Megabass Orochi Xx 2025

fishing user avatarDelcoSol reply :

Anyone have any experience with these rods? I have been reading rave reviews and am debating on getting one, the only problem is I don't know which one will suit my needs. I am looking for kind of an all purpose rod mainly for t-rigs, spinnerbaits and chatter baits. Also I see that these are micro guide rods but do not appear to be in the league of Duckett guides. Would running braid with a leader be an issue? Thanks guys

Frank

fishing user avatarmasterbass reply :

I think spinnerbait special or emtf.  I run leaders through the guides no problem.

fishing user avatarmasterbass reply :

Or you could wait a few months for the diablo like me.

fishing user avatarDelcoSol reply :

Have you fished the XX? If so what are your thoughts?

fishing user avatarmasterbass reply :

I have a perfect pitch.  It is a very balanced, sensitive rod.  The rod is really cool looking, very exotic.  The full cork handle is kind of plain, but I don't mind.  The reel seat is very comfortable.  I use it for pitching and casting jigs/t rigs 1/2 and up.  I also plan to use it for mob flash a rig.  I would love to have a full arsenal of this line.  My next purchase will more than likely be a diablo.

Best bet would be to get in touch with Gary Wood at the Tackletrap. They are an authorized Megabass dealer with warranty support should you need it. He has extensively fished all the models and would steer you in the right direction. My EMTF and shakeyhead rod are simply the best rods I have used at $300 price point. Really it will depend upon the weights of the baits you intend on using, cover, and preferred rod length. The EMTF, Tour Versatile, or Spinnerbait special could all work. Also search the tackletour archives for their reviews or the rods from that series.

fishing user avatarTywithay reply :

I have the Extreme Mission and Spinnerbait Special. They're very nice rods. You won't find much better for the money. If you keep an eye out for deals, you can find lightly used ones for good prices. I got my spinnerbait special for $200.

fishing user avatarDrewski73 reply :

I bought a Perfect Pitch to pitch 1/2 oz jigs with. With 65lb braid and 17lb flouro, using an alberto knot, pitching is impossible. Hangs up more than 50% of the time in the guides. That being said, I love the rod too much to sell, so it has become my frog rod/straight braid jig rod.

Its a great rod imo. As good as my DX's in these hands.

fishing user avatar21farms reply :

sounds like either the spinnerbait special or the upcoming diablo spec-R is what you're looking for. i have four of the orochi XX rods (so far) and love 'em. the guides are bigger than true micros.

fishing user avatarDelcoSol reply :

Thanks for the replies guys. I wish somewhere near me had them so I can get my hands on it. I plan to run 30lb braid and a 12lb leader as long as it will fit. I really want to run a braid/fluoro combo so if I can't use this with the micro guides it will be a deal breaker to me.

fishing user avatarDrewski73 reply :

I used mine with 50lb braid and 15lb flouro and it worked MUCH better. With 30 and 12 I think youll be ok with an Alberto knot.

Do you have any pics of the XX guides vs the DX?

fishing user avatarrangerjockey reply :

I have the flat side special, use it for 5/16-3/8 jigs, spinnerbaits, walking baits like the spook jr. and dog x. Really good wart rod as well .I use it with 11lb.Defier and do most anything with it.

Those guides may very well be a deal breaker for you.  Call Gary or email him & ask what he thinks regarding your line size & connecting knot.

Thanks Dwight. I have contacted Gary and am waiting for him to reply. Have you seen these guides in comparison to a Duckett?

fishing user avatarthehooligan reply :

They're quite a bit bigger than the Duckett guides.

No I have not. But in talking to Gary I felt the guides might be a problem for my leader knots. I went with a different rod.

fishing user avatarTHE_Vue's reply :

ducket true micro's, xx semi micro but smaller then the macro's size you see on helium3.  If you ever seen the klx rods they are about the same guides as the xx in sizes

fishing user avatarDelcoSol reply :

Well guys, I talked to Gary at TTT and he was super helpful. I pulled the trigger on the on the spinnerbait special and a Curado I. I am going to pair it with a Core 50 or the Curado. I will let you know what I think. Thanks again for the input.

Please post your review when you get the rod!  I know these have been popular since their release!

fishing user avatarSenkoGuru reply :

I'm interested in a review too. Let us know what you think.

fishing user avatarDelcoSol reply :

Will do. If anyone has questions contact Gary at The tackle Trap.He has first hand experience fishing these rods. I was going to get a Dobyns DX 703/743 but he talked me into the Megabass so time will tell. Now I just have to explain another rod tube to the wife..

fishing user avatarthehooligan reply :

Nice, either one of those reels will pair nice with that rod. The curado will look really nice on it.

fishing user avatarDelcoSol reply :

Well guys I got to play around with the rod a little yesterday. My first impressions upon opening the rod from its included case is that it was very light. I got to fish it with my Metanium yesterday because I didn't have time to spool the new Curado. The Metanium has 30# 832 braid and a 12# fluoro leader using the alberto knot. I had zero issue with the guides and the knot. They are nowhere near the size of the Duckett and are about the same as the Veritas micro guide I used to have. The rod balanced very well with the reel, so much so that I am not sure if i will put my Core on it or not. It was lighter than my buddy's DX702 with an Adelbaran BFS for reference.  All day I threw 1/2 oz chatterbaits and spinnerbaits and it worked well. The rod loads up great while casting and I was able to get great distance. The rod was as if not more sensitive than my DX744. It was very aparent when running the spinnerbait along a rocky bottom and through grass. Unfortunatly the fish were not cooperating so I will have to add more on the review when I break it in with some fish. The rod is definatly worth checking out if you're in the market for one. I am curious how the Jig rod would compare to my DX744.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

I have champion extremes and 2 Orochi xx rods. In my hands the Orochi XX rods are more sensitive. The difference isn't huge but enough to where it is noticeable with jigs and other bottom contact baits. I have had and fished the rods for 1-2 years all together so I feel fairly confident in my findings. Balance is equal between the two. Both series of rods are among my personal favorites and will not be going anywhere soon.

Glad you enjoy the new rod. After tossing a jig on both with the same line I would be interested to know your thoughts.
