QuoteQuotekinami is garbage to me but i like gycbKinami is produced in the same factory as Yamamoto.
Now, there is no doubt I could be wrong about this, but I thought I read somewhere that Kinami is Mr. Gary Yamamoto's son's line of bait???
Whew, my memory isn't a total loss...yet.
Taken from the Kinami website:
"Tournament Tested, "Fish Approved". The name "Yamamoto" is nothing less than legendary in the multi-million dollar sport fishing industry, and Derek Yamamoto has drawn upon that heritage to found KINAMI BAITS® company young in years but wise with experience, KINAMI BAITS® is built on the knowledge of generations of fishermen and determined to maintain the family tradition of producing the highest quality, most effective soft plastic baits available.
KINAMI BAITS® features unique, tournament tested, "fish approved" designs and formulas. These affordable, premium quality, salt-impregnated plastic lures are so irresistible to denizens of the deep that success is a foregone conclusion!
Derek Yamamoto's love of all things fishing began while sharing time on the water with his father, Gary Yamamoto. Inspired by his dad's ongoing legacy of quality and commitment, Derek has sought to provide even more fishermen with greater access to some of his favorite, most effective products. This has led Derek to develop KINAMI BAITS®. In Japanese, "KI" refers to the spirit or heart, and "NAMI" means wave a perfect moniker for a line of products that recognizes fishing as not only a sport, but as a way of living, thinking...and breathing."

Think of it like this.
"Daddy I need some way of making money and I don't want to work hard like you did to get my cut. Can you do something for me?"
"Sure son. I tell you what. I will let you sell some of my baits under your own label but you have to put fewer baits in each package."
"Great dad. Thanks a bunch."

dude are you kidding? They are exactly the same. Even the price, look at the count per bag. Kinami has less...
They are both made in the same factory.
Please read the Senko FAQ in the Tackle forum. This topic has been covered several times before.

I haven't went indepth on who sells what, but I do like the looks of the Nories bug, and have not seen them in the GYCB package. I could very well have missed it though. I only buy certain color Senko worms and SwimSenko's.
I thought it was the same mold, but Gary wouldn't give his son the formula...?
QuoteI thought it was the same mold, but Gary wouldn't give his son the formula...?
I thought the same thing. There is a difference in the two baits. For example, the Kinami brand usually lasts longer but catches less fish as the Yamamoto Custom Senkos. The same colors are actually different when held up side by side also.
QuoteQuoteI thought it was the same mold, but Gary wouldn't give his son the formula...?Says who??? Same mold, same formula, SAME FAMILY, SAME BAITS (aside from a few color choices)

Maaan,....How much proof do you need?????
Are they the same formula? Kinami's seem more plasticy and smoother than Yamamotos. I think there is a difference, and not just in color.
Maybe they pour all the Yammies in the morning and the Flash's in the afternoon so there COULD be a slight temp change in the factory that is throwing things off....... :.......................but I doubt it.
Same bait, same formula, same factory, similar ridiculous price.
I've never melted them down in a lab and tested the goo's specific gravity. So could be.
But like I said, Lowe's Kobalt tools and Snap-On tools are made in the same factory and same dies - and Kobalt is crap and Snap-On is the best there is. So being made in the same factory and molds doesn't necessarily mean much.
The real test is to cast them side by side. They'll both tear just as quickly ;D
QuoteThe real test is to cast them side by side. They'll both tear just as quickly ;D
Now that I'll agree with. Yamamotos tear like wet toilet paper.
It's all part of the formula,.....the formula for making lots of money off fisherman, lol.
They use a little less hardener and a larger grain salt than most makers. Hence the tear-ability. There is no need to use a larger grain salt other than to help it tear and need to be replaced................for $.70/ea
No thanks,lol
But like Glenn said, this is ALLLL covered in the "SENKO FAQ'S" There's more in there than you can read in a week!!
Kinami = GCB= Kinami = GYCB etc. NO DIFFERENCE IN FORMULA
the "daddy" post is cute but not what I have read and believe.
Derek Y, is a smart, well educated, businessman.
Back in the day when you could only get Yammies off of his website and a few elite retailers, young Derek the wise said something like "Dad, get real dude....we're losing a fortune by not going into the retail outlets."
Gary, believed that the only way to justify the premium price was to keep the bait exclusive (as Redline about the waiting list for any new ferrari model)
Sooooooo, they came up with a marketing strategy......Put a different name on the baits and sell them at Sears, Sports Authority and other pedestrian outlets.
It proved the adage "There's always a way to milk more bucks out of a basser"
Gary then made a deal with the retailer of all retailers i.e. Wal-Mart and GYCB and kinami baits became the household names they are today.
As far as yammies being overpriced and fragile...........Poor us.....a bait that is so good you are virtually assured of catching a few practically everytime out is not good enough because it doesn't catch more of the fish we would have never caught in the first place.
Guys like Brent and the other "knock offs" make great baits.....but in all honesty, how many of these guys would have a successful bait company if they didn't have the benefit of GYCB designing killer baits?
Difference is ..... if you have $5 in your pocket, you get the Kinamis and less # of baits. If you have $6.50, you get the Yamamoto and get more baits. I use them both cuz they catch fish.....
I can't tell the difference except for some colors.
Allurng: less than 1/2 price of either GYB or Kinami ( Same bait, different bag) , last longer ( More Fish Per Bait) and catchs fish as well as GYB's
QuoteKinami = GCB= Kinami = GYCB etc. NO DIFFERENCE IN FORMULA
This is true except for the "swirl colors" that Kanami offers. Those are not made in the same factory according to guys at the Yamamoto both at the 06 Bassathon.
Wow, all I did was make a post backing up what Burley said, and I created a living breathing monster....cool. ;D
Well, this used to come up every other week. For the past year or so we have cut it off early by referencing the Senko Sticky, but since it's been awhile, maybe we'll let it run another page or maybe not...

The Kinami vs. Yamamoto discussion is well documented in a couple of threads listed.
:
Here we go .... again.
Two GYCB Pro Staffers, members of this forum ( Triton Mike & JT Bagwell ) have confirmed in several ocassions that both, GYCB and Kinami, are the exact same bait.
Raul, I read a lot of different things on this subject.
For me, it's a confidence thing, like most fishermen. I have more confidence in fishing with GYCB and had more success with them.

That's fine. But I think your trying to pass them off as two different baits when in fact the mods and others have said that they are NOT different. Except for some colors.
This horse has been beat to death buried and dug back up and beat agin.
Yup. Game over. Closing this thread now.
