I am a Food Saver V4400 model user, and each machine can really make or break how well a bag functions. This is based solely on my experience with my machine. It's a traditional vacuum machine, not a chamber machine. The V4400 lets me use rolls, however these rolls are too thick to actually go into the machine so I have to use them on the counter on a dowel and roll off as much bag as I want to use. Still, I am able to bottom up feed the bag through my machine to spool off a length and use the onboard cutter to cut off a piece of bag. This is great because trying to cut these with scissors yielded less than desirable cuts.
The inside texture of the bag is what allows the machine to vacuum seal. The texture is decently thick and feels similar to OEM bags, but somewhat less textured. It doesn't seem to really impact the seal, and the machine pulls a similar length of time when sealing. What I do notice is that with this longer roll, there are occasionally crinkles, bubbles, or oopsies in the roll. When I get to these places, the machine will glitch and continue to try to seal but never get a complete vacuum so it can seal properly. Most of the time when I release, pull the bag tightly, and try again it fixes itself. Sometimes, I have to scrap it and cut a new length.
As far as the seal goes, I haven't had any issues with bags coming undone. I do do a double seal with my machine, though. First, I place a bag in far back and wait for the machine to sense and seal. Then, I put the bag back in, wait for it to be sensed, and pull it back out towards myself so the machine captures just part of it to get a secondary seal. On a manual machine, this is much easier. Mine runs with a sensor. This hasn't caused any failures, and lets me have a second seal just in case one does break loose.
In the freezer, these work great. I solely use them for freezing and a vacuum seal for frozen items. My freezer hard freezes down to about -10 F, but they're supposed to be fine down to -22. The bags are easy to write on, and the 100 feet at just $19.99 makes these much lower per foot than OEM bags. They're worth getting for me for the cost savings, and the ability to create my own bag size. Even if I allow extra length just in case, I still average out about 10 cent per bag, which is half the cost of OEM. On bags that are used for veggies, I put the empty bags back in the freezer so they can't grow any bacteria, save them up, then recycle for another use with produce. I haven't had any issues with scent or taste transfer. I put a mark on the bag so I know it's been reused already.
I loose an inch or so on the bag due to cutting open when I want to reuse it, but I can alleviate this by creating my bags slightly longer to begin with. So far, zero issues. I'll update if they lose seal after a length of time.
