Mend-it Reivew 2025

fishing user avatarClark Stewart reply :

Hey folks,

Got my 1oz bottle of mend-it this afternoon. Cost 14.00 all told. I have to say this is great stuff! I've attached some pics of some rage tail shads that had fallen in battle. The one pictured is nearly beyond repair, and I'll honestly say that this was not a perfect fix but it is probably still fishable at least one more time. It was torn nearly in half and the tail was ripped. Had I not had a bottle of mend-it coming I would have had to toss her. The last 2 pics are of another shad that had a hole nearly all the way through but was "mended" to near perfect quality again. I am unable to rip it apart with my fingers after the fix.

One caveat: They mention in the FAQ on their site that if you have a huge tear (kinda like mine here) that putting mend-it in it could make it split more. That's exactly what happened to mine. When it's that bad you need to be very careful how much you're bending it when you drop the mend-it in because this stuff DOES RE-MELT THE PLASTIC! Best advice is to flip the lure upside down and shove the applicator in from below and flip it back over to let it drip in the tear. Hope these help. This has already saved me at least a dollar. Maybe 2 if you think the first shad is fishable!

I've posted these to photobucket to save space and headaches for the mods!

Sorry for some of the crappy pics - cell phone camera.

Yep, great stuff indeed. Like I said in one of my other posts about it you will get better at using it after practice. It is a little wierd at first especially considering it can make a bait fall apart if your not careful. My best reccomendation is to repair baits before they get too bad. You will find you can fix a lot of them multiple times.

Good luck.I think you'll find it can save you a ton of dough, literally.

fishing user avatarCWB reply :

Sorry about the $14.00. I got mine on ebay for $10.25 with free shipping. have you used the baits since fixing? Anxious to see how it holds up. I have about 20 Shads waiting to be repaired.

Let us know how they hold up after fixing. Tip-

Don't let them get that bad before attempting to fix them. I did that because I only had 2 left and had already torn up about 15.

fishing user avatartnbassfisher reply :

That looks like good stuff. However, I thought that the soldering iron with the Senko worked well the other day that someone posted.

fishing user avatarNewAngler reply :

But I have yet to see a shorline that I've fished with an AC oulet. I'll take one bottle of mend it

I use a lighter and my tubes and senkos get fished and fished again. If the plastic is in very bad shape, I heat up the eye end of a hook and use it to melt the plastic. It works good.

Plug it into a tree  :P

I might have to pick me up some mend it.  Space monkeys and rage shads could use a bit of repair.

Interesting. You made me check Walgreens on line and they have something called Mighty Mendit that may be the same thing; can anyone confirm?

That is not the same product I don't believe. It looks like it is only used for repairing tears in fabric. However, it could work.

Not the same stuff....That mighty mendit is super glue basically. It'll turn your baits hard.

Mend it these guys are talking about is a soft plastic glue that actually stays soft...made specifically for soft baits.  ;D

Don't need an AC outlet. You can get a small pencil soldering iron powered by AA batteries at Radio Shack. As stated before use in a well ventilated area. Preferably with a fan blowing directly on you.

fishing user avatarKenny418 reply :

Ok so I went to walgreens and bought this to test it out. I still can not glue my senko back together. So far I have wasted $9.99 and one senko. I think my tourney partner was full of sh**.  ;D

Don't know if you've done any searches here on the forums for "mendit", cause if you had, you would have known that you won't find "mendit" at walgreens. Look closely at the package or bottle. Betcha it says "Mighty Mendit" a whole different product.

fishing user avatarMatt Fly reply :

You still can't beat a bic or an electric butane pocket lighter.

NO AC outlet and no bottle messes in the boat.

Use the soldering iron for fusing larger worms and appendages on creating new designs at home.

The fish have been tearing up my Rage Shads, mostly where the tail makes the "U" shaped bend. Don't think the lighter would fix this type of "injury". I have a bottle on order and will post an objective review when it finally gets here.

I know they are different products. I was fishing a tourney and my partner suggested the "Mighty Mendit" as an alternative. He claimed it was just as good and was cheaper. So I decided to give it a try. My recommendation to everyone else is not to try it. Save your $9.99 and buy the real stuff. I am still mad I cut a senko in half to try it. >:P

You can also get butane powered soldering irons as well.  Lots of no cord options available in the event you don't have a tree nearby to plug in to.

If your fishing Rage baits you will soon find that a bottle of Mend-it is your new best friend.  I have repaired my fair share of Rage Shads and some of them several times.  The key is to not let them get too torn up.

Check out the price on Mend-it at this place.  I am sure you will like it.

Something looks funny to me about it.

Yep, I have bought quite a bit of tackle from them both on-line and via the phone.  It is legit.  No problems ever with them.  It just happens to be run by a bunch of gals and they do know their gear.

They usually ship via USPS Priority Mail and usually the same day you order if it is not too late.

I'm on my second bottle.

This stuff is gold.

I haven't had to buy replacement baits all summer so far.  The senkos don't have ridges in the middle anymore, but they still work.  I've saved a ton of dough on not having to buy new bags of Senkos, Sweet Beavers, Rage Tail Shads, and KVD Brush hogs.

The only thing I wonder is if this stuff is just straight acetone, and if I could be saving more $$$ by just getting some nail polish remover. It smells the same.... Will have to raid my wife's nightstand to see if acetone works...

It works perfect for this - in my slideshow you can see the repaired shad tail. I've already fixed 2 more tails with mendit.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

Mend it rocks!!! Yes it will split a bait apart that's torn, but if you apply mend it to each end and line it up right, it will glue right back together. It saves me probably 100 bucks in extra plastics every year.

fishing user avatargrimlin reply :

I hate the stuff. There's no benefit purposes for me to even use it....It drys up by the time I even use it.

I lose my soft plastic baits before I can even fix them....There's no point in me even investing in the stuff.

fishing user avatarwebertime reply :

The old style "visine" bottle will allow it to dry out. Those are the ones I see at Dick's in the clearance section for $2. The nailpolish style bottles work very well. Makes Rage baits (and Hudds) far cheaper over the long haul.

Fun to make frankenbaits too! My Rage Ika's are killer!
