Looking For Good Top Water Lures 2025

fishing user avatarJim Hill reply :

Hey all,

Looking for some good (preferably plastics) top water lures.  Senkos work REALLY good where I go but im sick of getting stuck on a rock or log.  Im looking for a really good top water or floating type of bait that will work really good.  Im going to get it on amazon most likely so if there is a link for it you can add it.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

Yum money hound is similar to a walk the dog bait and is a soft plartic bait. Zoom horny toad is another favorite.

Rage Toad, Mernace & Bug

fluke, Slug-Go

fishing user avatarJim Hill reply :

seems there are a lot of suggestions for frog type lures, are they generally better then worm types?  Im fishing from shore if it makes a difference.

also a friend of mine stationed in florida suggested  I use Zoom trick worm, bubblegum colored.  He swears by the things!

fishing user avatartimsford reply :

I really like the trick worms in bright colors but they slow sink depending on hook size. As far as topwater soft plastics the money hound is great and so are frogs. I like the zoom horny toad and strike king rage tail but there are a lot of good brands out there

fishing user avatarbassnbornboy reply :

Here are some really nice floating worms; T-Mac. Copy and past this link into your browser: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dsporting&field-keywords=+super+trick+worms&rh=n%3A3375251%2Ck%3A+super+trick+worms

What kind of hook are using with your Senkos?  You should be able to rig it so that it is very snag free.  Try an EWG hook and skin hook the point.

using 2/0 or 3/0 EWG hooks wacky rigged with an O ring.  If I could not get snagged, I'd probably never swtich.  All tho there are a LOT of weeds I do not use one with a weed guard.

I just figured with the line, which goes out about 8 feet off shore, and being stuck in rocks a lot, I switch to top water.  I know the trick ones sink a little with a 2/0 or 3/0 but I figured it wouldn't have enough time to sink as far and get stuck.  Its SO disappointing to go and continuosly get stuck and have to tie up again ya know?

Try the Stanley ribbet frog

I hear you, I didn't realize you were wacky rigging.   The only thing I might suggest is trying a smaller wacky rig hook or rigging tx style.  The trick worm fished weigtless will be easier to keep out of the rocks.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

Zoom speed craws and rage craw work great when used like a buzz bait!

Last night I went out and used a senko and rigged it tx style.  I did not get stuck once, which is good, but seemed I missed more and the senko kept gettin shredded.   Im currently looking into all the suggestions and it appears more often then not people suggest some sort of frog type bait so I'll get one of those and something else.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

Depending on how you fish it or tune it, the mann's -1 in baby bass was awesome for me today.  I fished it right at the surface and had two great fish jump out of the water and crush it.

fishing user avatarlazyfish01001 reply :

Lunker frog, man. I'm in northern Kentucky and only use the treefrog, since that's all they had in stock. It's a versatile frog in that it can be used in a few ways. It floats, till you throw it so many times, then it takes on water so you can get it deeper. You can pull it fast or slow. It's weedless design makes it ideal for any pond or lake with thick vegetation around the bank. For around 7 bucks, you can't beat it. I have a few others with skirt legs, but I find the retracting legs of the lunker just look more natural, maybe it's just a metal comfort thing. I'm told topwater torpedeos are great for warm summer months, along with jitterbugs, but I still haven't caught a fish on one yet this year. I've had luck with topwater poppers and frogs, that's about it for top water. Good luck!

YOU CAN THROW ANY SOFT PLASTIC BAIT RIGGED WEEDLESS, AND A STRAIGHT SHANK HOOK USUALLY IS BEST COMPARED TO AN EWG AS THE WIDE GAP OFTEN WILL GET SOME MUCK STUCK TO IT....I WILL OFTEN THROW A RIBBON TAIL WORM, SLUG-GO, MAGNUM TRICK WORM, OR ONE OF MY FAVORITE, A 1/2 OZ. JOHNSON'S SILVER MINNOW GOLD SPOON OR SILVER SPOON WITH A BULKY TRAILER TO KEEP IT HIGH OR A CURLY TAIL GRUB 3-4" IN A CONTRASTING COLOR WITH FLAKE FOR MORE DARTING ACTION......YOU WILL BE AMAZED HOW WEEDLESS A SPOON CAN BE, AND THE FISH ARE RARELY SEEING FLASH IN THE WEEDS.....TRY A SMALLER SPOON IF HAVING ISSUES GETTING SNAGGED, BUT THE SILVER MINNOW OR JAWBREAKER SPOONS ARE CLASSICS FOR A REASON.

fishing user avatarBakerJosh reply :

Heddon Baby Torpedo in the "Clear" color. Looks like its made out of the same clear plastic as straws.

Don't know how, but it sure catches fish.

fishing user avatarPAGreg reply :

Norman weed walker is lots of fun.

fishing user avatarwarpath58 reply :

Another great come back bait is the Poes cedar ACE IN THE HOLE the make 2 size a 3'' and 5'' depending on how they measure I use the smaller ones and tune the blades to make them burp. Red and Black HANG ON

fishing user avatarBadBassWV reply :

Blackwater baits........ Lil Johnny one of the best top water baits ive ever used.

fishing user avatarGrant Schuen reply :

Stanley ribbet frog for sure color doesn't seem to matter! hook it on a 5/0 ewg hook and wait for the explosion!

fishing user avatargreentrout reply :

From my mileage: Heddon's Baby and Tiny Torpedo, Devil's Horse, Zara Spook & Puppy, Rebel Minnow, Chug Bug,

the Original  Lunker Lure 3/8 oz buzzbait and, when confronted with lily pads and slop, the Snag Proof Frog.

Old school basser...

fishing user avatareinscodek reply :

Theyre all good.. there are days where I am killin them only on cigars, then other days where props take over, and others when punker does better.
