Which lures would you pick? 2025

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

My wife ask me what fishing lures I would like to have for Christmas. I have been looking at the following Berkley lures. The Berkley Digger, The Berkley Dredger, the Berkley Warpig and the Berkley Wild Thang. What would be your two picks of the four lures. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

fishing user avatarFishinBuck07 reply :

I like the digger and the wild thang!  Haven't fished them a lot but those are the ones I like the best so far.  All of them seem to be good baits

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

The only one I have used is the Dredger .I have had good luck with every size except the 8.5 .

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

FishinBuck07,

Thank you for that information.

Scaleface,

Thank you for helping me.

fishing user avatarNorthernBasser reply :

If you're in the market for a lipless, get a Warpig. Very nice baits.

Big fan of Vintage Craw and Spring Craw (1/2 oz).

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

Thank you NorthernBasser,

I believe Santa Claus may have to add some more help in his work shop. Might even have too recruit another reindeer  or two to get my order to Homer City.

Do you own stock in Berkley? I would pick 4 Dredgers.

Tom

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

Tom,

No, I do not own any stock in Berkley. I just like their lures. At the present, I do not own any of the four lures that I mentioned.

fishing user avatarbassh8er reply :

I’d ask for a gift card; then you can get what you want and pick the color too.

I wouldn’t dare try and guess what my wife would want for the things she likes to buy.

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

bassh8er,

The only card that I'm going to ask for is her credit card. When she gives to me, I will call and place my order.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

The Wild Thang is a very nice bait. The War Pig has been my most successful of the other 3 listed but a lot of that decision should be based off the water you're going to be fishing.

If I ever hear my wife ask that, I'm going to get my ears checked.

fishing user avatarprimetime reply :

I believe they will all catch fish if used at the right time and place. The Berkley line of lures seems to be a good value, just like all the products they make. They have been doing it right from Rods, line, soft baits and hard baits are all good looking baits. I have a wild thing which I like, Its the one that looks similar to the Rapala DT THug which is a crank I always liked. Really aggressive action, may be the Pitbull, not exactly sure but I always carry the 2 I have.

fishing user avatarFishinBuck07 reply :

I will be grabbing some of the new Frittside cranks here in the new year for sure.  Look like they could be a good choice for the cold water in early spring!

Give her some general suggestions and let her surprise you from there. You'll enjoy them even more :)

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

It depends how you want to use the lures . The Drdegers go "deep"  get there fast and stay there long . The deepest I ever caught bass on a diving crankbait was at 22 foot with  the 25.5 . Pick the lure that runs deeper than the depth being fished . The 17.5 hits that  productive summertime 12 to 15 foot mark hard while using 12 lb Big Game and a long cast .

fishing user avatarTizi reply :

I have all 4 of those lures.  The warpig is a really good lipless.  I have been using it in 1/4 ounce size.  I also have the Wildthang, Digger and Dredger.  I have had some good success with the Digger, grinding rocks.  The 8.5 or 10.5 are the sizes I have been using (craw colors).  The Wildthang in 8.5 has caught a few fish for me as well (all of these I have needed to be tuned).  I like them in craw colors.  I have a few Dredgers, the 14.5 is the one I use the most.  Only caught one on that lure so far.

Berkley makes a good crankbait at a reasonable price in my opinion.

fishing user avatarJaderose reply :

I have thrown...and lost.....every single War Pig I ever bought.  No clue why.  I enjoyed using them and caught fish on them before they all said goodbye.  It's actually pretty amazing.  I've snagged everyone I've had (maybe 5?) and never managed to unsnag one.  That is NOT an indictment of the lure.  Just of me throwing them into areas I shouldn't have been throwing them, I guess.

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

Bluebasser86,

Definitely going to some War Pigs and some Wild Thangs.

Kicker,

I hope you have to get your ears checked.

primetime,

Maybe I can get a couple of Pitbulls too.

FishinBuck07,

I will keep those Frittside in mind.

haggard,

I believe its best if I just call and place the order.

scaleface,

Thank you for those tips.

Tizi,

Thank you for the information regarding the size of lures. As I said earlier, the Warpig lures will be ordered.

Jaderose,

That's some very helpful information. When fishing the Warpig do you jig it or straight retrieve.

fishing user avatarTriStateBassin106 reply :

I'm currently restocking my terminal tackle. I have a Tacklewarehouse order coming in the mail for Christmas but I can't see it or open it because my significant other will not be happy.

If I had to pick out lures I'm definitely getting some finesse jigs and stocking up on Cranks and Jerkbaits for the spring which will be here before you know it.

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

Jaderose,

Thank you for that information regarding your misfortunes using the Warpig lure. Question, when fishing the Warpig do you prefer a straight retrieve or do you throw it out and let it sink to the bottom and the yo yo it back in?

TriStateBassin106,

Thank you for your response.

TW makes it easy, you build a wishlist,  share it, the person places the order.  Everyone wins,  you get want they want,  they get to get it for you

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

r3825,

My tackle dealer is another site. I purchase everything from them.

Her card. So no budget????. Just call TW and tell them to send you one of everything. ????

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

GreenPig,

I will be calling Monday to place an order. I will try to let you know what lures I ordered.

fishing user avatarShimano_1 reply :

Dredger and warpig. I have no experience with the rest tho but I really like the dredger for its smaller profile but still heavy enough to cast easily and tight wobble

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

Shimano_1,

Thank you, for that information. I will probably get those two for sure.

fishing user avatarJim Sutter reply :

Today, I ordered a few of each style of the following Berkley lures.

1. Berkley Digger crank bait.

2. Berkley Dredger crank bait

3. Berkley Warpig

4. Berkley Wild Thang crank bait
