save up a few more bucks and get a pflueger president. Under $50 the only reel I would reccomend is one of the abu cardinals.

Don't forget the flea market here on BR. I think I saw some Abu 800 series reels for close to what your price point is, I believe these were $120 reels when they were new.

Yes, those were mine and I sold all 4 of them, as well as a 502.

I've currently replaced all my spinning reels with Shimanos. I've only ever owned one Shimano spinning reel before now, a 4000 Spirex, which was heavy as a cinder block. I got rid of that. Now I own a couple of Stradics, a couple of Symetres and a current model Spirex 2500. One thing I've noticed regardles of the price of the reels, is that Shimanos are smooth. Even my cheap Spirex is smooth. Also, the rotors are exceptionally well balanced. If you turn the anti-reverse swith off on the Stradics and Symetres, the rotor is so well balanced that the reel handle swings to the down position as soon as you let go of it. And they get that balance without using screw-in counter weights in the rotor. I'm not used to that.

The Stradic is a bit more refined than the Symetres, but practically, they have nothing performance-wise on the Symetre. The Symetre is an exceptionally smooth and well balanced. It's a great reel for the price. If you can, I highly recommend saving a bit more for one. It will be money well spent.

I have heard differant people on here say that their symetre would bind up and not work when they got wet. I wish I would have listened . I bought one anyway and believe me , they do bind up. I got caught in a hard rain and the reel took a crap on me . After I dried it out it worked great , needless to say I'll never buy another one.

The pflueger president is a great reel. They sell at my local WalMart for $63. I have one, and will buy another.

If you don't mind buying online, you can pick up the President XT for $64 shipped. I just got one in yesterday to replace the Mitchell 308Xe that I've had on my "trunk rod" for a while now.

the best spinning reel available for 50 bucks is the quantum incyte. ive been championing this thing for four years. lol. no one is listening!!.... its better than the comparable daiwas and shimanos. or spend more for less *shrug*... up to you.

For a 5.2:1 ratio, you can't beat the Pflueger Trion reels. They are some tough workhorses.

If 6.2:1 is your ticket, then a Sedona 1000 or 2500, or save up another 30-40 bucks and get the Pflueger Supreme MG or XT.
