The 893 is absolutely the best jig/ plastics rod I've ever had the pleasure to fish. Had one for almost a year, and then sold it when I gave up bass fishing for a year.

I've been very very happy with my Helium3 (for bottom contact baits) that I bought for a steal when I got back into fishing, and I see no reason to replace it. But, but, you know, I'm getting the itch to get my hands on an NRX again.
What to do, what to do? Besides, I'll have to get another reel, and figure out what to use the Helium3 for. This is just the sort of problem I like to have.
Buy it if you can swing it or find a reasonable deal on one. The new Heliums are no sloutch. The NRX would be a nice upgrade though not a necessary one. You could sell the closest Helium to the 893 to help finance it.
Yes - they work - catch fish...
Yes....or get a custom built with a similar blank!

I have an 853 and I like it very much. I took advantage of a trade-in program from an online retailer in Arizona; they "hooked me up". A rep sample 893 should run you around $415 ish, and normally there are a few of those to be had in the mid to late summer.
However, I don't see a reason to change if the Helium is working for you (and it seems to be).
Short answer - YES!!!!! You already know how fantastic they are and life is too short... ha-ha.
I bought my first BC 4 years ago and didn't know what I was doing. Bought a Compre cranking rod for fishing a jig/worm. I know, I know... So then decided to buy a rod specifically to fish jigs/worms but didn't want to break the bank. So I got a Carbonlite 7' MH/F. And was happy with it until I fished with a buddy's higher end rod. SO this winter I bought an NRX 893C rep sample. Why didn't I buy this rod sooner?!?!?!?!?!?!?

They are nice rods no two ways about it, but they aren't light years ahead of the pack like when Gary L was there.
Yes.

Honestly, as big a fan of that stick as I am, I say no. Get yourself and Edge Black Widow and go nuts. Granted its not a 7-5, but man is it a sweet stick.
Of course you should.

Done.
Now I need to find a cheap reel; a Curado G maybe. I love those. Missed a Chronarch E on Ebay yesterday, went for ~$110 shipped.
Don't skimp on the reel deep! Pair that baby with something nice!

LOL, I had a Citica for a while on my first NRX, and then a Curado G for the rest of the time. I'm not into high-end reels really. Expensive rods, yes; enthusiast big baits, definitely; just not reels.

Sometimes it's all about the rod...sometimes it's all about the reel. For bottom contact, IMO it's all about the rod and you've got that covered...

Lucky you! HAHA

Sorry guys. I found a Curado I for $100 shipped, and bought that. Now I guess I need to learn how to use a non-VBS Shimano reel.

Perfect, I had that on my 894 for a while and it worked great.

Let us know how that rod is coming along.

Been on a good jig bite in the last few days, so I fished the Helium3 and the NRX side by side. Same line (12# Tatsu), same 3/8 oz jig, same trailer.
The NRX is magic. The Helium3 is almost there, but not quite. The crispness of the NRX is amazing. I do like slightly slower action of the Helium3 a little better though.
No problems detecting bites/ cover/ structure with either rod of course.
Which model Helium and NRX did you do the comparison of?

7'6" light-MH fast He3
7'5" MH extra-fast NRX (893C JWR)
Good deal! Sounds like both rods are similar in terms of ratings allowing a fair comparison.
It sounds like you know you are going to get one sooner or later, might as well make it sooner.

Good choice. I actually have one on my Helium 3, I like it a lot. I didn't find the brakes that hard to get used to.
