What are u guys favorite buzzbait colors and when do u use those certain colors?
I prefer a black buzzbait anytime I am throwing one. I prefer the Cavitron brand with a black skirt and a black blade on it.

Same here!
Cavitron black on black or the ghost minnow sometimes.
I used to have zero faith in buzzbaits, but Iv been throwing a chartreuse/white Booyah with the "clacker" lately, and Iv been killin em.
Cavitron black on black
Black on black don't know what brand it is might be a cavitron
Black on Black, Really? I have never used anything but white or white/chartreuse. I figured the bass was looking up and most fish are white on the bottom so use white. Same with Spinnerbaits (mostly).
I'll have to try black. I prefer dark for all my plastics and jigs.

You ever catch anything on the ghost?
Black cavitron with gold blade for me.
Here and there at night. I think they just key in on the sound. But I usually throw black. On 7/19/2013 at 8:02 AM, Revival said:You ever catch anything on the ghost?
In order of success:
-white
-sexy shad
-chartreuse
-red
-black
Those are about the only colors I feel I need; if the fish aren't hitting them then the buzzbait bite isn't on. Typically it seems that buzzbaits are a reaction bait and that the color is insignificant compared to the size, sound and water displacement. I usually have the best luck with quieter buzzbaits, even when the water is mildly choppy. I'll throw on a clacking buzzbait when there are whitecaps, but usually only in the late fall (though I'll usually throw on a pencil bait if they're hitting the clacking buzz, as it seems to attract larger fish.) There's no time when I use any particular color over another, I just check the water color and pick something that looks natural in contrast. I've caught fish at night using white, and I've caught fish in gin clear water on black.
IMHO buzzbaits are pretty simple in theory, but require skill/experience to know when and where to throw one. Don't have a link but there's a good video online showing what a buzzbait looks like from underwater; and contrary to popular belief, the fish can't see the color of the blade when it's churning on the surface.
One more thing... always throw a trailer hook on when conditions permit.
Black Cavitron 3/8
Cavitrons
White and Black
White sunny days
Black early AM and cloudy days
Cavitron black on black
If ya don't like them -I buy them back
Like everyone else on the forum, I only throw a black Cavitron.
I was looking for the Cavitrons at Dick's and they are always out of them.
Black Vision Lures Honeybuzz - with the rusted rivet.

When a fish looks up at a black bait it can see the outline of the bait better against the (usually) lighter background.
I'll go ahead and give the horse another kick, 3/8oz black on black Cavitron 99% of the time for me.
Man, I gotta get myself some of these Cavitrons. I'm still looking for my first buzzbait fish.

This is why I fish a Cavitron. My first time out with my first 3/8oz black on black Cavitron. About 4 hours of some of the most explosive topwater strikes I've seen.
Anyone use the black/red blade?
Strike king tournament model I think, Maybe the pro model, I can't remember. Chartruse is my go to color, but I also throw a sexy shad in really clear water. I do throw black, but they are home made and i mostly throw the black at night.
I am going to go buy a cavitron, I hear nothing but good things about them.
Good luck,
Jim

Yes, it works just the same. I just stick with black on black to keep it simple.
I am jazzed. I found a Cavitron and I am ready to throw it tonight. With all the positive reviews, I am expecting a 5 lber on my first cast tonight!! I'll report back on my success later.
Might be 8lbs!

Don't be silly and be more realistic... It should take about 5 casts.
So I spent about 45 mins with the 3/8 oz black/red blade Cavitron and sadly no bites. But I did get a 2.64 lb on a 4" senko. I might try it out again tomorrow morning.

First time I used it I also tried it for half hour and switched to something else. Last Wednesday morning,I was determined to stick with it longer and caught a 4.29 lber. Biggest fish for me since returning to bass fishing and fist on a buzz bait!
Here is what I have been slammin them on -The alewife minnow -yes black is my go to but the ghost has been putting 15 a day in the boat. this is a new and great color and has been my top producer since the beginning of July
