Another Whopper Plopper question 2025

Was wondering what color are you guys and ladies fishing with T1000, Phantom Shad? I know it all comes down the fisherman/lady color preference but what works in freshwater? I plan on purchasing few colors and wanting to know what color the bass hits. Also writing making notes on what lure and fish hits what.

cant go wrong with Loon and Bone as a starting point. You will also get some guys that say color does not matter on a bait like the plopper, you will also have guys who believe a custom paint job is the ticket. Day in and day out, loon and bone will do more than get the job done.

I'll see what colors I can find when I go and purchase them. Is there any certain way I need to fish with them rod up or down when turning the handle to retrieve the lure?

I have a 130 in frog color, It's alright. I love the Loon color in the 110, especially at night. But my go-to is Munky Butt

Bone is my go-to, but I think they all work fine. I think they’re mostly chasing the surface commotion and sound

1) Monkey Butt , Phantom Shad (or other see-thru / transparent color )
2) Bone or I Know It (light non see-thru / opaque color)
3) Loon (dark color)
The above would give you a great starting point - personal preference would be in the WP 110 size as it is a nice size and weight to get started if or until you decide you want to try the WP 130 or the new WP 75 . I would pass on the WP 90 size as functionality / ease of use was improved on the WP 110 and then later when the WP 75 came out .

I have the Loon and Bone color. Both have been a lot of fun to fish. Not the biggest producers for me when it comes to topwater but still a lot of fun and a well made bait.

I have four different colors. The only color I've caught bass on is the Loon. Of course I use it the most since that's the one I caught the first few on. When I've tried the others after a couple of casts I go with Loon so the others may not have gotten a fair shake.

Thanks everyone for the replies I went with T1000 and Loon. I'll be using my Abu Garcia Revo X spinning reel and rod combo with 10lb Spiderwire line.

I'd definitely bump up that line. It sucks losing a $15 lure.
I throw all my ploppers on 50lb braid. I've broken off branches before I snapped the line.

I've been throwing the WP 75 on 10lb braid on my spinning reel for the last week. I caught several nice smallmouth on it with no problems. 50lb is over kill to me. Even on my baitcasters I only use 20lb. braid. The line never digs in and If I had to, I can still break the line even though I haven't had to.

Bone and loon for me also. 95% of my fish have been caught on the 90 bone whopper plopper.

Bone, without a doubt.
Munky Butt and Bluegill have also been good producers for me, but the weird thing is in some lagoons these are consistent producers while in others I've never had a bite.
I did have a 130 Loon but never, ever had even a strike on it. On the other hand, when the line snapped the lure went really, really, really far.

@Brew City BassWhere I fish there isn't much more than a 10lb test line is needed I never had the chance to offshore to fish or anything like that.

I love Monkey Butt and my friend always throws my others which are Bone and Loon and all catch fish.
I've come to find out that if fish are biting WPs color doesn't seem to matter. When they are not biting WPs color also does not matter. lol

Hahaha I did that once too. Just kept sailing. I got mine back though.
No love for powder? I have probably 10 different colors in various sizes and the 110 in powder has been my best producer. However I’ve been throwing the 75 in loon lately and really like it. The 75s are pretty great so far.

Not sure what size WP you went with but I would go up to #20 lb. power pro braid for more shock absorption : If you a situation with #10lb. braid where your line snags on a rod guide (wind knot) , becomes temporarily buried in the spool , or any other situation where your line snags for just a split second - the result will be your WP will go sailing across the water , into trees , etc. making it unlikely you will get the WP back . *While #10 lb. braid is strong - it does not do so well sudden stoppage with a weight at the end (i.e. poor shock strength) .

My Whopper Plopper 90 in Bluegill color is the most productive color I own. I fish extremely clear waters for Smallmouth Bass and they love the Bluegill WP.

I fish almost exclusively for spotted bass and they like bright colors. I didn't like any of the factory colors so I painted a couple in this pattern. It's caught a lot of fish

This color would do well for smallies too - caught a lot of them on the 130 size but brighter colors like this might be even better..

That's why you bump up the line size. Go whipping that heavy lure on the end of that long rod, on light line and you are asking for trouble. But like others have said, whatever works for you!

Hold the rod high when reeling. this will become clear to you within a few casts.
Around Mid MI I've had very little luck with the WP. Loon/Bone 110
