Siebert Swim Jigs 2025

Just got a couple Black and Blue Seibert Swim Jigs and I'm very excited to try them because they look great! All I did to modify them was trim the weed guard to the barb, I should be able to try them out Saturday and Sunday and ill post my thoughts in this thread. In the meantime, Who else uses the Siebert Swim Jig and what are your thoughts on them?

I've used them this year in the Spring... then lost them this year in the Spring. Didn't get to use them long enough to catch anything, but they are nice. I'm gonna be making a giant order this month or next month for next season, and getting me a little of everything he's got.

Just a note about this practice... This actually makes the brush (I'm on a mission to change the term, lol) guard stiffer, and can reduce hookups. Of course, if you are fishing wood, this can help. Be aware that you may have to swing a little harder, depending on your hook set. If you want to make the brush guard softer, remove some fibers at the base, close to the head.

top quality stuff from siebert. i have a couple in bluegill and shad patterns.

Hmmm, I've always thought it made hookups easier... Guess I need to rethink that. I don't fish a lot of brush, mainly grass. What if I fanned out the weedguard a little? Would that make it easier for hook sets while staying pretty weedless?

I don't trim length too often. I will thin them, or remove altogether as needed. The only time I fan them is in rocks, and I make a "V". I'm pretty sure Mike builds them with a length in mind, and you probably don't need to do a thing to them.

I figured he made the guard longer so if people prefer a shorter guard they can trim it and if they want it longer they can leave it alone... Thanks for the bit of info.

i asked mike this very question and he says he never trims, just fishes them straight as he makes them

I also think a longer brush guard helps keep the hook pinned, but that's highly debatable.

A longer guard is more flimsey vs a shorter guard same concept as when yyou would snap twigs as a kid that long twig would snap like a tooth pick and those short ones would leave you in frustration.

Well I'll take that into consideration next time I buy some jigs guys, but I'm sure I didn't make them unfishable (I hope) lol guess I'll just need to set the hook a little harder.

You defiantly did not make them unfishable. You can still cut some strands at the base if you feel you might be missing fish because of the guard. Also fanning the guard out left to right like you asked about defiantly helps. Have fun and tight lines.

Lol all the jigs I fish, which is mostly strike king stuff, have the guard end right at the barb. So I figured I'd cut these down too...

Its really not a big deal I used to cut a lot of my guards down the same way you did. Jig fishing/swim jigs like anything require confidence and if that's what gives you yours then so be it and laugh at us naysayers

I trim the weedguards on the 1/4 oz jigs sometimes. However, I also take 4-5 strands out with a pair of small scissors. That way, I can have a shorter weedguard without it being too stiff.
I leave the weedguards stock on the 5/16 oz and heavier. I have not yet tried trimming straight across the weedguard so it's longer in the back and shorter in the front like I see some people do. I'm not sure what the benefit is.
I also like trimming the skirts to a finger-width below the hook bend. That way I get more flare out of the skirt and less interference with the action of chunk-style craw trailers.

I stopped cutting guards as it always seemed to make them foul more often. Now I just remove all guards as well... There a joke and work terribly.

+1 ... Try "fanning out" the individual bristles of the brush guard instead - I think you will like it !

The Siebert Swim Jig has been very effective for me this year.
I prefer no weed guard.

I might try cutting off the weed guard completely on one of my swim jigs but I cant see it coming through the grass and stuff I fish... seems like it would get clogged up and caught in grass every cast...

It will, so don't bother. Like others have said, I don't cut mine down anymore. I used too but I only found that the stiffness cutting created, it pulled in more weeds with it. I just fan them our really good and that seems to work best for me.

Well when I fish them if they are pulling in weeds or I'm not hooking up well I might just pull some fibers out or fan the guard to compensate for the extra stiffness... I'll let yall know what happens

I made an order from Siebert because of the recommendations from all u guys. Included in my order is two swim jigs, one bloody white and one silver white. I think they will be killer swimming in the river early spring. I plan on using white grub and white swimbait trailers with them. I also ordered two football head jigs and a random jig pack from Siebert. Im not a jig master but by the end of next year i will be proficient with the jig. Its my belief that white patterns are the best for swimming a jig because it imitates shad and minnows.

Of course it will grab everything with no guard if your running into it. I use a different type of guard to make lures weedless.

I need to place another order from Seibert as I also purchased a decent amount of Jigs a few months ago and they keep vanishing from my box and I am not losing many in the water, they seem to stay on my friend's rods and not come back but I have used a few of the swim jigs in Sunfish and shad patterns and I never touched a weedguard on any of the Siebert jigs, I did fan a few of the brush jigs just because I like to do that, and they come through everything I throw them at as good or better than any other jigs I have used.
I used to cut my weedguards off of some jigs or cut them short but it seems to mess up the balance of the jig so now I leave em alone...I plan on making another order soon and plan on buying alot of the jigheads he sells without the skirts as I love the design and detail of the swim jig heads, they look awesome with any swimbait on the back. The jigs from Siebert are done right imo, and the guards are good for the heavy weeds where I fish. Get the Wire on the skirts, they hold up really well and it is not expensive to add the wire
Jigs without weedguards can still be good if you fish the high in the water and sometimes they are surprisingly weedless if the weeds are not super thick.

I got a whole bag of ones he cleaned off his bench that had flaws. His flawed jigs look better then some I've bought from BPS and Gander Moutain. I thought about triming some of the weed (brush) guard, but after reading this think I'm going to leave them as is.

I, too, got a "clearing off the bench" variety pack from Mike. I got my first Largemouth on one of his jigs. Great craftsmanship & quality.

I fished em this weekend and got skunked both days... Very hard fishing sat and sun, found some schooling bass Saturday and got a strike or two from small ones but didn't hook up.
Caught a couple big pickerel and surprisingly they didn't cut a single piece of the rubber skirt off!
