Product Description
Kershaw’s Clearwater 9-inch fillet is perfect for filleting larger fish with ease. The blade is made of Japanese 420J2 stainless steel with the perfect degree of flex to make detailed jobs simple. This “softer” steel enables the blade to bend without breaking so it moves easily through the body of the fish, rendering the ideal fillet. It is also highly corrosion resistant for work in wet environments, without rust or buildup. The handle, made of co-polymer material, is durable, contoured for comfort and textured for tough grip that’s soft-yet-firm, making filleting even a large catch less fatiguing. Its neon green highlights make the handle easy to spot in a marine environment, while adding stylish contrast to the basic black handle. The 9-inch fillet’s handle design, with its central contour and hand protectors at both ends, fits the hand and locks in for extra-comfortable grip. The Kershaw 9-inch Clearwater Fillet locks into its own ABS sheath for secure storage or easy belt carry.

Product reviews of Kershaw Clearwater 9-In Fillet Knife (1259X) Fixed 420J2 High-Performance Stainless Steel Blade with Satin Finish, Black Textured Co-Polymer Handle with Neon-Green Detail and Included Sheath; 3.8 OZ
jschm4_60 : It's OK, but...
I bought this to replace or augment my Rapala knife, which seems to loose an edge after a couple fish. The first use was amazing - cut through bones and skin with very little effort. Nice blade shape which allows for good maneuverability around rib cages. However, after the second use / batch of fish with this knife, I found that I needed to touch up the edge just as I did with the Rapala. I'll be looking for a shorter blade next, but I think I will avoid a Kershaw. I do like the handle / grip. It is much more comfortable than the wooden one on the Rapala and will not slip easily even when covered with fish slime.
CaramelQT : Fillet Knife fave
Excellent product fillet knife. I use it often to remove skin from Salmon. The safety cover is approximate as it is very sharp.
kj : NOT MADE IN USA...FALSE ADVERTISING
Only bought this knife because the 3rd bullet point says MADE IN USA...This knife not made in USA. Very disappointment...Made in China...of course. False advertising.
Amazon Customer : Very sharp!
I couldn't believe that as cheap as this was, that it was so sharp! My husband fishes & this knife is a great help to him.
DaCajun : Quality product and shipped quickly
It arrived sharp and it resharpens easily
Mustang GT : Seems like a decent knife for the money
This is a decent knife for the money. Out of the box it is sharp BUT that edge didn't last at all. I am taking it to my sharpener to see if he can put a better edge on it. This isn't uncommon, even my more pricey Dexter's or Bubba blades have the same issue
Nathan : I use it to skin large, fresh sides of ...
I use it to skin large, fresh sides of salmon for filet; few times a month, nothing of frequent repetition.
It's not razor sharp, but quite sharp enough for the task.
Fitment into the sheath is a bit clumsy, but it's on my kitchen knife bar, so not a concern for me.
Lw G. : Good knife
Good filet knife.
B. Stewart : Sharp and Lightweight
Very sharp and lightweight with flex. Excellent knife and the case keeps it protected.
Cd : Not sharp on first use
Given other reviewers, I expect this to be very sharp. Mine was not. Also one side was
Not beveled and sharpens as much as the other. On my first use I tore up a sea bass trying to filet it. I had to get out a
Wet stone and improved the edge.
JFree : Dull blade. Doesn't cut through salmon skin. Buy something else.
This is a cheaply manufactured product. The blade is dull to the touch. It does not cut salmon skin without pressing down hard on the fish and attempting to cut it 4-5x in a row.
I'm throwing mine away. Buy something else / better.
eskieme : Not the sharpest knife in the drawer
This knife has never been especially sharp. I don't typically filet fish, but it seems to me that the knife should be super sharp. I can hardly cut anything with this knife.
Taylor Weisel : sharp sharp sharp
love it. sharpest knife I have ever seen. I have owned several Kershaw. They are all as sharp as the day they were new.
Amazon Customer : Gabinos gift
Got for a gift for guide in baja.so hope it's good.looks good
Brandon M. : Rusted, brittle, broke, not true stainless steel!
Should’ve taken a picture of the knife. Used it on my boat for cutting fish after catching them. It started rusting pretty bad after a couple uses, to the point the edge was brittle and breaking. Definitely not true stainless steel.
Melany : Item as described, fast ship!
Son-in-law loved this gift. Fast ship.

michael : do not buy
plastic sheaths end broke and now it's dangerous-they say I'll have to but another one as they don't have a sheath for a replacement-buyer beware
GOBI S. : Awesome knife.
Really good filleting knife. Really sharp and good grip.
gjhartma : Beauty!
I bought this knife for dipnetting season in Alaska. I ended up getting my limit, but that meant that this knife had it's work cut out for it. It kept it's edge and cuts like butter. It's got a comfortable, easy to hold on to handle and the right amount of flex. I've only used it for a season so far, so I can't speak for it's longevity, but I expect that with proper care and maintenance, it'll last for years. I would recommend this knife to fishermen/fisherwomen out there who have some big salmon in the cooler!

Lisa WH : INCREDIBLE PRODUCT, High Quality, & Fast Shipping!
I am a HUGE Kershaw fan. I have 4 Kershaw pocket knives and I prefer them to the Buck, Gerber, and CKRT pocket knives that I own. Currently this is my highest quality/best Filet Knife that I own. When shopping I was considering getting a Bubba Blade or Gerber brand filet knife and I am glad I didn't because they were 2-4 times more expensive. I have filayed everything from crappie, to bass, to catfish with this knife and it is super sharp and the rubber grip makes it easy to use. 5 STARS, Highly Recommend this product!!!!

Graying.Geek : An excellent buy on a good knife
I bought this 7" Kershaw to replace its 9" big brother as a component of my take-along gear when I go bottom fishing. This is a good -- not great, good -- knife at an excellent price. The rubberized handle give it a solid feel, and the blade holds a good edge that can easily shave the hair on your arm. My only complaint about the knife is that the blade is a bit too narrow, making it overly flexible.
While the 9" Kershaw is of equal quality and feel, I found it too long to the point of being unwieldy, and the extra length amplified the flexible nature of the blade. The 7" is really the perfect length for a general use fillet knife.
Marshall Morrison : Super Smooth Cut!
So I got this knife because I was always messing up the skin side on my fish fillets. My dull kitchen knifes just took forever to skin a fish and it looked terrible after I was finished almost like someone took a weed wacker to my fish. Well after I got this fillet knife it was no longer a problem. This knife cuts fish as smooth as butter and its super long so you can cut up just about any size of fillet in one pass.
Jack H. : The blade is 9 1/4" long with the perfect amount of flex to filet and skin 15 lb
For 12 bucks you can't go wrong. The blade is 9 1/4" long with the perfect amount of flex to filet and skin 15 lb. catfish in two steps. The handle is very ergonomic and has a slightly sticky grip even when wet or oily and has Kershaw engraved on one side and an undecipherable mark with 1259 on the other. The 1" x 2 1/4" belt loop will accommodate a 2" belt easily and is secured with one rivet which allows the sheath to pivot horizontally so both hands can be used to remove the blade in a controlled manner. I say that because the sheath has an interesting design element. There's no cumbersome system to fool with to either secure the knife to the sheath or to remove it. The molded hard plastic sheath has an internal knob that acts as a stop if choose to set the knife in the sheath (while on your belt) for easy removal while working or you can apply a small amount of downward pressure to seat the knife about a half inch further into the sheath which secures the knife very effectively. Removing the blade could be construed as provocative though if you pick the combo up off a table and separate the two as they jump apart due to the force the knob applies to secure the blade. A very affordable and useful tool for any fishing excursion.
GB Lowrey : Fillet Fantastic
The fillet knife is perfect for the "master chef", my husband. He says it makes cutting and slicing a breeze. He thoroughly enjoys using it in meal preparation. The price was more than reasonable for such a quality item.
Dennis : Great quality.
Really good quality knife. Giftable is a strange rating as I am a chef and even my wife would not buy a knife for me.
Momma D : Nice knife but…
The knife is fine but the sheath is cheap plastic and the knife rattles inside it.
Guitar Player : Good Fillet Knife
This fillet knife is comfortable in my hand and the blade is easy to sharpen. I wanted a fillet knife with a somewhat flexible blade and a plastic sheath. The knife sort of clicks into the sheath so you know when it is in place. At first I thought the price was a bit high but more than I looked on Amazon, I decided to buy the Kershaw.
gary : Not worth the rust
Comes very dull but sharpens up and holds an edge. Rusted after first use despite filleting and rinsing in fresh water. Decent for the price but I would not buy again. Would rather spend an extra $10 and buy something nicer.
Sandra O. : Easy to find
Love them
Dennis : Great quality.
Really good quality knife. Giftable is a strange rating as I am a chef and even my wife would not buy a knife for me.
Amazon Customer : Nice knife
I used this for making beef jerky, and it worked great. I was able to make thin strips so it worked out great.
Patrick Keegan : Sharp
This knife is wicked sharp. Very very sharp. So sharp that while cleaning, it I sliced a hole through my index finger- it’s still healing months later! Great knife for scaling a big fish over 20 inches, it feels unwieldy otherwise.
Heidi Hoyt-Berg : Love me some Kershaw blades!
Gave as a gift but hubby loved it and I was impressed with the quality of the blade we will see how it holds up against the bubba blade this next salmon season the test is on! But my $ is one the Kershaw! ???? lol! !
LB : Good deal on a good knife
This is an excellent price for a quality knife. It is big and I used it to filet 2 red grouper with ease, right out of the package. It has a nice sheath and I am sure it will hold up well.
Amazon Customer : Gabinos gift
Got for a gift for guide in baja.so hope it's good.looks good
D'Lacey : Nice blade/handle. Easy to sharpen
Good solid blade. Nice comfortable handle. Not as flexible as I’d like but it still works quite nicely! Cheap plastic sheathe but it does it’s job.
Zachary : Good knife, bad case
Light weight and very sharp, good length. Terrible case.
Leslie Sisson : Extremely sharp right out of the package and regaining that exact edge after heavy use takes mere seconds on a diamond whetstone just like the Kershaws I used to carry
Yes, it will lightly rust if sheathed wet and left overnight. The small spots disappeared and stayed gone the day after its first use in the Gulf with near zero effort during post trip gear cleanup the next day. Leave knife out of sheath for both to dry and the rust stays gone. Extremely sharp right out of the package and regaining that exact edge after heavy use takes mere seconds on a diamond whetstone just like the Kershaws I used to carry.
B.T.S. : Excellent long length fillet knife.
I was surprised at the low price on this fillet knife. I have a few Kershaw pocket knives that I really like so I was quick to jump on this deal. I needed a fillet knife that could handle the big boys and this does the trick. I was able to run the blade along a 20 lb blue cat and take off the fillet in one cut. It's pretty sharp out of the package but a few swipes across the diamond hone and it's a razor. 10/10, I would buy this knife again.
Pjsteels : Description says US made, box says Made in China
Very disappointed in the advertising. On two different spots in the description it states "Made in USA". That's the reason I bought this knife, US company with a reputation for quality US made knives.
Box just arrived. I flip over packaging and read "Made in China" almost immediately. Will not open it just yet, may return it. Looks like a nice knife. It's probably an excellent knife. But the advertising is just straight up incorrect.
I'll be contacting Amazon and possibly Kershaw to address this issue.
Aaron Garn : You should have seen the one that got away!
This is a good knife for the price, but not perfect. Also, I screwed up and bought a fillet knife more at home with a giant salon or something. Way too big for the small, pan fish I catch in the pond.
Brandon M. : Rusted, brittle, broke, not true stainless steel!
Should’ve taken a picture of the knife. Used it on my boat for cutting fish after catching them. It started rusting pretty bad after a couple uses, to the point the edge was brittle and breaking. Definitely not true stainless steel.
Brad J Siefert : Not made in the USA as description claimed.
I am disappointed in this item as I purchased it over other brands because the description said it was made in the USA. When I recieved the item today, it says on the box it was made in China.
Peter Wesner : Love the sleeve for safety
Awessome fillet knife for the boat. Love the sleeve for safety!!
