America's fastest-growing lure brand partners with Evergreen International Co., Ltd. and Brett Hite to launch the most premium ChatterBait lure ever built in conjunction with the 2017 GEICO Bassmaster Classic

LADSON, S.C. — Z-Man Fishing Products, manufacturer of Original ChatterBait® brand bladed swim jigs and 10X Tough ElaZtech® soft plastics, is pleased to announce the release of its next game-changing bait—the new ChatterBait Jack Hammer custom bladed jig—on March 24th at the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo. A free, open-to-the-public event that showcases the latest and greatest in fishing and outdoor products, this year's Expo will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX.

As with its ChatterBait Freedom™ release at the 2016 Bassmaster Classic, the ChatterBait Jack Hammer reflects Z-Man's willingness to partner with another forward-thinking tackle company—in this case, leading Japanese lure maker Evergreen—to offer anglers more bladed jig options based on its patented, tournament-winning design. Built in Evergreen's factory, the Jack Hammer will be marketed and distributed exclusively by Z-Man in the United States.

The latest example of Z-Man's commitment to continually evolving, improving, and expanding a bait that's unmatched in its ability to deliver a crankbait action, jig profile, and spinnerbait flash, the ChatterBait Jack Hammer raises the bar on premium construction and detail, yet again. Built around a heavy duty black nickel Gamakatsu® flipping hook, the Jack Hammer's head shape—equipped with lifelike 3D eyes—facilitates a low center of gravity for balance and easy skipping. It also touts a super-strong, snag-resistant Decoy® Egg Snap line tie, and hard and thin, stainless steel hexagonal ChatterBlade®. Additionally, its dual-wire trailer keepers hold all types of soft plastic trailers more securely than ever before. To round things out, the Jack Hammer features hand-tied silicone skirts in patterns that have been personally designed and selected by ChatterBait pro and bladed swim jig guru Brett Hite, in addition to highly detailed, color-matched head and blade paint schemes.

"Two-and-a-half years ago, we set out to produce the best bladed jig the fishing industry had ever seen," Hite exclaims. "Simply put, I wanted a bait that would run better and feature superior components, and the Jack Hammer over-delivers on both fronts. It vibrates instantly, skips and swims unbelievably, and holds up to the rigors of tournament-level fishing better than any other bladed jig I've fished. I'm super excited to be working closely with Z-Man and Evergreen on this unbelievable bait, and am confident the Jack Hammer will help boost my tournament performance and earnings, as well as help anglers of all skill levels boat more fish."

"In addition to being perhaps the most proficient bladed jig fisherman on the planet, Brett is one of the most meticulous pros I've met when it comes to lure design," remarks Z-Man President, Daniel Nussbaum, in describing the company's newest world-class Pro Staff addition. "When combined with the attention to detail that goes into Evergreen's manufacturing process, the result is a bladed jig that is truly second to none in terms of quality, performance and construction. The ChatterBait Jack Hammer is an ultra-premium bait that all serious bass anglers will definitely need in their tackle boxes."

Seiya Muto, Senior Manager of Evergreen's Business Division, adds, "We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Z-Man on the ChatterBait Jack Hammer. Having been painstakingly developed, tested, and fine tuned over the last several years by Brett and Evergreen pro, Morizo Shimizu, both anglers have provided invaluable insights into the Jack Hammer with the goal of making it absolutely perfect—as well as a go-to bait for performing at the highest level in the sport's pinnacle tournaments. We're confident that the world's top anglers will rely on this bait in the coming years, and that anglers of all skill levels will be able to achieve similar success, as well."

Offered in 3/8- and 1/2-ounce weights, and 10 amazingly lifelike color patterns, the ChatterBait Jack Hammer will retail for $15.99.

I just bought one of the original Evergreen one's the other week. I can't wait to try it out. The chatterbait has been a go to spring time bait for me the last two years.

Do you see enough added value to justify the increase in cost?  I have no problem with it being $16 but I would want to know for sure it was worth it.

I haven't fished it yet, so I can't truly answer that.

You'll never know if you don't spend the dough...

fishing user avatarChris at Tech reply :

I like higher-end tackle as much as anyone around here but this seems a bit ridiculous.

I mean it's a friggin' jig with a piece of tin on the front, right?

Fixed that for you.

fishing user avatarriverbasser reply :

Lol fishballer.  I agree the price seems a bit high. I really don't see anything innovative. The chatter bait freedoms were something new but this isn't going to stand out IMO. We will see soon though

Yup ~   And judging by the number of companies offering them, there's a decent chance that the profit margin percentages may be very favorable.

They do look awfully nice.  If I didn't fish around so many d**n pike and pickeral, I might splurge.  I'll just wait till they go on clearance a couple years from now. lol

I'm sure Hite needs his $4 per unit commission for designing such a revolutionary lure.  Who ever would have guessed that a fishing lure should have a lead head, a rubber skirt, a hook and a blade?  What an out-of-the-box thinker!

I'm personally appalled that you neglected to mention the revolutionary & super-strong, snag-resistant line tie, and hard and thin, stainless steel hexagonal ChatterBlade.   Additionally, its dual-wire trailer keepers hold all types of soft plastic trailers more securely than ever before ! ! !

fishing user avatartander reply :

16$ a pop is high, can't wait to get a couple or three.

fishing user avatarYoTone reply :

I fish bladed jigs the most but at that price id have to pass. I cringed when i saw that price, thats ridiculous.

fishing user avatarfishwizzard reply :

What I want is a small, like 1/8oz, chatterbait that works well out of the box and will run at low speeds.  The Zman ones seem to be about 50/50 about running at anything below a fast burn.  When they work they are a really solid finesse lure for bass and for some reason stocker rainbows love them.  I have managed to get a few duds to work by bending the blade, but it is a pain and rarely works.

I am really starting to get into chatterbaits but I will fish a $4 Seibert one a lot more fearlessly then a $16 one.  I have come to accept that an LC Pointer has some mojo that the cheaper jerks I tried this winter don't seem to have, so I will buy one of them to see if there is anything special going on.

I have a few of the Freedoms and got a nice bass the first time I took it out.  They cast very well too, so well that I, while trying to land one right in front of a beaver lodge, over shot by like 10' and lost it in the wood.

It's the 3D real eye that really makes the bait.  Must be a friggin' diamond...

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

The Decoy egg snap is a nice touch but that price tag is a tad steep.  It's cheaper than buying an imported Evergreen Jack Hammer, but for that price you can get an original D&M Piranha's for less, or 2-3 other proven chatterbaits like Picasso and Rage Blade.

I was curious about the Evergreen design when I saw it a few weeks back because the blade was attached directly to the head which would violate Z-Man's patent, but now this pairing makes sense.

fishing user avatarBassThumb reply :

I can get four of the Siebert Outdoors Fogy bladed jigs for that price.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

They can keep it for that kind of money and I will continue to buy them from a friend that makes his own for a fraction of the price that catch the snot out of the fish.

fishing user avatarIndianaFinesse reply :

I'd be more likely to buy it than the 500 lures in-1 swimbait, but I don't plan on getting either.  The chatterbait freedom honestly looks better to me, for 1/3 the cost.

fishing user avatarrazor6570 reply :

Agree with most everyone else, $16 is too much!

I have been using Picasso chatterbaits for the past

year, they have performed flawless. They also are

far more durable than the zman.

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

@A-Jay i think this should be the first bait we break.  If yo want to send me a couple I'll video me putting them through all types of non fishing related situations and post it on youtube.

fishing user avatarMokujon reply :

For that price I'll stick with the Picasso shockblade

fishing user avatarRMax reply :

Definitely not going to get this because they still have the same skirt length, even though a longer skirt length and free swinging hook gives the chatterbait 5x the action.

fishing user avatarPaul Roberts reply :

Neat, but... I wonder if manufacturers are fishing to see how high they can go in price.

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

The funny thing is that I've ordered custom chatterbaits and bought fancy ones from manufacturers and the chatterbait I had the most confidence in is the Chatterfrog from Zman. I love it because the head is so heavy that I can cast it a long way and keep it down. I've caught lots of fish on it including my second biggest here.

Ha! This was exactly what I was saying to myself at the very moment I scrolled down and read your post. I will take 4 Fogys over that bait any day.

fishing user avatarPreytorien reply :

I can't really see any real differences in this and other bladed jig offerings. I would like to see them release a bladed jig with a bit of bend in the blade. I use *** bladed jigs with a bend and you can get some bone shaking thumps from them at slow speeds - works great in dirty water or night fishing. Sorry ZMan, love your stuff but I'll pass on this one at that price.

fishing user avatarLogan S reply :

I'm glad they are releasing it here....That way I don't need to find and order them from Japan.  Part of the price is the fact that ZMan isn't actually making them, Evergreen is.  They are being made in Japan by Evergreen, they just a cut a deal with ZMan to sell their bait in the US under the ZMan name to comply with the patent issue.  I don't think I'd pay $16 for a ZMan manufactured product, but I absolutely would pay it for an Evergreen manufactured product :).

I don't mind paying more for a 'premium' product.  And there does seem to be some differences between this and other products....Head shape is a little different, blade looks a little bigger (or body is smaller - same effect either way though), different snap, and best of all the double barb wire keeper.  I'd buy it for the keeper alone ;).

fishing user avatarYoTone reply :

is the direct connection to the blade and jig that important?

what will it do that an extra split ring wont?

This is where I'm at on this as well.  btw - if you haven't already, might want to check out the O.P.S. Blade Jig - also a product of Japan and sort of in the same (slightly less) price range.    Available in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, & even 5/8's .

We live in the land of 10,000 pike here in Minnesota.  Don't know if he would mail you any but if you contact Bob at Wayzata Bait (952-473-2227) and ask him for the small leaders he custom makes to prevent pike bite-offs.  Small enough to not be very visible or affect the lure action, but just big enough to keep 90% of the pike from biting you off.  They work ~

I appreciate the info.  Those suckers can be a pain.  The 17 - 20lb Fluoro I use does a decent job preventing bite-offs but it's definitely not fail-safe.

***Update ***

Since my original post - The Z-Man Evergreen Chatterbait Jack Hammer has been my number 1 producing vibrating jig.

Has accounted for several respectable Brown Bass - especially early & later in the season.

Love this bait.

fishing user avatarBrett's_daddy reply :

I know the guys at Tactical Bassin' love this bait too. According to Matt Allen it is crucial that the chatterbait start thumping right away upon contact with the water...if it doesn't and has any hesitation before startup it'll alert the fish and they may not bite it. That's what he likes so much about the Jackhammer (besides the quality components), it has the quickest startup of any chatterbait out there. He also recommends the Z-Man Chatterbait Custom (available exclusively at TW) as a cheaper alternative that's still made from quality components and is in the same ballpark as the Jackhammer performance-wise.
