Hi all,
Shakey Head fishing is rather niche, tip sensitity helpful in order to improve feel and really be able to know what the jig is doing while you need a bit of backbone to set the hook, especially as most often, the hook is skin hooked.
Let me know your recommendations and why.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards
Matthew
A lot of guys will say NRX. I've never used one, but the best I've used is a St Croix 6'8 M/XF Legend Elite. I can only assume the Legend Xtreme is better.
NRX852S
I was thinking the G Loomis 822S SYR because it mentions Shakey Head in the description or the St Croix Legend Xtreme. Both rods are Medium 6ft 10" with extra fast tip. Both list lure weights as low as 1/8oz which sadly nothing in the St Croix Avid range seems to handle. I already have 4 St Croix Avid rods and they are awesome but the M/L needs a little more back bone and then the M needs a bit more sensitivity despite being XF. I am inided to go with G Loomis because of the more traditional looks than the St Croix Legend Xtreme.
For spinning it's tough to beat St. Croix's Legend Xtreme 70MLS.
For casting I really like the NRX802.
May also want to look at JDM rods or a custom build if money isn't a concern. Once you start talking about $300 rods I would say your options are going to be good and you should be able to find the exact rod you want.
Money no object? Have a custom built. Get exactly what you want.
The rod you're looking for is a Megabass
Megabass Arms Challenge.

How is a plastic on a jig head specialized?

DVT does bomb work. You wouldn't be dissapointed.
i read the article with interest, there was a lot of love for the DSR and mixed reviews for the SYR. While some didn't like the SYR because it was too light, that is what I'm looking for, using a 1/8oz Tungsten Shakey Head rig. I really like my St Croix Avid M/L XF tip for drop shot using a 3/16 tungsten tear drop weight if not weedy while a skinny weight if weedy. On 6/8/2015 at 2:53 PM, John G said:http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/157781-g-loomis-nrx-822s/
A custom rod sounds appealing but I wouldn't know where to start. What would you even say ?
Custom rod from DVT!!!! He built mine and Roadwarriors. If I'm correct we have same blank and guides. MHX HM blank, I went with 7'1 MAG ML/F. Also had reel sent to him so he could balance it perfectly. Rod is killer and his work is perfect!
Also make sure you pick up some zenith shaky head jigs from Siebert!
. You talk to a reputable builder and tell him exactly what you want. DVT is a Site Sponsor and guys are thrilled with his work.On 6/8/2015 at 8:06 PM, Bass&PanMan said:i read the article with interest, there was a lot of love for the DSR and mixed reviews for the SYR. Talk to DVT. Tell him EXACTLY what you're looking for and he'll make some blank recommendations and go from there.
The custom blanks out there today are AMAZING and easily on par with the upper echelon of off the shelf rods.
Go and get a custom!! Our RainShadow Eterinty2 ETES72ML has been coveted as being one of the best for this job!
The lure weight listed is 3/16oz which is similar to the St Croix Avid MXF that I already have. I'm looking for the best of the best 1/8oz Shakey Head rod to be fished with a 4.5" straight trail Roboworm.
I am familiar with JDM golf equipment so Megabass looks interesting. Does anyone have any experience of either of these beauties;
Destroyer Orochi X4 6'10" Aaron Martens Limited
Destroyer Phase 3 6'10" Aaron Martens Limited
Orochi XX Spinning Rod Megabass 7' Megabass Med Shakey
Call DVT! Lol
I got a good deal and a used G Loomis NRX 822S SYRso the search is over
Call Siebert! Lol

No really his Zenith heads are awesome. Let us know how the rod works out for you. Congrats

The thing I like about this blank is the combination of light, sensative tip and tons of backbone to move 'em after you hook up.

I agree in the broadest sense, but the terms we use sometimes take on a more narrow meaning than the literal. When I say "shakey head", I'm talking about a finesse stand up jig head paired with a finesse worm, usually 4" with a pin tail. Of course there are endless variations just like there are with drop-shot etc.

I've yet to build on an MHX high mod blank. How does the sensitivity compare to some other brand's high end blanks?

Sensitivity is amongst the the best I've ever felt. You can feel everything the bait is doing and the slightest of bites.
I have the X4 Aaron. Marten with a twin power on it. Fantastic for 1/8 oz Shakyhead.On 6/9/2015 at 2:33 AM, Bass&PanMan said:I am familiar with JDM golf equipment so Megabass looks interesting. Does anyone have any experience of either of these beauties;

Also for casting the Cumulus paired with a Purple Pixy, stock. Excellent sensitivity.
The G Loomis NRX is just in a different class to the Avids I have been fishing. The balance and sensitivity is just so much better.
