Columbia Vs. North Face 2025

fishing user avatarJWOA reply :

I was looking at some Columbia gear and North Face for bass fishing. I didnt like the BPS stuff...made me look fat...go figure.. Do any of you guys where this stuff?

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

Both companies make good stuff.  I wear both.  Columbia is a little bit cheaper but to me, North Face's quality is a little better.   When I go out for a day on the water I wear long sleeve shirts, pants, gloves, a buff and a hat.  I haven't gotten a sunburn in 2 years.  It makes being on the water so much more pleasant.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

Columbia for me - North Face stuff is cut a little narrow for me.

But the deal is Cabela's Guide Wear - It's all good quality, backed by the company and at a fair price.

I'm a fan.

A-Jay

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

What type of gear?  Are we talking jackets, rain pants or sportswear, base layer fleece etc...

I am not a fan of columbia for their fit as it is to boxy for me.  I prefer a more tailored fit as it allows better movement and also assists in the performance of the garment.  The quality of The North Face is better than columbia but not by much as you are buying the name as much as anything.

I have a few columbia sportswear items i have bought on sale but other than that I am going with ArcTeryx, Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear and marmot for the majority of items.

Be sure to frequent www.sierratradingpost.com as they have a ton of great deals on closeouts of top of the line gear.

fishing user avatarsarcazmo reply :

Honestly I'll second the Cabela's recommendation.

Its at least equal quality backed by Cabelas and its on sale all the time.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

Excuse me...did you say it makes you look fat? :eyebrows:

Did you ask your wife/girlfriend, "honey, do these rain pants make my butt look big"?

Just kidding with you. Proper fit is important.

I have used items from both companies, and do not really have a preference. I will second the sierra trading post website for outstanding deals.

Campmor website also often has markdowns with steep discounts at the end of each season.

North Face

fishing user avatarLMB ANGLER reply :

I wear Columbia and i like it. alot of saltwater pros wear Columbia.

fishing user avatarpbizzle reply :

I like Columbia, for 3 reasons.

1-cheap for the quality that it is

2-fits well and a lot of the stuff looks nice (nobody wants to look tacky)

3-the T-shirts have cool pictures on the back (doesn't effect you're performance on the water, but still important)

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

Columbia fits me better.  I usually wear shorts, t shirt and sandals, both Penn long sleeve and Gotcha short sleeve t shirts are the same, good fit and good quality.  In the cooler months I wear fishing pants and a long sleeve t, gets below 60 and I may not fish. I like keeping the clothes to a minimum.

fishing user avatar5fishlimit reply :

North Face doesn't have the same quality as Columbia for the items in the same price point, IMHO.

North Face gets better in the high end technical GEAR, but they have really catered to the soccer mom/fashion crowd with the jackets and fleece over the last few years.

I really like the Columbia PFG line, and also the Omni-heat coats with the shiny silver lining.

fishing user avatarNorcalBassin reply :

I have a number of items from both compainies that I'm happy with (plus Simms), but if I'm going for "higher end" gear that I absolutely need to perform I'll pay the extra for North Face.

fishing user avatarSudburyBasser reply :

Another vote for the Columbia PFG line.

fishing user avatarGreeneye8181 reply :

North Face is the better choice IMO. It was cost you a few extra bucks but when you want a better product that's what happens. I do agree they are a tad overpriced though when compared to Columbia.

fishing user avatarcajunpapi reply :

Columbia has a problem with the buttons on their slacks and shorts,  do not stay buttoned. Very aggreviating. Love the shirts!

fishing user avatarolegs reply :

I have Columbia and North Face. But I prefer North Face when I am fishing from the boat in October, November.

My experience has shown that Columbia is a much better fit for me. I think I will have to  try out some North Face in the furture.
