Sorry to hear that.

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

Sorry to hear this buddy. I'll keep my eyes peeled around the Marietta area....

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

Wow, man. Serious bummer.

Hope everything can be recovered in
your favor.

fishing user avatarTim S. reply :

If it showed up on the web, you can contact your local sheriff's office and file a report. Give them a description of the stuff and a link to the pawn shop's website. They will have all the info on the person who pawned the items, probably a thumb print, too. I hope you recover your stuff. I HATE a thief!:cussing:

fishing user avatarBrnnoser6983 reply :

What a horrible thing. Make sure to check Craigslist to.

fishing user avatarzachb34 reply :

Check craigslist, Ebay, and all local pawn shops and make reports if you see your stuff. There's a new app out called "offer up" where people sell used items. I'd check that as well.

fishing user avatarSoardo reply :

Yeah filed a report right away and am monitoring those outlets. Five reels showed on eBay Tuesday from Dawsonville Gun and Pawn.  Going there to see what else may show.

fishing user avatarjbw252 reply :

Oh man, sorry (and sick) to hear of this. Hope things work out on a positive note. Good luck.

Please keep us informed about this situation. I was actually watching some of those reels on ebay, but I would not want to purchase a stolen reel.

Some of those Quantum and Browning reels were all made by the same Korean manufacturer and the brass gears from those older reels can be used in other reels to speed them up or slow them down. I snap them up when I can get them for a good price.

Some of those reels were smooth reliable old reels, but to me they were made a little too large to palm well, and the particular graphite used for the frames of those reels was brittle and known to crack and break especially the pivot for the flipping switch is a molded extension off the main frame and it would often just snap off.

But those gears... those brass gears at those slower speeds! That is where it is at for me to buy up those reels.

I have an old round reel also made in Korea that is a copy cat knock off of a shimano calcutta that I use for salt water fishing mostly. It has more bearings than the Calcutta and is every bit as smooth as a calcutta. I have read reviews from others who say they like this copy cat knock off better than the original. I call it my frankenstein reel because parts have not been available for it for decades so I keep it repaired and maintained and modified by using parts from other Korean reels like these Quantums and Browning reels. So that is why I have been watching the very same reels you mentioned above and why I would like to know if these are some of those stolen from you because I would not bid on them if they are.

fishing user avatarSoardo reply :

The odds of five of those reels showing up at the same time right after my unit was broken into only ten miles away seems pretty obvious.

fishing user avatarTxHawgs reply :

Dam dude, I really feel for ya man that's explicit word up. And u my man don't look like someone I would want to have to tango with if I didn't have too lol. I really hope u catch the POS or get all or some of your stuff back. If no other storage rooms were broken into then u were targeted, meaning someone was casing the place, or its someone that knows you. Man I wish there was somethin I could do to help man but I'm not even workin and have been selling rods to pay bills. I will send u a friend request I have some plastics and spinnerbaits I'm willing to send ya man. It's not much but it's something to help ya get back on the water. Take care bro.

fishing user avatarSoardo reply :

Thanks for the kind words guys. On the bright side I guess I'll be shopping for new toys. May take a while but have to look on the bright side.

fishing user avatarItsTig reply :

So sorry to see this, absolutely awful. This is so disgusting, I can't even begin to imagine how sick this has made you. Good luck recovering all or at least some of your property. The worst part is the irreplaceable family items, very sad. I don't have anywhere near what you have/had, but I would be happy to send a bait care package your way if you want to shoot me a pm or leave an address here. Good luck.

fishing user avatarSoardo reply :

That's a really awesome offer thank you. I'm fortunate that I make a good living and the gear can be replaced in time (well maybe a third of it which is a little more normal lol).

You are right...things that were personal mean much more. That's the hardest part.

Thanks again!

fishing user avatarHoosierHawgs reply :

I don't know much about insurance laws.. Since this was stolen from a storage unit, is it not covered by any insurance? Did the particular storage unit have some type of theft insurance or clause? Might be worth looking into.

fishing user avatarSoardo reply :

Homeowners should cover some but not all. The facility will be useless. I had only recently put my fishing gear there and planned to pull it back out this week.  Thus I didn't get extra insurance which is a mistake.

That is a bummer. I hope that it ends out right.

fishing user avatarJosh Smith reply :

So, did the cops retrieve the reels and thief's description from the pawn shop?

Regards,

Josh

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

This is when you bid and win one of the stolen reels to get an email/address/name of the person who stole your stuff.  Then it's decision time on how you want to handle it from there.

fishing user avatarSoardo reply :

Dawsonville Gun and Pawn is closed until Mondsy. That's where I start. Police have a roster of what was lost. Fingers crossed.

fishing user avatarChris at Tech reply :

Sorry to hear!

Did you also post in the Georgia Outdoor Network forum?  If not, I'd suggest you do.

fishing user avatarSoardo reply :

Thought about that earlier and plan to. Thanks man!

fishing user avatarchriwkbrd reply :

Sorry, missed where it was already mentioned.

Hey, make sure you post over at the GON forum as well. You'll definitely get a lot more locals seeing your post. Good luck and I'll keep my eye out for any of your stuff.

All those reels the Dawsonville pawn shop had on ebay have all been removed from ebay as of this morning.

So hopefully the police can use the identity information from the pawn shop to track down the thief or thieves who stole them.

fishing user avatarSoardo reply :

Yeah hopefully.

fishing user avatarFloridaFishinFool reply :

The Dawsonville Pawn shop has now relisted all 4 of the reels today on ebay. People were bidding on these reels over this past weekend until they were removed from ebay this morning- I assume when police arrived at the pawn shop asking questions, and by 12 o'clock noon today all 4 reels have been relisted on ebay again:

Are you saying that these reels being sold on ebay by the Dawsonville Gun and Pawn store are some of yours that were stolen?

If they are a part of a felony grand theft criminal case, then why didn't the police seize them as evidence?

I understand that you have to provide proof of ownership, and this brings up the issue of rods and reels NOT having serial numbers on them. But, for that pawn shop to be able to keep your stolen reels and resell them legally shows that there are some serious problems with the laws at least in the state of Georgia.

Here in Florida I would consider what that pawn shop is doing as dealing in stolen merchandise- fencing it- if those are indeed some of your stolen reels. It should be the pawn shop who takes the financial hit for actually buying stolen merchandise. And, they should not be allowed to keep possession of any stolen property and resell any of it.

This is not how our justice system should work in this country. The laws should favor the citizen, the laws should favor he who lost his items in the commission of a crime. The laws should not protect businesses dealing in stolen property and let them resell stolen property to get their money back.

If this is the case up there in Georgia, I would be contacting some state representatives and try and have the law changed- assuming of course that those are in fact some of your stolen reels.

I wonder if it were a stolen gun would the police still allow the pawn shop to keep stolen property for resale? This makes no sense to me, but it does show how big businesses can gang up on we the people and pay off politicians to write the laws in their favor. Happens all the time in this country. Justice seems to go to he who has the most money and influence.

I wonder if you can contact a lawyer and sue Dawsonville Gun and Pawn? Surely there are some emotional damage compensation issues here!

LOL slow your roll man....  don't fight ignorance with ignorance.

fishing user avatarSoardo reply :

To your point there are no serial numbers. I can't prove a thing. The odds of four reels showing up at once there matching those on my list are slim plus they have some baits in containers that clearly match those I use. The thieves missed a couple and I have pictures showing the match but again I can't prove anything.

Once they caught wind of things I'm sure the rest of the items are buried somewhere and without a warrant there won't be any search.

I will be marking my items in unique manners going forward. Sad that one has to obsess about being stolen from.

I have learned something from this post. From here on out I will be putting a serial number of my own on each caster I own. Maybe under the spool of a spinner or inside a side plate of a caster. But it will be unique and a identifying mark.

Yep exactly I've already started with the video and photos.
