Braid on spinning reels opinions 2025

fishing user avatarFishinTN reply :

I'm thinking of trying some braid on 1 of my spinning reels. Whats some opinions on that. I assume there isn't much issue of memory. Considering spiderwire ultracast (invisibraid and a new one that sinks like fluro?) Fireline crystal, and maybe the new suffix 832.

fishing user avatarSoFlaBassAddict reply :

Got it on my spinning reels.  Love it.

fishing user avatarFishinTN reply :

Umm, got what on your spinning reels?? ;D

fishing user avatarSoFlaBassAddict reply :

Braid.

Didn't realize you were looking for specifics.  20lb Power Pro.  Never had an issue with it.

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

I use pretty much nothing but spinning reels, and nothing but braid, for everything from Bluegills to Sturgeon. (often on the same rod :()

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarI.rar reply :

got braid on both of mine. 20/6 power pro on my abu 602 and fireline braid 20/6 on the abu 801. i love it also.

fishing user avatarBASSclary reply :

I like Sufix Performance braid 20 or 30 lb.

fishing user avatartjc76 reply :

30 lb powerpro on my spinning reels.  love it.

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

I use only superline on the couple dozen spinning reels and several spincasting reels I have.

I use the limpest lines on spinning and the stiffer lines on spincasting.

fishing user avatarjdw174 reply :

I use 20lb Spiderwire Stealth or PowerPro 20lb on most of my reels including spinning.  No negatives so far.  I use co-poly leader joined with the double-uni knot.

fishing user avatarBurke reply :

All of My Spinning/Casting have braid line

Stren - 14 lbs braid (Green/Clear)

Western Filament Tuf Line XP (20 lbs) (green)

but I use the Stern Tough Knot (Clear) for the leader with the swivel :(

fishing user avatarSeanW reply :

Im not much for braid on spinning gear. All my spinning reels are spooled with 6 lb or 8lb 100% fluorocarbon. The only time I may add braid is in the spring time. Ive done this several times but find Id rather fish the baitcaster. I only use it for throwing trick  worms a long ways in spring. I really believe I get more bites on fluorocarbon. I will also keep a couple of 40 series spinning reels on hand just in case I wanna throw heavier line on a spinning reel, which is rare, when I can just use a bait caster

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

20lb Power Pro on my spinning reels, 55lb Samuari on my baitcasters.

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

Hey Burke, so that Fireline is actually braided now ?

A good fishing buddy and I used to totally rip on Fireline.... about how it was stiff and crinkly, and resembled dental floss :( We use to call it Fired Line ;)

However, the stuff we hated was "fused" rather than "braided".

If this new stuff is actually braided Spectra, I'm sure it wouldn't be bad.... certainly better than rubberband.... I'm sorry, I meant to say mono-filament. Anyway, same thing :)

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarLcomfort reply :

I wouldnt go anything less then 20/6 on a spinning reel so you dont have to many wind knots. I dont use spinning reels because I have bait casters that can go low and handle the really light stuff but I do use a spinning reel when Im skipping lures under over hangs and what not even tho I use a bait caster to skip most of the time. Just dont go to thin on the braid and you should be just fine.

fishing user avatarFlipsk828 reply :

Finesse fishing in heavy cover is perfect for braid on spinning rods. Personally I've never tried it but I've been on boats and watch guys pulled 3lbers outta of the think stuff with braid on spinning reels.

fishing user avatarPa Angler reply :

I use nothing but braid on my spinning reels. 20lb test is the norm although I use a 2lb dia. on my ultralight reel I don't use casting reels. On trolling rods I'll use 30lb to 50lb test braid.

fishing user avatarSeanW reply :

Chris,

Fireline has several options these days.

fishing user avatarSherlock 60 reply :

I use 20/6 PowerPro on a spinning reel for all my soft plastics (except tubes). And I have been considing using 2# diameter PP for my ultra-light fishing.

fishing user avatarlightsout reply :

Braid is the ONLY line I use on spinning reels. Power pro 15/4 or 20/6. I've caught huge fish on the 15 and even been drug through heavy cover with 0 breakoffs.

I hate wind knots and very rarely get them with braid. Manageability and durability are my favorite benefits. The sensitivity, strength, and casting distance are just icing on the cake.

fishing user avatarDerek Chance reply :

I did this last year with all my spinning rigs and love it. I won't go back to fighting with fluoro/mono on spinning reels. I tie a fluoro leader with a uni to uni knot.

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

i use 20lb Power Pro on one of my set ups and have had no problems.

fishing user avatarChiCityBasser reply :

I have 20# Power Pro on a couple of my spinning setups with no problems

fishing user avatarGrizzerGreen reply :

Spiderwire Stealth in moss green

Best line Ive ever used.

Incredibaly smooth off the spool and is just a great line.

I honestly think its better than Power Pro.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

I also use 20# Power Pro on my 2 6' 6" MH spinning rods.

Since I'm a co -angler, and have to bring everything with me, I rig one for weightless plastic and the other weighted.

I use a 20# floro leader for both.

Mike
