Lures for Bass That Have Seen EVERYTHING 2024

There is this neighborhood pond in the neighborhood next to me that has a lot of good size bass 3-5 lbers (it also has a couple 30lb blue catfish in their but thats another story otherwise their dumb as heck). The neighborhood its in is pretty rich (everyone pretty much 100,000 or more) so people have a lot of time and the bass have seen everything i don't fall for anything.

Let me know if you have anything that you go to in these circumstances.

Two approaches:

1) Reaction baits. MAKE them bite.

2) Live bait.

Grab your UL, some 4lb test, and a package of baby brush hogs. Fish them weightless and remember to watch the line close.

If that don't work try going at night or just try and catch the catfish.

I was going to say that. I remembered reading that somewhere, and from personal experience, I

caught a bass the other night on a senko that still had the bruising from being caught the night before.

It seems like I'm the only one at our neighborhood pond throwing a POP-R and I kill them in the evenings. Especially around dark. I'm even using the big daddy not cheating on the fish. I produce some very nice fish off of this and the pond is fished heavily.

Plastic Worm (Texas rigged) It's a long, thin shape resembles the profile of a wide variety of forage in the world of the bass, including earthworms, snakes, eels, and baitfish. Its action is almost entirely dependent on the contours of the bottom; and the rod movements of the fisherman, making it very random. It moves with little noise; the noise that it does make comes mostly from the random clicking of the sinker as it hits bottom. Bright colors and larger size can be used to increase its attracting qualities. Because of its basic resemblance to a wide array of living forage, this lure presents very few negative cues, and is hard for big bass to learn not to hit.

Here is the official answer:

Studies have proven that the plastic worm is the only lure made that a BASS CANNOT REMEMBER!

That is, a bass will continue to strike a worm even after repeated catches, whereas a bass will "turn off" to other lures, spinner baits and crank baits etc. after wearing them out on them. That's why you cannot continue to catch them on your honey hole with the same lure over and over. Bass will stop eating that which will eradicate them. Not true with the plastic worm, however. Although we all know bass will prefer a different bait at different times (i.e. "the pattern") you can always go back to the worm to catch them.

I think the way you fish a bait (action) and size of the bait is more inportant than the shape and color. Besides, I have seen a bass just released hit the exact same bait that almost killed him 5 minutes ago. I dont think bass are that smart, if something looks alive, they will give it a good eyeballing. If it apeals to them, they will try to eat it. I think that is bass fishing in a nutshell. It doesnt matter if they have been caught on it before, they are very slow learners.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the advice on all this topic. I've tried the senkos and they didn't work.

But i did find something that did work:HOT DOGS. I was fishing with some hot dogs going after some perch and bluegill. Then a couple bass started coming and looking at it. The bass then left and went to the side of the bank. So i tossed my hot dog out on the side of the bank and the bass came and started looking at it. I let it sink to the bottom and started twitching it. As i was reeling it in and twitching it while it was still on the ground the bass kept following it. Then with it 10 yards away from be the bass blew up on the hot dog. I then proceeded to reel it in. It was about a 3 pounder. I then caught 2 more bass using the same technique. One was about the same size and the other was about 1.5 pounds.

But to everyone contributing thanx for the advice.

I can't tell you how many times i've got a dumb look from a fisherman when I asked him if he ever used a Fat Ika. I bet the Bass in your pond have not seen them. I fish retention ponds with the Fat Ika and can't keep the bass off my line.

They probably haven't seen a good old fashioned Sluggo in a while. Try a 4.5 incher.

Another bait that I love, that was hot for a while in the 90s was the lunker city Helgies, a hellgramite styled bait that is great for ponds.

I would also try really 'burning' some baits like a senko/tiki stick or a worm that are normally fished slow. Some of my best bass come from twitching the heck out of a wacky rigged pearl tiki stick, reeling rather quickly, or really swimming a tequila sunrise power worm just under the surface.

I would also start using a buzz bait about an hour before dark and cover the water like crazy with it. Don't give up on the buzz bait.

I fish my GF's pond in her neighborhood, it's probably a 1 acre pond, the fish are pretty small, 1-3lbs and they're fished pretty hard, senko's/*** baits of that nature are usually hit or miss, as well as spinners and buzzbaits. Recently I was looking through my tackle and noticed some Neon (chartreuse) Fat ikas I had bought a while back but had never caught anything on, so I figured what the heck.

Wow...I don't think i've caught that many fish before, I also know that's it's the color that triggered them because i've fished fat ikas there before, blue/black flakes, watermelon/red, pumpkin etc, but the neon is what killed them for me.

So maybe try some crazy color?
