I used Elechomes 85KPA Hands-Free Automatic Food Sealer for testing. All 3 brands of vacuum bags worked fine in this sealer, but one had downsides. I tested vacuum bags using 1/3 cup of ground coffee (see picture).
1. Elechomes (enclosed with Elechomes sealer):
They would be my preference, but their big downside is that they are much more expensive than the others. These are grooved on both top and bottom layers which may distort viewing the item in the bag (see picture). They seemed to be about 25% faster (10 seconds v. 13 seconds) to reach vacuum in my tests which is probably insignificant, but they were also by far the easiest to cut with a scissors. It is hard to measure the thickness of the plastic used in the bags because the plastic is always grooved or dimpled to aid in drawing a vacuum. I measured the compressed side seams using a digital caliper: Elechomes = 0.16 mm, but if measuring the misleading grooved thickness, then 0.22 mm.
2. KitchenFun:
They are my Best Value choice and had good cold tolerance (picture). Unfortunately, they came in a plastic bag instead of a box. These bags have a dimpled bottom layer with a clear top layer for better viewing (picture). They worked well in vacuum/seal testing and they were fairly easy to cut with a scissors. KitchenFun compressed side seam thickness = 0.18 but if measuring the misleading dimpled/grooved thickness, then 0.38 mm.
3. Werise:
These bags were also very economical, came in a box for easy storage and had a clear top side, but they had some downsides. 1) They are much harder to cut with a scissors, instead preferring to stretch and bind in the scissors. Maybe the manufacturer knows this since the package included a bonus razor cutter. 2) Unlike the other bags here, the side seams were easy to tear apart with just my fingers. I found this disturbing, but it didn’t seem to affect durability. 3) The manufacturer specs show the least cold tolerance (see picture). Werise compressed side seam thickness = 0.20 mm, and if measuring the misleading dimpled/grooved thickness, then 0.44 mm.
