looking for some reasonably priced swimbait recommendations. 1 to 2 ounces preferrably so nothing huge. a lot of lakes around here are pretty clear clarity wise, and i am intrigued at finding new way's to find that bigger bite. thanks!
I really like the 6th Sense Speed Glide 100 and IMA Fluke Glide Bait 125 and just got the S-Waver 120. S-Waver 168 is fantastic too. These are the 3 baits I used the most and have had the most success.

i've checked a few of those out. right now i have my eyes on the jackall ganteral jr. and megabass vitalion ito for starters
I have considered the Ganteral, especially when on sale, like now.

haha my exact thoughts
Be warned...there is no dabbling. Get a few huds, some s wavers and gantarels...the next thing you know you are looking at 200 dollar custom swimbaits.

The Gantarel Jr. is a great swimbait. I've had a lot of luck running it along wood and stumps.

Call them and add the RT Spawn Gill.
In the 2 oz range, 6" hud weedless is a good choice, at about 2.6 oz. the hud 68 works great. For open water you get the top exposed hook, for cover I like the weedless version.

would you get that over the scale gill?

I don't have any of those, I've only thrown the RT Bluegill, RT Ghost Gill, and the RT Spawn Gill. The Bluegill and Spawn Gill are my best producers.
For those dabbling into swimbaits, Savage Gear's 3D Real Trout get bit on the cheap.
Only, there is no dabble into swimbaits, only complete and utter disregard for one's credit card, bank balance, and common sense.

This is why, after I looked into swimbaits and my budget, I decided to pass...I have enough problems keeping my spending down.
The smaller size Shine Glide is solid, as is their Pulse tail trout and I'm sure their other new pulse tail offerings will be as well. FishLab Bio Gill wake baits were great for me last year and the jointed and glides produced as well.
As for price the SPRO rat and the 6 and 8 inch trout have amazing actions and awesome sink/float options. I even use the bigger rat and trout for muskies around here.
I really like the swaver 168. Fairly inexpensive also. if your looking for some cheaper swimbaits I would try the storm kickin minnow it has an awesome action.
The last thing you want to do is dabble into swimbaits unless you like to collect lures.
Looking at TW today they have a complete lure section on swimbaits from hard to soft, sinking floating, single and multiple jointed with dozens of choices in each category.
It's impossible to define what a swimbait is anymore with 3" to 16" models.
My suggestion is to start at the beginning and select proven lures with a track record of catching bass in lieu of bass anglers.
The originals are; Huddleston Deluxe, 3:16, 22nd Century, Spro, Matt Lures, Mike Shaw and Basstrix. R2Sea S-wavers are well estblished and the premium Japanese Deps lures.
Weedless bluegill Huddleston Gill and Matt lures. Weedless Trout swimbaits is Huddleston soft swim baits, Basstrix hollow body and 3:16 Mission fish. Single jointe glides R2Sea S-Wavers, Deps Slide, multi jointed trout 22nd Century Triple Trout, Spro BBZ trout, Matt lures hard Gill. Wakes MS Slammer.

yeah i feel like i'll be digging myself into a hole, but hey, fishing is my hobby and i'm willing to drop some bucks on things i like/want. i went ahead and purchased a couple of the jackall gantarel jr.'s to start (great reviews and on sale at TW).

And then there is build your own.
Technically a Gantarel is a wake bait, the JR about 1 1/2 oz and may get you into dabbling with swimbait rods and reels, the holes only gets bigger.

This is the reason I have avoided it for years but after fishing a swimbait setup for the first time this summer and catching a couple of nice fish, I broke down and decided to give it a try. Now the hunt for baits begins.
You could start with an MS Slammer (7 or 9 inch), a Hudd (68 or 8 inch), and a Deps Slide Swimmer (175 or 250) and be in the game, cover the water column, and get a feel for it. You should be able to grab those for $150 total or so (which isnt nothing) and will have baits to have comfidence in.
OP, hope you don't mind that I ask this here...But any opinions on the Gancraft S-Song?

seems like a nice not-so-huge option at 1oz. always helps when it has good reviews too
Check out savage gear. They make good glides and soft baits. MS slammer has caught me a TON of fish. My number 1 producing bait. Little more expensive but worth it. River 2 sea makes good glides. Duel hardcore decent glides and lipped baits.
7" MS Slammer- any color. The 9" is where it's at but weighs about 3 oz.
168 S Waver
Hudd 68
Spro Rat 50
Triple Trout-used
Black Dog Baits G2 Shellcracker
I would highly recommend joining some Facebook Swimbait groups because baits are always being sold at great discounted prices by people.Buying and selling is actually bigger than fishing them.If I was to give one piece of advice.Fish wake baits at night.
MS Slammer is the G.O.A.T

Swimbait Universe is the big one, tons of good info on there, too. Just search “swimbait” under groups and you’ll find a ton.
