Lucky Crafts we don't like? 2025

fishing user avatarBlue Streak reply :

We all know that the Pointers, Slender Pointers, Sammys, and LVs are all great bass catchers. But how about some of their other baits. I have heard some negative things about some of them. What do you all think? Is there some you wish you had not spent all of that money on?

fishing user avatarT-rig reply :

I dont really like the Real Vib from lucky craft. I never get the darn thing to run the way i want.

Very nice finish and all but it doesn't run right.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

T_rig, they don 't have those in the american market.

fishing user avatarLucky Craft Man reply :

I second the Real Vib.  They don't seem to have a very enticing action or vibration.  Two other Lucky Craft lures I've tried and don't really like are the Live Pointer and the Live Sammy.  I found it a little more challenging to get the Live Sammy to walk the dog, which is very easy with the standard Sammy.  I also don't think the Live Pointer has near as much erratic action as the standard pointers.  JMHO.

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

I am actually not a real big fan of the LV's. To me they look waayyyy better than Rat-l-traps, but I have had better luck with the traps by a long shot.

fishing user avatarhi_steel_basser reply :

I know I'm gonna get pounded for it, but the only LC lure I like is the pointer or steysee. Sammys really dont produce well for me, I'd rather throw a spook jr. As for the rattlers, rat-l-trap is the only one I need. I really haven't tried any of their regular cranks, so I can't knock them.

fishing user avatarR1Peacock reply :

Try the "Gunfish" --- This bait walks the dog great --- very easy bait for beginners to learn how to walk the dog.  Great bait to use on the Potomac River.

so true  ;D

fishing user avatarBlue Streak reply :

What do you all think of their crankbaits?

fishing user avatarInfidel. reply :

I don't like the Moonsalt or whatever they are called but I do like the Rick Clunn bait and the Flat CB's.

I have to add that I strongly dislike the Staysee.  If you guys ever run across me at the lake I'll give you mine.  They are just wasting space.

fishing user avatarzachvii reply :

Any crank baits made my Lucky Craft I have not had any luck on.  Staysee's and Pointers seem to be the only thing that works for me.

fishing user avatarearthworm77 reply :

There are a ton of LC baits available for club members in Japan, you see them on ebay a lot. I like the Sammy's and LV's and the newer Amrican released Pro cranks. One baitthat flies under the radar is the Malas. This is a popper but has an angled cup so that if you started to crank it, it dives under the surface and can be run like a shallow diver with a nice wiggle. As far as baits I don't care for...anything in the Live series...overkill.

fishing user avatarTournyFish001 reply :

the cb's 250 and 350 suck- I can't get anything to bite them.  I hate the live pointer as well- junk.  I consider those baits "unlucky craft".

Bizzle, Ill split them with ya!!   :)

I dont have any of them...only one LC to my name  Pointer 100 in American Shad

fishing user avatarCravin reply :

I don't have one at all, But the more I hear you guys in this site  I'll probably give one a run this year. i think I'm just looking for something new for my toy Box(tackle box)  to be honest. that pointer in a # 38 ,#52, and #70 look tasty in the BPS Bible.

What are you favorite patterns?

fishing user avatarInfidel. reply :

Sorry guys, the Staysees already found  a new home.  I don't know what it is about that bait, I can be catching fish on a Deep Husky Jerk but I pick up the Staysee and nada.  Gald they work for someone though.

I had to look at the name to be sure I wasn't reading my own post.

I agree with what you wrote, verbatim literatim  :D

The Live Pointer hasn't impressed me.  Neither has the Flat CB MR, which I think the Bandit Flat Maxx works as well or better.  The Lucky Craft baits to buy are the Gunfish for topwater, the Pointer and Slender Pointer for Jerkbaits, the Moonsault, Fat CB, and RC for cranks, and the LV500max traps.  It's a tie between the RC 1.5, BDS 2, and Moonsault cb100 for which crank has caught me the most bass...all three lay it down on the water I fish.

Giving away one of my best kept secrets? The only LC cranks I use are the RC 1.5 ones and they work great. Both the gunnish and g-splash are in my top 5 topwater lures but the Sammy just hasn't produced much. For this year I bought some bevy and S8 poppers to try. The live pointers work well for me but not as a jerkait, I reel them slow and they have an action similar to that javalon video.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I don't like the staysee either, but will give it another chance after reading this post.

I seem to be the exception here but the live pointer is very good to me.  I fish it very slow.  slower than slow.  like a fluke.  give it a litte jerk on a windy day and it will just suspend and wiggle in place a long time.

Now the live Sammy 120 is my go to big bass bait.  It is an all or nothing proposition.  It will either get nothing or get smashed by big bass.  I have had a number of occasions where it has produced 6 and 7 pounders that i posted the pix.

It is harder to get the walking cadence.  But let is sit awhile.  give a big fish a chance to circle back after the initial splash.  They will hit it just bobbing in the water, but more often a few cranks will draw the strike.  I never use it untill I have established that a topwater bite is on.

Those live baits should have different names, because they are completely different baits and need to be fished differently to be most effective.

My favorite LC is the pointer. an LV500. I like the gunfish too.  Very fun bait to fish.

The one I loaned my partner and he just lost.

WHAT??!!??...........now how can a bait that cost's almost twice as much not be any better, or GASP, less effective? And here I thouht lucky crafts were magic, all you had to do was have them in the boat and you were 10 times better than those that use "cheap junk" rapala's. (stated tounge in cheek........lol or maybe foot in mouth)
