S & C household : Works great when properly set up.

I had to upgrade my rig to fish for some bigger fish like pike and walleye. My buddy recommended a baitcaster reel and this is the one I ordered. It is smooth and cranks easily without binding. Since I'm learning I got to use the spool pull out feature to clear a backlash. After some practice this is my new favorite reel.

Daniel Fenley : Decent braking system!

First off, let me start by saying I am still fairly green with a bait caster. With that being said, once the braking system is set up for your bait, this reel is pretty forgiving. Don't get me wrong though, you will still cause a backlash if you don't use it properly. The product comes in a nice box with documentation and half a worm/jig. The reel is finished well in black and gold colors. The foam on the handle is firm and has a nice contour. Brake adjustment knob is easy to adjust. Drag adjustment is also easy to use. Retrieve operation is smooth and quick.

Overall I would say this reel is a great piece to get you started into bait casting. its forgiving enough to not frustrate you as much yet not like the digital control ones where casting is almost effortless.

This reel has the look and feel of a much more expensive reel. I have reels that cost four to five time the price. That don't have any features this reel doesn't have.
* This reel is very smooth with its 11+1 ball bearings.
* Constructed with brass drive gears for longevity.
* Magnetic brake system for fine tuning. Prevents backlashing the reel.
* 7.3:1 gear ratio for fast retrieving
* Ergonomic design for hours of comfortable fishing.
I had planned on mounting this reel on an old rod for a back up rod or loaner. After receiving and inspecting this reel. I went ahead and purchased a new rod to mount it on. I think this will be one I use on a regular bases. I have yet to take it fishing because of the weather. But can't wait.

Norman Morrison : Works as good as an expensive reel

I ran my new JOHNCOO Baitcasting Reel reel out to the lake today for a test spin, as they say. I'm using braided line with a fluorocarbon leader.
After a bit of adjusting, drag, resistance knob, and magnets it gets the bait on out there as it is supposed to with zero professional overlap. Max distance with no fear of a bird's nest. From this standpoint it's a solid addition to your arsenal. Couldn't be more pleased.
I gave it 4 stars because to my amazement it would not work with my first choice of rod, a Speed Stick whereby the reel tightens down in the front with the tightening screw on the bottom. The problem, I found, is that for reasons I can't fathom the screw that holds the line guide in place sticks out too far. The head contacts the top of the restraining clamp on the rod as it goes back and forth, putting into a bind and shaving off plastic from the reel screw.
My solution was to go to my second choice of rod..one that has threads on either end of the reel...You screw the top of the rod down towards the handle...that sort of arrangement. For that it works dandy with plenty of clearance.
So if you plan to put the reel on a rod that clamps with a screw from the bottom...it probably isn't for you. Else, it's low cost and perfect. The obvious fix for the manufacturer is to use a flatter screw head.

My husband really liked this baitcasting reel. He did a 20lb test with a medium/ heavy rod. It casts smoothly and reels in good as well. Great for this years fishing.
