Best braid line cutter- Boomerang Tool Company hands down. Very much worth the $12.99 or so they charge for it.

Boomerang hands down. I went through 3-4 different pliers/cutters then I got a Boomerang at the suggestion of my local tackle shop. Now when I go fishing I consider it as essential as my fishing license.

I use cheap Rapala braid scissors. They seem to get lost or fly out of the boat so for 3-5 bucks they work.

I got a small pair of sewing scissors at the sewing section in Walmart and I think that they work great for cutting braid. Ten to fifteen bucks - something like that. Other fishing tools that I like are a 30" fish gripper - it makes landing crank bait fish much saver and I don't have to have the net taking up space on the deck. I have an extra long pair of Rapala needle nose pliers that I like. The extra length come in handy more often than you might think. I keep a jaw spreader in the boat and have never used it - but you never know when you might catch some "toothy" fish.

I carry a small bolt cutter that has come in handy several times. I need to remember to keep a decent machete in the boat. Sometimes when removing bait from branches it is easier to just whack off the whole limb.

I use to have issues losing fishing pliers in the boat. Now I keep 5 or 6 pairs strewn around in different spots in the boat and there is generally a pair close to where I want it to be. Sometimes needle nose vice grips are a better option than regular needle nose pliers. Like my old high school shop teacher said, "Use the right tool for the job."

I dont use braid, but I have a few good pairs of needlenose pliers, a couple hook files, a multi tool, a decent pair of suture hemostats, a pair of diagonal cutters, and a huge saltwater hook (for painted over hook eyes).

The multiple tools are for the front and back decks, I use to have a pair of "long nosed diagonal cutters", or "articulated" for cutting deep buried hooks, but cant find them. They were very valuable to have. Wish I could remember where I got them, so I could replace them. Probably a electricians, or linemans situation specific type tool I'm guessing, but they were cool, and worked great for gut hooked fish, just snip off the point and barb and weasel the hook out, or get as much as possible anyways.

I use the Pitbull Tackle cutters on braid. I haven't tried all of them but I don't see how any could be any better.

Boomerang or small swiss army knife sissors for me to cut line.

I keep a few sets of needlenose pliers handy, preferably 8" with a thin profile.

I also have a set of klein long handle side cutters for cutting hooks. Tested them out on an bad (missing 3rd hook) 2/0 kvd treble (1x strong 2x short) and it snapped it off quickly.

Only other tools fishing specific are a wacky o-ring tool, eye buster for painted eyes, regular sissors, and some "thinning" sissors for trimming up jig skirts.

I love my Boomerangs. Question, though. Some time back, someone here on BR suggested NOT using them for fluoro/mono/hybrid, etc. Just use them on braid, because other lines will dull them....or something to that effect.....

Any (other?) thoughts on this? The Boomerang site suggests all lines...I've been keeping nippers on hot standby for other lines (to preserve the edge on my Boomerangs), but it sure would be nice to just use the single tool.

I've never heard that I use my Boomerang tool for all types of line.

I use my Boomerang for all types of line but I'll agree that it'll lose it's cutting edge over time. I replace them every two years (used to be every year but I just change location along the edge I where cut my line now and can make it last longer).

The retractable cord with the small loop is what makes it so handy - I have a small keychain caribiner I attach it to, and attach the caribiner to my backpack or ideally the belt loop on my fishing pants.

I use my boomerang on all line types, and the blades definitely do dull over time. I get a solid year out of it before I start thinking about replacing it. Not that big a deal - I just look at it as a consumable item.

Now I should qualify this by noting that I've never tried using it strictly for braid, but I assume it would likely keep its edge a little longer if I did. Just not worth carrying two different line cutting tools to find out.

Fiskars child proof scissors. On clearance at my local walmart for ONE DOLLAR. I guarantee you'll get at least one season out of them. As a bonus, they come in some of the cutest colors you've ever seen.

I will agree with the Boomerang tool as being great. A friend has one and it works well. But it sells for $23 up here, so as @nascar2428 said I go with the Fiskars kiddo scissors. They work great on braid and I have had mine for over 2 years and still going strong.

agreed on the boomerang cutters. They work really well and I use them on all kinds of line. Braid, mono, and fluoro and haven't had any issues with them so far
