In addition to a Lighted digital line counter that can be adjusted dependent on line type, the alum Synchro conventional reel incorporates a highly adjustable Synchro drag system. By cranking the handle 1/3 of a turn in a counterclockwise motion, a 50% decrease in drag pressure is achieved. This feature is especially useful when fishing with downriggers as it allows Baits to be dropped easily without having to disengage the reel.

Answer: I put 30 on mine

Is the counter waterproof?

Answer: I got it wet and it was okay, I didn't put it under water to see if its water proof.

Can this be used on a casting Rod?

Answer: Yes it can but trigger on handle may not allow it to sit well in a rod holder.

How big are these reels

Answer: There not to big

Answer: I’m not sure the exact weight but it’s pretty light weight and durable. We really like this reel and will buy it again. Im a petite person and can handle this easily with it mounted on the pole.

Answer: Yes it does. There is a little chrome or stainless button on the left side of the reel if you are looking down on it with reel facing forward. Slide this button down to click or up for sent. I hope this helps. It is an awesome reel. I fish for large 40 lb strippers and it does awesome.

Answer: Yes, the reel worked well for halibut and cod jig and bait fishing in Alaska last summer.

It’s great with the line counter trolling for stripers on Lake Texoma!

Andrew : Convenient features, but watch for defective parts.

I bought two DLC 12s and one DLC 16. Pros: drag is smooth, the clicker is audible, and the line counter can be read in the dark. Also, the synchro drag system is really handy for paying out line as well as for quickly backing off the drag to let a fish run.
Con(s): The spring washers in the drag system on one of the DLC 12s cracked and broke, thus rendering the synchro drag system inoperable. It was only an inconvenience to me as I was able to order a new set of washers and replace them myself. That happened after only one weekend of use on a downrigger. Overall, a decent trolling reel for the price.

***UPDATE***
I discovered that the spring washers were broken on the second of 3 reels and have thus reduced my rating to 1 star. I have now put in an order for replacement parts for all of my Altum DLC reels (which should get to me in a month), but I am considering selling these and buying something else once I fix them. If you purchase these reels I would advise you to NOT use the Synchro drag feature. That may prevent the springs from breaking.

Works great for trolling, jigging and other applications where the knowledge of the amount of line that is out is required or helpful. Takes the guesswork out of the equation. The counter goes into sleep mode when not in use to save on battery consumption. As soon as you move the line or handle the counter display comes back on. Works in feet or meters.
