How Many Have Said, "no More Spending."? 2024

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

How long were you able to hold out? I said those words after getting my Lews TP and Daiwa L&T. Didn't last long. Less than a month. Should know better than to watch the classifieds. Wound up buying 2 more reels and another rod, with the expectation of adding at least one more rod shortly. :cry4:

fishing user avatarthehooligan reply :

i can hold out until i have a few beers and surf ebay or TW, lol.

Thats funny right there!
fishing user avatartholmes reply :

Barring any breakage, I'm pretty well set for reels right now. Rods? I'd like to get a new deep crankbait rod, but the need isn't pressing.

As for lures, I never say "no more spending". It wouldn't last a week.

Tom

fishing user avatarBradH reply :

Yeah, I tried that. I was doing pretty good for 6 months until I stopped at a retailer a couple months ago that had 2 50e reels and 2 200E7s NIB for 125 each. They all went home with me. I don't even count the small purchases of cranks and plastics. Winter is the worst for me. I can go all summer without spending hardly anything but when the prices drop after Labor Day I get nuts. I don't need the latest & greatest so I'll hoard stuff on closeout.

fishing user avatarBusy reply :

Seems like I always buy myself something for fishing after Christmas and then have to sit there and look at it until Spring!!!

But usually all I have to do is look at my bank account and then the urge to buy something goes away! I'm getting pretty good at going to Cabela's and leaving with nothing. That place is like a McDonalds playplace for me.

fishing user avatarj.bruno reply :

Spend spend spend. You only live once right? Might as well spend your money on what you love. Better than spending it on drugs, alcohol. fast women, slow horses, or gasoline. As long as all your bills are paid, you got money in the bank, mammas happy, kids got diapers. Go a head right? lol

LOL!

I said what the OP said after purchasing a Lew's Tournament Speed spool. Then proceeded to buy 30 Siebert jigs, a Powell Max rod, a St. Croix LTB, 10 Rage Craw products, and I forgot to get baby rage's for my finesse jigs, so there goes another $50 order. And I figure I mind as well buy some northstar spinnerbaits so WTH, why not.

I think this forum needs a DISCLAIMER: Buyers Beware, buying fishing gear and tackle leads to a high risk of a phenomenon known as FISHOGEAROPHILIA. For short I use the term "FGD" (fishing gear disease). This psychological infatuation/condition has many common side effects, not limited to but including the following. Spousal anger, depleting bank account funds and obsessively refreshing the flea market on bassresource,

I also would like to add that one should never buy a higher quality rod and/or reel than what they are used to. It only worsens the condition.

fishing user avatarDave P reply :

It's lasted about 3 months, but I'm about to convince myself that I've gotta have a new dropshot rod.

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

Buy now, pay later. You cant take it with you right? Still got a couple more Shimanos I need to add to the arsenal.

yep. You know how many times I've been on one of the online sites just looking for something to buy and I tell myself that I already have it or I dont really need it? A LOT. But I still end up getting something. Its a must.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

I buy used, markdowns, sale items, model closeouts, and items from the flea markets. The way I figure it, If I would have paid full retail for my fishing stuff, I would have spent thousands more....So...technically...I am saving money. Right?

fishing user avatarQuillback reply :

The problem is, every time I'm happy with what I have as far as fishing gear, the tackle manufacturers come out with something new that I must have.

fishing user avatarKevinator1 reply :

I always think I'm set and then something I think is better comes out so I "have to have it" or I will probably never catch another fish. No wonder I won't be able to retire someday. OK. this time I'm done. Naaahhhhhhh...... I need some new rods.

fishing user avatarjerzeeD reply :

After purchasing a St Croix LTB and Avid, Along with A Pflueger Patriarch and 2 Medalists this season, I can say I am done this year with combos. I should be good on lures for the rest of the year too. Just got 6 more hudd swimbaits and my last plastics order for the year from Bass Pro should be here Friday. So no more spending.....for this season! Next year, who knows?

LOL said the same thing to my wife as well but I've held out pretty good so far but thinking a new rod and reel may make it into the arsenal pretty soon.

I buy the same way. As stated elsewhere, we are probably making money! A $300 rod for $75...shipped, a $250 reel for $144, a $200 reel for $98, a $160 rod for $85 shipped, etc., etc., etc. Rod I am looking at now is a $250 rod new, but lightly used for $110. Look at all the money I have saved already. Be right back after I check out a couple classifieds. :laugh5:

fishing user avatarSGT Rico reply :

Never! I might not have a nice pair of slacks in the closet, but my fishing gear is top notch...lol..

fishing user avatarJake P reply :

I am addicted to tackle. Mainly jigs as of recently. I keep ordering Jigs & trailers from TW and I dont necessarily "need" them. I always throw a KVD 1.5 or pack of Dingers or some lure or pack of plastics in the buggy at WalMart when were grocery shopping. We usually end up there once a week so it all adds up. I never tell myself or my wife no more. Tackle is a short term investment so I expect to have to replace it as needed. Rods/ Reels on the other hand I expect to last a while so the only time I really buy is if something breaks. It is part of the fun though, isnt it? I love having more tackle then I need. The more I buy the more I understand people who hoard lol.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I already have way way more than I need, I could easily get by with half the gear. Money has never burned a hole in my pocket, I have always been a saver and investor. To me buying a $250 rod for a $100 is not saving $150, it's spending a $100 if I don't need it, plus I'd need a new reel and line. If what I'm already using is in good shape, catching fish and enjoying it, no real point to buy anything just to match what I'm already doing.

fishing user avatarloodkop reply :

I have said it once..... Easily the worst 2 hours of my life.

fishing user avatar*Hootie reply :

Sure, I've said it, but I lie a lot.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I'll be OK for a couple of months and then I go on a buying binge. Usually its jigs, trailers, and line.

fishing user avatarmikeeasttn reply :

I say it all the time but the UPS and Fed Ex men know me personally.
