You must have a terribly slow connection.

If a thread title says 'MUST READ' or 'PLEASE READ', it is usually best to ignore it.   :-X

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

Take it easy on him guys. There is a learning curve to this forum thing.  :)

That included typing with itchy, watery eyes.

You're right.

I voted plastic worms.  Because it has so many uses besides just fishing.

fishing user avatarrondef reply :

This is dependent on the conditions and the time of day.  I throw different baits for different conditions and times of day.

fishing user avatarTournyFish001 reply :

I chose plastic worm.  Live bait is cheating in the "sport" of bass fishing- skill is not as much of a factor and you have a greater chance of hurting a trophy fish that has swollowed your bait hook.

fishing user avatarSouth FLA reply :

Plastic worm is very versatile and can be fished on top, bottom, and mid levels so it is the BEST OVERALL, but that being said at specific times other lures or even live bait will work better.

I have seen lures out catch live bait 5 to 1 and visa versa.

fishing user avatarTin reply :

Jigs only have 2 votes?

Wow, you guys need to learn the power of the jig. :)

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

I answered "live bait". It's the only presentation that does the fishing and you do the catching. You can even take a nap after the cast and let the bait to the work. I don't use live bait as I prefer to do the fishing and the catching.

I love jig fishing, but more bass have been caught on plastic worms than all other baits on this list combined.

fishing user avatarCJ reply :

It won't let me vote the way I want to. I vote for jigs, plastic worms. spinnerbaits, and crankbaits.

I would say a jig but sometimes something else works better.

fishing user avatarJake P reply :

Plastics got my vote however, they all have there time and place so don't forget about the others when fishing.

fishing user avatarBrian_Reeves reply :

I voted plastic worm too.  I can put it on a carolina rig, drop shot, weightless, jig, texas rig, flordia rig, and I can chase my kids around the house with them.  It's just too dangerous to do that with a crankbait.

fishing user avatarDavis reply :

Voted plastics.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

I voted plastic worm but it should be plastics of all varieties  :)

According to all the research data I've compiled over the last 30 years from tournament records and state big bass records here's the list.

#1 Plastics

#2 Jig-N-Trailers

#3 Crank Baits

#4 Spinner Baits

#5 Live Baits

#6 Spoons

fishing user avatarbasser89 reply :

I went with other. For year round conditions, a tube bait works for me 12 months out of the year for smallies and largemouths. When water gets above 50 degrees, I have to have a spinnerbait tied on!

fishing user avatarfishfordollars reply :

I must admit I too voted for the plastic worm.

fishing user avatarguitarkid reply :

I think it is pretty obvious.

fishing user avatarba7ss3in reply :

Maybe I'm missing something here but it's got to be live bait. It's banned in tournaments. That's why plastic baits catch more.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Live bait doesn't guarantee you'll catch bass; nothing does

Trolling it outlawed in tournaments as well but trolling does not guarantee anything either

Most anglers do not understand how to effectively use either   :)

Hahahahah those treble hooks are very dangerous...

You are right but I believe if live bait was allowed in tournaments more people would use them. I would like to see stats over the years if it was allowed. Even on this forum, when people say they used live bait to catch a big fish some people say that's cheating.

Most of us that use live bait don't care.

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

It's probably live bait, but I put plastic worm because the sport is to use artificial lures...

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Many people have the erroneous idea that live bait produce every time you use them but many times live bait is the wrong choice. I have been Wild Shiner fishing in Florida and gotten skunked only to switch to artificial baits and catch.
