I might be a little late on them but the other day i looked at them at the local tackle store.. anybody tried em?? are they smooth?? do they handle big baits good?? has anyone flipped with them?? ive got a few worm/jig rods i could put them on.. thanks for any advice
everything I have heard about them has been extremely negative.. I played around with one at the BPS the other day and it just felt junky..
It looks like Brent Chapman fishes with them. He didn't seem to have an issue during the Classic.
It feels like a middle of the road sub $100 reel... Spend $50 more and get a reel that will last alot longer & perform at a much higher level.
my buddy has one and really likes it but i think it is absolute JUNK. they are cheap feeling and do not feel smooth at all. it is the same price as the bps PQ and i will put my PQ against it anyday
This is the tackle tour review of the reel.

they make good $100 paper weights. Either spend around the same price and get a BPS PQ or spend more and get a Shimano Citica
Or get a new Lew's Speed Spool for around the same price. Or a Citica for $90 on the bay

this.
For me Shimano Caenan or Citica if you want to stick in your price range. The Skeet Reese reels, you do realize may perform just was well or maybe even better then some other reels. Just cause it feels cheap, doesn't necessarily mean it will not last you. Lots of people use them. I have no experience with them. And neither do a lot of other people commenting. Holding something means nothing.
If you feel compelled to maybe purchase one I say go for it and see for yourself. You wouldn't be asking this question if you haven't already had a hint of interest in getting it.
can't believe Tackle Tour gave it such a high score !!! read the whole review and it seemed like a reel i would never buy :-? some thing ain't right with that review , for all the stuff that was off on that reel , and they said it was "great" , come on , seems like a reel comparable to a black max ........... 8-)
I mess with them at work sometimes. Something about the reel just feels off to me? Had a guy buy one and said he loves it though.
I was also really suprised by the review on tackletour. I own 11 of the skeet rods and absolutely love them. However, I will never own one of the reels. I agree with the people that posted before, it just feels junky to me. The local shop here has dropped the price of them to like $60. I wouldn't even give that for one when I can buy an extreme for about the same price at the shop. I've never used one, but just the feel of it is enough for me not to buy it.

As much as I like to read the reviews on TT, there's very little uniformity or consistancy to their ratings. The Skeet Reese (which, according to most of the reviews I've read, feels like a piece of junk to just about everyone who handles it) gets a 8.08, but the Patriarch only gets a 7.5? :
I don't think anyone here has even used one but they are hating on it!?? There good enough for Skeet Reese! Have you been to the classic? No, has he? Multiple times. I'm not saying this is a good reel but you shouldn't hate it if you haven't used it. I don't have one but paired it with the Skeet Reese rod and it felt great. Taclketour, Brent Chapman and Skeet Reese all love this reel, I'm gonna try it I think you should to!
It may be a great reel, but it feels like something you'd find in a hanging in a blister-pack at Walmart.
Skeet may like them, but I won't be buying one...or one of his rods, either.

it didnt feel right in the store so no i will not be trying it
Not only were they not as smooth...depressing the lever for casting & cranking the handle, as the abu orra, the revo s, the cabelas prodigy, or the diawa exceler, they are also butt-ugly. That was enough to ward me off. His spinning reels felt even worse. And did I mention they are butt-ugly? ;D
anyone who actually has these reels and uses them, informed comments are always welcomed...

Thier patriarch review really annoys me the olny real negatives are that it's too heavy and doesn't come in a Lefty. 8.4 for the widespool is still lighter than an Zillion, Advantage, Revo S, SX, and STX, and the LP is 8oz,
The fact that "Has all the "clickies"" is a plus, eventhough the "clicky" drag star was inconsistant with lots of play, just makes me doubt the review. When a major amount of your score depends on whether or not the adjustable parts click, you're really throwing personal preference into what is supposed to be a non biased review. It really seemed they didn't have much good to say about but really strectched it, the fact that it comes with a reel cover and its good for accurate casting, aren't most reeels in the right hands?
There are about 5 different reels I would choose over one in its price range. I hate the color and how it feels, I tried one at a local tackle shop and I'd rather fish my old Quantum code.
I have looked at the reels at BPS and Cabelas and have not been very impressed at all. I know TT gave them a good review but the ones I have seen and handled in the store just do not feel very smooth or well built at all. Know that does not mean that they are not good reels, but I will definitely not be trying one out.

What didn't feel right about it? Atleast the ONE I held didn't feel bad for $60 (My wholesale price). I mean there wasn't any play in the handle but maybe these reels are crap... After reading this I will definitely play around with it more
I bought one because TT gave them a good review. I can say that the reel lives up to the review. I will admt it is'nt the smoothest reel out of the box, but once you lube it up it feels great. I liked mine. Also it is a great flipping and pitching reel, turn the brakes to "0" or "less" and it will flip pretty good.

it wasnt smooth at all, it was ugly(didnt matter much to me though), it didnt palm well for me so i just bought a BPS PQ which was cheaper
Huh? It felt good in my hand but that's abt it. Yea, I'm not gonna get one
I have one i have been fishing with since they came out and i have no complaints. I have it paired with his jig and worm rod and i like it for pitching and anything else i need it to do. I know the reviews are not very good depending on where you look but i like mine and i think for $100 it is light and fishes well. Does it compare to my Premier, i would say no but comes down to personal preference.
