So it seems everywhere you go every store including Wal Mart is selling Trokar hooks.
I heard and read all the bad things on them but have they improved? They worth the hefty price tag?
Like to hear some information from people who have fished them recently.
Thanks in advance...
At 9.99 I wasn't buying but at 6.99 I have a bunch! I saw all the stories of the points folding over and trth be told, I have had the same thing happen on a regular basis to Gamakatsu and Owner hooks since they came to market and so far having used them for 2 seasons I haven't had the problem like others have, I had 1 hook point fold over after I set on a tree limb last fall, that is it. I also like the Owner 5304 deep throat jig hook but it seems there are a ton of reports on that model breaking but for me, I have had no problem and yes, the Trokar hooks are about as sharp as you can get, these are what I use for really thick and hard plastics like toads and beaver style creature baits, much better hook up ratio.
Best hook no questions, a little pricey but in the long run awesome hooks!
Been using Gammys for a lot of years, with no particular issue of concern that would entice me to switch.
If you go to their website, you can get a free pack of them after a moderate length survey. Takes a bit to receive them, but hey, free hooks with a high MSRP.
Cost too much for this old timer.
Got some for free, from the survey, and I like 'em. Especially FOR FREE! Not sure if I would buy any though with less expensive options available.

Yep...
Mike
I've been using 5/0 EWG Trokars for 2 seasons now (same hooks) and they are awesome! The hook sets are so solid and trying to remove the hook is a pain if that tells you anything.
I've used the gammys and bass pro brand and they are good hooks too but I have so much confidence that I'm not gonna lose the fish when I use the trokars.
The trokar hooks are $6.99 on *** and the gammys are $4.49. Honestly for those that say they are too expensive, you're talking about $2.50 difference. It's not like they cost $15 bucks or something.
Best hooks in my opinion.
I really like the ones i got from the survey so i bought some more. I have replaced my gammys with owners and trokars and havent looked back
I have fished them and had no problems and they are a good hook. But my VMC hooks will give them a run for there money! Pun intended!
i love Trokars. I still use gammys and such, but Trokars are my favorite. I love there tube hook and swimbait hook. The only negative I have is the hook point doesn't seem to stay in the plastic as well as others while rigging weedless. It seems to want to pop out a little more than most.
I use them for a lot of different applications, I can tell you from my experience that I get quite a few more through the roof and through the gill plate hooksets than I ever had before.
Prove it to yourself, do the survey and get a free pack.
They dont have the survey up right now.

X2 i just looked and its not up
It's been a while since I done it, but I believe that you have to select "Join the Trokar Team" then select "Take the Quiz". See if that gets you anywhere.

I did that and it just gave me a 20% discount code. I am going to pick some up and see how they work.
I am a die hard Owner #5304 hook user. I also have tried the Trokar hooks. Yes they are a little pricey, but they are sharp and I have had no issuse with them.
I have not used trokar hooks, but I have heard a number of mixed opinions including some people saying that they have lost more fish because the cutting point tears a hole in the fish's mouth v.s. punching a hole like a gamakatsu or owner hook. Has anyone experienced this?
I like some Trokar hooks, but hate others. The Finesse worm and HD worm 4/0 down are what I primarily use. The flipping hook above 3/0 I won't use, same goes for any of the swimbait or mag swimbait. The reason I won't use them is that they punch too large a hole. I've lost a number of fish because of it. A simple test punching those hooks through paper will show you how large a hole they cut. It's so large that the barb does not catch, and as a result I've had many hooks back out. I've fished Moaner Swimbait hooks side by side with the Trokar, same rod same setup, same everything. Lost 17 fish in one day on the Trokar and caught every one hooked on the Moaner.
The finesse worm and HD worm- never lost a fish. I use the finesse worm for almost all of my light T-rigs and even for light flipping in the larger sizes.
I use trokar, gamakatsu, and moaner hooks. I use the trokar tube, flipping and off set worm hooks. They are super hooks and I have had no problems with them at all. I still use gamakatsu hooks, but I think the trokar are a superior hook.
The Trokar flipping hook was the only hook I used. But I won't be buying anymore, after flipping all spring with the new VMC flipping hooks, which are $3.99, and being totally impressed with them, they will be my flipping hook from now on.
I'm kinda in the middle of the road atm..I've used Grammys for years and never had any problems whatsoever..but I tried trokar about a year ago and wow by far best hook I've ever used..the major diff is when U hook the fish they hookup alot better..but the downside for me is that when resetting my hook on the plastics seems it tear them up twice as fast..seems like i go through alot more plastic..I use both and both are fine..only reason I'm using trokar a cause I got alot of them free..but if I were a tournament fisherman I'd use trokar in tourneys..
My hook-ups and holding % has been outstanding with Trokar hooks. As well as the same findings of others with the penetration with less effort and how far it pentrates. I use lighter powered set-ups mostly from the normal preferences so the sharpness of these hooks are quite apparent.
The one time my point did roll was due to a hang-up on a rock and trying to free it otherwise the point has been staying for quite a time and catches.
WW2farmer,found it! like I posted before, the VMC hooks are sticky sharp and much better on the wallet! I fish the VMC on just about all my rigs!

If you tell me Gammys and Owners punch a hole and Trokars tear a hole then I'm going to tell you that you bought knock off hooks because every hook with a cutting point will open a hole if you get the hook in the soft part of the mouth. I used Mustad spinnerbait hooks because the Gamakatsu and Owners did exactly that, and that is tear a hole and so based on that I won't use the Trokar spinnerbait hooks and it is also a reason I don't use cutting point hooks, regardless of brand on shaky heads or and finesse plastics or jigs, only on heavy jigs or thick plastics. Mustad and VMC and the new Eagle Claw hooks are what you want as they have needle points designed to penetrate, not cut, VMC calls theirs, "cone cut" , Mustad is the "Ultra point" and the new Eagle Claw is the "Needle point" , any hook described like that is what you want to use for finesse tactics as a cutting point is overkill on fine wire hooks.
CPBassfishing,
Yes I have experienced the Trokar point cutting a large hole also. I also have noticed they cut the crap out of soft plastics, greatly reducing the life of the bait. I gave them a real good chance, then gave all mine away to a competitor of mine at a tournament. Some folks really like them. Some folks don't.
Great hook but very expensive. If you are the competitive tournament angler I would suggest buying these hooks. But if you are on a budget, lazersharp, owner, and gamakatsu work great.
I love the ones I've tried, but have a hard time with the price, especially when I know I can stock up at Wal-Mart on clearance Gammys at the end of the season....
The only one I buy with regularity is the flipping 5/0 and 6/0 sized hooks, I love these. I grabbed some VMC flipping hooks the other day to see how they measure up. The VMCs look identical, and are $3 less than the $7 Trokars. I haven't used them yet, but if they are comparable it would be a no brainer to buy the much cheaper brand...

Agreed.
I personally love the light wire finesse worm hook, great hook up percentage and can handle big fish if you don't horse them. I tried the flippin hooks in 4/0 and lost a lot of fish on them.
I bought a lot when they were Buy One Get One Free and love them. I do not miss or lose fish on Trokar. Love them.
