What applications do you choose spinning gear over baitcasting?
For me, I like spinning gear for t rigs and spinnerbaits. I actually prefer it over baitcasting. The only time I would choose baitcasting gear for these 2 applications would be for flipping t rigs in slop, and if I had to make really long dead accurate casts. Other than that, I really like the feel of working a spinnerbait and plastics with spinning gear. It just feels "right".
What methods do you prefer spinning gear for and why?
I use spinning gear mostly for plastics like shakey head, drop shotting, light T-rigs, and split shot rigs. I also use it for some lighter jerkbaits like smaller Rapalas and smaller fluke-type lures. Baitcasting for everthing else.

Ditto with Crankenstein. I also use spinning for 1/4oz Pop-r and 1/4oz Zara Spooks
I use spinning gear for light weight applications and on REALLY windy days. Also for catfishing.
shakey head and flukes
Drop shot, split-shot
I use spinning gear for almost everything. I'm not real good with a bait caster and don't pull it out often enough. I've used a spinning set up since I was a kid so that's where I'm most confortable.
Weightless soft plastics, dropshot, jerkbaits
at night and split shotting live baits.
8-)
Lake Michigan Salmon, Trout and perch
Finesse Cranking and skippin tubes/ikas under docks is about it.
Bluegill and Crappie fishing.
I should preface by saying that my spinning gear is a heavier class than most baitcasting tackle.
Whenever casting is involved, I use only spinning tackle,
for instance: jigs, crankbaits, soft plastics, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, you name it.
When casting is secondary, I'll often turn to baitcasting gear, for instance:
live shiners, trolling, drifting, still fishing at anchor and certain saltwater apps.
Roger
shakey heads and drop shots.
thats about it.
in fresh water that is.
shakey head, drop shot, senkos, tubes, and on real windy days
Dingers, trick worms, and anything 1/8 and under. I also use them for anytime I need to skip.
Spinning.........panfish to sailfish, I have the suitable set up for my target. Use a heavier conventional just for a change of pace, trolling , drifting and relaxing.
When do I prefer to use spinning gear vs bc gear ? pretty simple, when I 'm on foot patrol, can 't cast well with bc gear when the brush and trees don 't let you, on the boat, well I pretty much don 't care, I use spinning for almost everything but flipping or swimbaiting.
most everything.
i use baitcasting gear for the following:
jigs and t-rig over 5/16oz
cranks and spinners over 5/16oz
swimbaits
carolina rig
frogs
75% of my fishing from May until July.
I use spinning gear for anything I don't use on fly gear or casting gear. ;D
Drop shot, shaky heads, small crank/jerk/top water baits, dragging tubes, small jigs+t-rigs, small weightless plastics, and skipping docks.
I use spinning gear for weightless plastics, lures <1/4 oz and skipping under docks & overhangs
Every thing.
Tubes, in line spinners, most walleye lures and basically anything under or around 1/8oz
senkos ,shakey heads, drop shots, pond magic spinnerbaits, tubes, light original floaters, light top water, live bait, and other fish like panfish and walleye
haven't used or needed one the past 3 years.
that said, recently inherited a sustain from an old fishing buddy who passed way too soon...paired with an sjr783, it will soon find its use somewhere in the lineup...if for nothing else than honoring an old friend.
other than that, i could easily live without one.
