Product Description
Kershaw’s Clearwater 9-inch fillet is perfect for filleting larger fish with ease. The blade is made of Japanese 420J2 stainless steel with the perfect degree of flex to make detailed jobs simple. This “softer” steel enables the blade to bend without breaking so it moves easily through the body of the fish, rendering the ideal fillet. It is also highly corrosion resistant for work in wet environments, without rust or buildup. The handle, made of co-polymer material, is durable, contoured for comfort and textured for tough grip that’s soft-yet-firm, making filleting even a large catch less fatiguing. Its neon green highlights make the handle easy to spot in a marine environment, while adding stylish contrast to the basic black handle. The 9-inch fillet’s handle design, with its central contour and hand protectors at both ends, fits the hand and locks in for extra-comfortable grip. The Kershaw 9-inch Clearwater Fillet locks into its own ABS sheath for secure storage or easy belt carry.

Product reviews of Kershaw Clearwater 9-In Fillet Knife (1259X) Fixed 420J2 High-Performance Stainless Steel Blade with Satin Finish, Black Textured Co-Polymer Handle with Neon-Green Detail and Included Sheath; 3.8 OZ
Stan McCord : Inferior materials used
The belt loop is made of inexpensive brittle plastic.
If you aren't in need of a belt loop......you MIGHT be OK with one of these. Otherwise?
Me? The belt loop crapped out on me immediately so I can't comment on the blade, sheath or handle.
As always.....Amazon returns policy continues to amaze.
Rob : Blade will not stay sharp.
A pretty good knife. It feels good in the hand and has a flexible blade but it won’t stay sharp at all. I filet a fish and have to sharpen it again. I sharpen after every fish.
REMI556 : Rusted quick
After first use it became rusty.
REMI556 : Rusted quick
After first use it became rusty.
Barnald Obamump : Take it from me
Very long. Blade become dull almost instantly and needed sharpening upon arrival. Spend the money for a better knife, I should’ve.
Peter Wesner : Love the sleeve for safety
Awessome fillet knife for the boat. Love the sleeve for safety!!
B.T.S. : Excellent long length fillet knife.
I was surprised at the low price on this fillet knife. I have a few Kershaw pocket knives that I really like so I was quick to jump on this deal. I needed a fillet knife that could handle the big boys and this does the trick. I was able to run the blade along a 20 lb blue cat and take off the fillet in one cut. It's pretty sharp out of the package but a few swipes across the diamond hone and it's a razor. 10/10, I would buy this knife again.
REMI556 : Rusted quick
After first use it became rusty.
Todd Richardson : Good, but too long for me.
The knife itself is good, but I shouldn't have gotten one so long. I use it to fillet fish and would definitely recommend something shorter, as it'd be much easier to navigate.
D & A Jones : Not bad!!
I thought the handle was a little cheezy for the kershaw brand but welcome to the new age where quality is out the door. Fairly nice knife tho and I own ALOT of kershaw knives..
Leslie Sisson : Extremely sharp right out of the package and regaining that exact edge after heavy use takes mere seconds on a diamond whetstone just like the Kershaws I used to carry
Yes, it will lightly rust if sheathed wet and left overnight. The small spots disappeared and stayed gone the day after its first use in the Gulf with near zero effort during post trip gear cleanup the next day. Leave knife out of sheath for both to dry and the rust stays gone. Extremely sharp right out of the package and regaining that exact edge after heavy use takes mere seconds on a diamond whetstone just like the Kershaws I used to carry.

LB : Good deal on a good knife
This is an excellent price for a quality knife. It is big and I used it to filet 2 red grouper with ease, right out of the package. It has a nice sheath and I am sure it will hold up well.

Jacque : Good stuff
Product worked great
mrtdrew : Excellent
Great large fillet knife with a serviceable sheath. Handle provides a confident grip.
Amazon Customer : Nice knife
I used this for making beef jerky, and it worked great. I was able to make thin strips so it worked out great.
GB Lowrey : Fillet Fantastic
The fillet knife is perfect for the "master chef", my husband. He says it makes cutting and slicing a breeze. He thoroughly enjoys using it in meal preparation. The price was more than reasonable for such a quality item.
REMI556 : Rusted quick
After first use it became rusty.
Rick : So Sharpe....So Easy To Use
This knife feels like I'm holding a razor blade that is 8" long! It is the real deal. Tonight I used it to separate baby back ribs and it was like cutting butter. This will be my next gift to friends. Great product
Jacque : Good stuff
Product worked great
Billy Pharris : Fillet knife
Does just what it’s suppose too do
Sandra O. : Easy to find
Love them
CaramelQT : Fillet Knife fave
Excellent product fillet knife. I use it often to remove skin from Salmon. The safety cover is approximate as it is very sharp.

Larry Vineski : Great knife, used it recently to filet some Pompano
Great knife, used it recently to filet some Pompano, sharp with just the right amount of flex to get the most out of each fish.
Aaron Garn : You should have seen the one that got away!
This is a good knife for the price, but not perfect. Also, I screwed up and bought a fillet knife more at home with a giant salon or something. Way too big for the small, pan fish I catch in the pond.
Jacque : Good stuff
Product worked great
Jack H. : The blade is 9 1/4" long with the perfect amount of flex to filet and skin 15 lb
For 12 bucks you can't go wrong. The blade is 9 1/4" long with the perfect amount of flex to filet and skin 15 lb. catfish in two steps. The handle is very ergonomic and has a slightly sticky grip even when wet or oily and has Kershaw engraved on one side and an undecipherable mark with 1259 on the other. The 1" x 2 1/4" belt loop will accommodate a 2" belt easily and is secured with one rivet which allows the sheath to pivot horizontally so both hands can be used to remove the blade in a controlled manner. I say that because the sheath has an interesting design element. There's no cumbersome system to fool with to either secure the knife to the sheath or to remove it. The molded hard plastic sheath has an internal knob that acts as a stop if choose to set the knife in the sheath (while on your belt) for easy removal while working or you can apply a small amount of downward pressure to seat the knife about a half inch further into the sheath which secures the knife very effectively. Removing the blade could be construed as provocative though if you pick the combo up off a table and separate the two as they jump apart due to the force the knob applies to secure the blade. A very affordable and useful tool for any fishing excursion.
James B Andersen II : Total junk!
This knife is terrible!!! Anyone that gives this knife a good review has never used a decent filet knife. Comes dull from the factory. I put a nice edge on it prior to using it for the first time (sharp enough to shave the hair in my arm). By the third rock cid it was too dull to cut through fish skin. I had to sharpen it over and over again to filet 30 fish. When I got home I put another good edge on it and gave it another try a week later (slow learner) and by the third fish it would not cut. I got frustrated and threw it out into the ocean. When I got home I did what I should have done in the first place and spent $65 on a 10” Gerber.
Mustang GT : Seems like a decent knife for the money
This is a decent knife for the money. Out of the box it is sharp BUT that edge didn't last at all. I am taking it to my sharpener to see if he can put a better edge on it. This isn't uncommon, even my more pricey Dexter's or Bubba blades have the same issue
PC Tech : Great knife, stays sharp!
The knife was a little dull whenever it arrived, I had read some other reviews complaining about the same thing so I ordered it together with a Lanskey 4 Stone Sharpening System. After a good 20° sharpening with the Lanskey, the knife is now razor sharp and cuts through any fish with ease. It does not need to be constantly sharpened in-between filleting jobs like the previous knife I was using.

Brandon R. : Super Sharp
This knife is perfect in all aspects: very sharp, just the right amount of flex, good size for a range of fish, and low cost. It will rust if you leave it all gross and fishy, but just wash and dry it and you will have no problems.
L in KS. : a bit underwelming.
This knife is made in China not the US, I do not think it holds its edge very well. It is flexible the handle does not slip in my hand while I am using it.
Dennis : Great quality.
Really good quality knife. Giftable is a strange rating as I am a chef and even my wife would not buy a knife for me.
Jackson Kahl : Extremely dull!!
Very dull knife out of the package, I personally don’t know how to sharpen knives. That is why I bought a new one, my old one was getting dull and this thing is even more dull and it’s new. Couldn’t even fillet 4 walleye with it. Very disappointed, I hope I got a defective one because I’ve always used Kershaw knives and this one is NOT up to par. It’s comfortable in the hand and has a nice sheath but if it can’t cut what’s it good for?
Larry Vineski : Great knife, used it recently to filet some Pompano
Great knife, used it recently to filet some Pompano, sharp with just the right amount of flex to get the most out of each fish.
Franklingtaylor : Never had a bad kershaw until now, I guess there is a first for everything
The heat treat must’ve been way off because it sharpen some places in other places it’s dull. When I go to sharpen it you can hear the nice hardened steel and then it gets to chalky spots where grips because the steel is soft. I thought it was just me and I had two other people try to sharpen this damn thing same issue with it . I’m extremely surprised as I have purchased many other Kershaw’s and have never gotten one like this . They are usually razor sharp out of the pack and maintain that edge very well. It’s always easy to put an edge back on a Kershaw but this thing is horrible. I stopped Filleting fish with it and turned it into a bait cutting knife but at this point I’m probably just going to destroy the thing because at some point I know either I or somebody else will cut themselves with it because of the dull spots and the excess pressure you need to cut things up .
michael : do not buy
plastic sheaths end broke and now it's dangerous-they say I'll have to but another one as they don't have a sheath for a replacement-buyer beware
Molly Kordick : It could be sharper and cheaper...
For the money I would expect more from Kershaw!
CheeseMouse : Razor sharp, good grip
This is a well-balanced, well-made filet knife. Like most, it's super lightweight, holds a very sharp edge and just glides through Salmon flesh. The handle is a tough and very grippy rubber. It comes with a stiff plastic sheath that protects the edge and point very well. I love this knife especially for the price!
Billy Pharris : Fillet knife
Does just what it’s suppose too do
LB : Good deal on a good knife
This is an excellent price for a quality knife. It is big and I used it to filet 2 red grouper with ease, right out of the package. It has a nice sheath and I am sure it will hold up well.
Richard Williamson : Great value and quality blade
Was just going to use this for cut bait but was to nice just to use it for that.
D'Lacey : Nice blade/handle. Easy to sharpen
Good solid blade. Nice comfortable handle. Not as flexible as I’d like but it still works quite nicely! Cheap plastic sheathe but it does it’s job.
Steve : Like a razor
This knife is razor sharp. From filleting fish to deboning a Boston butt, this knife cuts through it with ease. Comfortable to hold and non-slip. Nice, flexible blade.
