Looks like I'm not the first to vote but I'm the first to respond. I voted baitcaster cause I think ultimately I'd have less trouble from one of those over a spinning reel per advantages it offers. No line twist, strong reel, comfortable to use. Just I would have trouble throwing extremely light baits, but even some of the nicer casting reels I've heard can overcome that. I believe it since the BPS Extreme I have has outcasted every other casting reel I've ever owned. They weren't the best reels though, all at or under $60 except for one of the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur reels which was about $20 more.

I think I could learn to throw a weightless worm on a casting reel if I had to. I will continue to use spinning reels for this though since it is the obvious choice, but line twist alone would make that type of reel not desirable for my ONLY reel.

No line twists, better casting accuracy, and I feel that I have better control when "fish on".

Besides that, I have more patience getting a backlash out than I do when I end up with my line all tangled up on a spinning reel.

baitcasting for sure. once you get the hang of it, it becomes almost second nature. not to say spinning are not good, but they all have certain niches they fill.

I'm a baitcaster fan as well. I own 2 spinning rods and I think I might have thrown them 3 times... basically for drop shotting which I have yet to make myself stick with.

I've got 2 Daiwa Vientos and those things have never let me down... Hardly ever do I have any backlashes, and they reel and cast with ease.

I voted baitcaster. I could throw finesse baits on a baitcaster if I had to, but wouldn't want to fish deep cranks, large spinnerbaits, buzzbaits 1/2 oz jigs ( the list goes on and on) with a spinning outfit. I wouldn't want to get rid of my spinning reels, but they do only fill certain roles for me.

I fish both, but have a strong preference for one over the other

when fishing various techniques. Since I fish more soft plastics

than anything else, I voted for spinning tackler, but I would hate

to give up my baitcasters!

Plus I do deep vertical jigging in the winter and FnF. Baitcasters are worthless for those applications.

Spinning, hands down. I love my Revo...but I have more accuracy and distance with my spinning reels. I also love to skip plastics under overhangs and docks...much easier for me with a nice spinning set up.

Love 'em both but I don't have a torn up finger after using a baitcaster as I do with my spinning reels.

I use my finger to feel the line and to cast so my first finger on my right hand takes a beating.

Each has it's own advantages and disadvantages and it depends on how you like to fish as to which one you will prefer.

Has to be a baitcaster. Unlike some I cast more accurately and with more distance then a spinning reel. Use both but I would stick with a baitcaster.

Voted baitcaster. Haven't fished spinning gear very long at all compared to baitcasting. My accuracy is better on baitcaster and most of the techniques I use are more suited to it. After saying all that, would hate to give up my spinning outfit...

Spinning, because that's how I start and where I'm [still] most comfortable. 2500 size for almost any freshwater situation.

Since you stated one type and not one reel, spinning gets my vote. Spinning is much more versatile than baitcasting. with spinning, you can get reels in diffrent sizes that can cast lures from 1/64 to as heavy as you want to go, not so with baitcasters. However, I use baitcasters 90% of the time for Bass and would hate not to have them available. But if only one type of reel was available, I would have to choose spinning.

I would go with baitcasters. I think with the right rod/reel/line setup I could cast almost any llure I needed to for most fishing appilcations (except extremely light stuff, but I don't fish that stuff anyway)

BCs for me. I fish a lot of cover, and heavy stuff. So it's a no brainer. Plus I just like BCs a TON more. But spinning still have their place.

I have used both for years, even before freespool baitcasters.

If I had to choose one though it would be the spinning reel because of the versatility it has. With the right rod and reel combinations you can fish for anyting from bluegill to tuna and beyond.

I love my baitcasters, but they just aren't as versatile, especially in extreme finess situations.

I picked my baitcasters. Usually I've got those in my hands about 80% of the time. Pretty much can do anything with them that I can my spinning stuff so skipping is almost no longer an issue. I might have to pick up another 1 or 2 a little more suited to the smaller plastics.

I would miss my spinning stuff because throwing a trick worm just doesn't work aswell on a baitcaster.

Spinning. I've never had much luck casting weightless plastics with a baitcaster and I wouldn't even attempt to flip live crickets on #6 hooks with anything but a spinning reel.

The ability to easily swap spools is another big plus. I can go from flouro to mono to braid in about a minute, maybe less.

I cast farther and with better accuracy using my spinning setups. That may be due to the fact that I spend more time with a spinning rig in my hand than a baitcaster, though.
