KastKing Super Power is pretty much the only braid I use right now, have it on over a dozen setups. The exception would be the two rods I have spooled with Seaguar Flipping Braid.

A wise man ( @NHBull ) steered me to Sufix 832 braid and for me it provides everything I require for my fishing. In my opinion, it seems to be stronger (or at least more resistant to failure due to kinks from my backlashes) than two other lines (Power-Pro and Spiderwire) that I tried. It also seems supple and more fade-resistant than the other two. I would say the Spiderwire would be a close second for me. You’ll get a lot of opinions on this and ... guess what? At some point you have to decide for yourself how far you want to go in the line selection process to decide which line you prefer. I tried three affordable alternatives and settled on one. And as long as I have no problems, I’ve vowed not to try any more braids. So there, Bait Monkey!!! Good luck!

Sufix 832 Advanced Superline with Gore performance fibers hands down for me. I was given a spool of it a while back and it's all I use now. In my opinion it's a very good braided line and I don't have any problems with it. ????

My preference has more to do with number of strands. I prefer 8 strands for my braid. 832, slick 8 and j-8 are all spooled on my various reels. Just received some of the Kastking superpower braid with a reel purchase. It's a 4 strand, I will put it on one of my spinning setups as a test once old man winter leaves.

I use berkley trilene professional braid more than anything else. I also have reels spooled with daiwa samurai, maxcurato, j braid 8, original powerpro and something else that i cant remember the name of

I switched from PowerPro over to the PowerPro Super Slick last season with great results. I had pretty much no issues with it. No wind knots, no spool jumping and no slipping knots despite fishing in pretty rough and windy conditions mostly.

I'm a fan of it, but I've also never used the other popular answers on here. With fishing gear and tackle, I'm constantly trying "this over that" and "thing B ove thing A" so i decided to just use PP Super Slick for fun and not try a few other brands and spend a bunch of $$$ and I've been pretty content with the results.

Used original PowerPro for years, and really liked it....until I used Seaguar Kanzen. I switched immediately because it handled so much better. Then Seaguar Smackdown came out and, WOW, what a difference! I've been a fan ever since. Very smooth and extremely strong. Doesn't fade over time either. Great knot strength and handles great!

Same here. Super Power all the way for me. I used to use Spiderwire and Power pro.

If you compare breaking strength to diameter (actual, not the published one) seaguar smackdown is among the best readily available. Keep in mind most braids break far above advertised and this is not really to your advantage.

For example take sufix 832, a popular braid. You might buy 20lb test for a spinning reel for finesse applications. What you might not realize is that 20lb sufix breaks at over 40lbs and has a diameter to match. It’s best to choose based off diameter rather than breaking strength, which is grossly understated.

Like most things...there really isn't a best because it's going to depend a lot on what you're trying to do and what you like.

All the top end braids are very good...but despite that, I keep coming back to Suffix 832 for a lot of my rigs because it sinks and because it comes in the bright green I like to use for line watching.

I'm not wild about spider wire...which is more of a tactile thing for me...I don't like the way it feels. I didn't care for the way Gliss looked after a season...it looked fraid and fuzzy...never had a break off, but the look didn't inspire confidence.

I tend to use mostly Suffix 832, with some PowerPro (thought that is mostly getting replaced with PowerPro Slick 8) and I have a couple reels spooled with Smackdown and I have no complaints with that either. I have a spool of Max Cuatro ready to go for when I either buy a new reel or some of the older braid needs replacing...but since I use leaders almost 100%, replacing braid because it's worn just doesn't happen for me very often. I have reels going on 5 seasons with the original braid.

Couple other useful thoughts:

As noted above, I use leaders almost exclusively for two reasons:
1. Toothy fish shred braid.
2. Abrasive structure (mostly rocks around here) nicks braid.
I look at braid a little differently than most fishermen as break strength is not my key criteria, rather I use line diameter.
1. If a reel is in its sweet spot with 125 yards of 12 lb. mono, I'm typically going to spool it with braid that has the same diameter as 12 lb. mono, or close.
2. I'm not going to go down to something close to 12 lb. braid as I don't want 300+ yards of braid on my reel because:
  1. No freshwater fish I'm going to chase is going to take out that much line, and
  2. There's no reason to incur the expense for at least 2x the line...probably more...and there's zero reason to me to waste time spooling the reel 1/2 way up with mono either...really...why bother?
3. Another reason I don't like this braid is that it cuts my fingers...on the other hand, it makes decent floss for when a little piece of that chicken drumstick I ate for lunch gets stuck in my teeth...

Only about 20% of my rods have braid on them, but they’re all 832. I’ve never had an issue with it and a couple rods have had the same line on for about 3 years now. Can’t go wrong with it.

I would posit that at some point, "super thin" becomes a problem rather than a "feature".

As noted above, I avoid thin braids because that stuff cuts my fingers...but makes good floss...

Diameter impacts casting distance...but at what point does that cease to matter?

Accuracy is negatively impacted by distance...a variation of 1/16" of rod tip position = 1" at 16 yards...basic shotgun shooter's math for center of pattern there...I would challenge that anyone can average better than 2", over 10 tries, given wind, pitching decks, etc...so call that 2 * 16 = 32"...run that out to 50 yards (3.125x 16) and we're at about 100" (8ft. 4") off. That'll put me well past the other side of the dock I'm casting at, dunno about you....and reality is waaaay worse than that.

I've used TCB8 quite a bit, the yellow is better then the green, it does not flake like the green does.

It would be my go to braid if they made yellow in 10lb

Its better then 832 IMO and its super strong...

I've tried several brands and both 4 and 8 carrier.

I keep going back to the old 4 carrier power pro.....except on spinning reels I use the power pro super slick 8. By far the best braid for spinning reels I've used.

The only suffix I use anymore is there mono the suffix siege is great.

@Glenn what is the smallest lb braid you would recommend going on a baitcaster reel. I’ve heard you shouldn’t go to small of a diameter and I know smackdown is smaller than other braid. What lb test would you recommend of seaguar smackdown? Thanks

Power Pro original in Yellow. On every setup, both casting and spinning except one, which has straight fluoro.

I've never had one issue with so I never changed.

Casting I don't go below 30lb, spinning I use 8-15lb.

Casting, 30lb is about the min I go with. I prefer 50lb on baitcasting.

20lb Smackdown works great on spinning. Casts really well.

Power pro has worked for the last 2 seasons so I don’t really have a reason to change it up at the moment. I am interested in possibly trying the kast king stuff based solely on price. I change all my lines on my poles at the beginning of the year. I feel it’s cheap insurance and I use cheap mono for a backer so I’m only putting on 75-100 yards max.
I use 30 lbs pp for a regular t-rigging 65 lbs pp for slop/punching rod. Both spinning rods atm I have 10 lbs hi-viz (yellow) pp rigged up. However, the light action rod I’m swapping it out for flouro to throw size 5-6 shad raps

I have used 8 lbs spider wire stealth for t-rigs and other fineness stuff on the one spinning rod. It worked fine I only swapped it to pp hi-viz just for line watching reasons

Seaguar Smackdown has grown on me. If you are more budget minded, the P-Line TCB is pretty darn good. Of course, Power Pro has a great track record. Noisy stuff though.
