Lets start a Value Thread for Tackle 2025

fishing user avatarguest reply :

TWhat do you guys use that costs less than top end for tackle that works good. This thread not for Expensive stuff Like Lucky Craft or GYCB, not knocking those brands looking for less expensive stuff, that people have experience with( By actually using it) and are happy with the results

NO SINGLE BAIT OVER 7.00 bucks

Plastics one name says it all: *** for me form Salty ***, to ripple tail worms to creature baits More durable, work great and 1/2 the price of "name brands"

Jigs: Barlows and Bps for me

Line; Cabelas Pro Line

Hard Baits; Rapala  ( First and Foremost) BPS and Heddon!

What can you guys add

fishing user avatarDavis reply :

7" Power Worms from Berkley.

3 bucks and some change for a pack. Most productive soft plastic for me ever. No matter the color.

IMO it is a lot more productive than that GULP junk.

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

Zoom everything.

Have to agree with this statement.  ;) Bandit 100's with the Mustad triple grips are some fish catching machines.

fishing user avatarJCrzy4Bass reply :

Mann's Minus One series.  Don't matter how fast or slow you run em', they catch fish left and right.  My favorite shallow running crankbait.

I also like Strike King spinners.  Cheap, right great out of the package, just need to sharpen the hooks every now and then.  My favorite is the Red Eye Special, I've caught more fish on this than any other spinner in my tackle.

fishing user avatarShadcranker reply :

SK Bitsy Flip in 1/4 oz size.

Zoom everything (10" Ole Monster, 6 and 8" lizards, Baby Brush Hogs, Finesse Worms, Super Flukes, Super Chunk Trailers, Ultra Vibe Speed Craws).

Norman DD 14 and DD 22 for deep cranking

Bandit 200 and 300 series

Chrome and Blue Rattle Trap (change the crappy hooks!)

Smithwick Suspending Rogue (4 1/2 ")

These are all "go to" baits for me.

Only higher end stuff I buy is Senkos and LC Topwater baits (plus a few high dollar swimbaits I'm not sold on yet).

fishing user avatarZel... reply :

For Smallmouth:

A) The Charlie Brewer Slider Worms.  Right now, the company is offering a bunch of 4 colors for $1.00 a 10 pack, and the 5 are going for $1.49.

;) The Charlie Brewer Spider web jigs are going for $1.00.

C) Bass Pro Shops Strata jigging spoon are great starting at $1.59.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

Under $7.00, I like Manns, Rapalas, and Normans DD22. I also like Mepps inline spinnerbaits.

For softplastic I like Berkley,Yum and Zoom Lizards. I have yet to try *** but when spring rolls around I will place an order. I usually buy Senkos and Ikas but I wait untill Dicks has them 20% off and I use a $10 off a $50 purchase, which makes them about $3.90 a pack.

zoom, and some  other local products for plastics

spinnerbaits have to be heavycover, best value out there

jigs would have to be pepperhawgs

fishing user avatarF15HGuy reply :

Zoom SS U-Tale worms, on sale now at Bass Pro for 2.00$ a bag!

fishing user avatarMyKeyBe reply :

I'll second the Mann's bait kit and the Strike King spinnerbaits.

Also a great value for new and unusual lures is the Riverside box at Wal-Mart for .99 cents. Yum baits for less than half the price.

Here is a photo of the Mann's kit I posted about a year ago.

fishing user avatarjb_adams reply :

Renegade Worms!

I can't find them on the internet or I'd post a link. You can find them on the bottom shelf at Wal-Mart for about $1.00 a bag. They are made by Luck E Strike USA in Casseville, MO. Here is a pic:

BlackFire.jpg

If you have murky or stained water. Use the little 6" finesse style black worm with the pink curly tail (Black Fire). I promise you'll catch plenty of hungry fish with this one rigged c-rig, t-rig, shakey head, whatever! When I was growing up, we called it a "firetail" worm and it was the staple of young anglers for creek fishing or pond hopping. These worms have a really sweet smell to them much like candy. I think this scent is one reason they are such a good bait.

I always have a bag of these. Lately, the "Motor Oil" color has been great on a shakey head.

fishing user avatarCaptain Chaos II reply :

Daiwa Peanut .  Cheap crank category and it works.....

Agree on the Zoom.

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

Here's some stuff I keep buying because it all keeps on catchin fish.

Zoom tubes

Berkley 7" Power worms

X-Raps

Norman N series cranks

Bandit 100's and 200's

Strike King spinnerbaits

Stanley Spinnerbaits

Any Rapala hard bait

Strike King buzzbaits

Zara Spooks

Heddon Torpedos

Berkley Power craws

Berkley Power brush hawgs

Zoom super flukes

Berkley Power tubes

MegaStrike scent

Powerbait liquid

There's more, but I think that's enough for now.

I like to shop for baits and other terminal tackle during late winter. That seems to be when I can find some bargains in the clearance bins. A lot of what I use is last year's clearance stuff.

Guess what? The fish don't know that.

Cheers,

GK

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

Gamakatsu  hooks  rank right up there for me. I have NEVER EVER found even ONE out of the thousands I have used over the years to be bad. No matter what style hook, they are always sharp and well made right out of the pack.

Zoom and Yum soft plastics also are very good, produce as well as the big "GY" brand for less.

Original Rat-L-Traps are the best bargin in hard baits today, even WITH changing out the hooks with better ones, the still don't cost as much as the premium priced lipless baits and can hold there own.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

THANK YOU FELLAS now there is a wealth of experience and suggestions for others to draw from 8-)

fishing user avatarHookemdown. reply :

Plastics:  Zoom for most, but I also like Culprit worms  and ***

Cranks: Mann's for shallow cranking, and bandit cranks for med depth (also like the rapala DT's)  DD22's are the only thing to use if you're going deep imho

Jigs: Stacey's flipp'n and finesse

Line:  Trilene Big game (pretty good line folks, it's what I use on my BC setups)

Jerkbaits:  Rouges, original rapalas, husky jerks and xraps

Topwater: Rapala's and Heddon

Spinerbaits:  Terminator SS series

fishing user avatarJimzee reply :

I know I am probably going to get laughed at but here it goes. You guys remember the Creme Scoundrel Purple Worm. I have not seen those in years. I used to catch tons of dink bass on those when I was a kid. Well to make a long story short, I found them at Gander Mountain the other day and bought every pack they had. I think they were $2.00 a pack. (used to be .79 a pack) I don't know if I bought them to use or just for sentimental reasons. Go ahead now...laugh. ;D

fishing user avatarjb_adams reply :

I hope someone takes me serious and will try the Renegade worms. They can be a go-to lure on tough bite days. If' they are biting any plastic, they will definately inhale these things. Must be the slightly sweet scent they have.

Jimeez79, I'm not laughing.  I'm right there with ya!  The Renegades are my "kid" lure and they are still good ones.  Especially for catching numbers.  I've caught 2-3lb bass on these little jewels too.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I get some Jelly Worms every once in a while form Manns site; Grape(Purple) and Marmalade(motoroil)Still work after all these years 8-)
