Doesn't matter which style crank or depth... Just name your favorite color crank!
I like Tennessee Shad
Being the waters I fish are usually stained green , deep diving cranks doesnt make much difference to me. I just use whatever tickles my fancy at the time. Shallow cranks I definitely like a bluegill imitator with a good amount of yellow on it . Like the one second from the bottom. Thats a real nice color that the bass inhale.
Varies by style

LC American Shad
I've done well with black and gold in dirty water.
If it has the name Megabass on it then all of them.
Generally speaking, Red Craw, Sexy shad, Bluegill

Crankbait: sexy shad. Lipless: red
Fat Free Shad's Tenn. Shad and Strike King's Sexy Shad have been my best producers for the last few seasons.
Helsinki from Rapala
I really have no favorite crankbait color, but focus more on the pattern.
I like to see a distinct color transition along the lateral line, a finish with defined scalation
and if possible a 'shoulder dot' like a shad, herring, alewife ~ ~

The one I catch the most fish on is a custom-painted black and blue wakebait. It works great in stained to muddy water and is great at night because of not only the color but also the wide wobble and loud rattles. The second best color I use is matte firetiger.
Purple, pink and yellow.
Bluegill for clear, fire tiger for stained/murky.
I like the shad patterns but with something a little different.: A purple back or smokey color. Something to set it apart from the millions of shad out there. But lately, I'm fishing a place with gold shiners and I look for a gold/black pattern.
AND CRAWFISH!!!
red/black OR shad
Bluegill patterns seem to work best around here.
I've been killing them on KVD 1.5 in Bluegill and Rapala shallow diver in bluegill for the past week or two.
For some reason they all seem to have some chartreuse in them even if a touch, but I like to use a spike it chart marker and put a stripe on each side of all crankbaits when water is not crystal clear, or when bream are the foodsource..Right now I am throwing all chart/blue or chart/blacks in stained water with weeds.
I don't believe I've ever caught a bass off of a crankbaits, so I guess I don't have a favorite color. I only use one about once or twice a year.
I actually like clear cranks or topwaters in very clear water as I can fish a bigger bait and fish have a hard time telling the size since it is clear..A clear chug bug or clear rattle trap is killer for me a times when water is crystal clear in rivers, and I need lighter line...Don't sleep on translucent baits, the Sebile Flatt SHad Series has some great clear colors.
Bandit 100 - Mad cow looks cool and catches smallies
Deep divers - fire tiger both clear and stained water and bluegill in clear water.
