Personally think it’s a great value reel, very pleased with its operation. Nothing more than 4lb landed with it, but performed very well and can’t foresee any issue with it. Definitely recommend.

The handle broke near the thumb grip. The fracture shows voids in the plastic all the way through. I had this happen on another Chinese made reel, except where the reel seat attaches to the main body of the reel. Be careful what you buy when it comes to items manufactured overseas.

After second use the line roller just fell off into the canal!! Just winding in a 5cm plastic shad under no pressure at all. I know they're cheap reels, but really??

Can’t take up the tension, as it simply lets the line back out.
Checked the Tightened up the drag fully & same.
Very very disappointed but not as much as my son was.

Wasn't expecting much from this reel. But I was expecting that when you buy a new reel you get a new reel! Not a second hand one that has paint chips that have been coloured in.

This is a review for the Cardinal 56FD. Oh, I am so annoyed, or am I? Bought 2021 as the last one left and arrived with a damaged retail box (but no damage on the external Amazon box… hmm). The condition of the reel itself presented something of a question too; the carbon body dull and sort of marked; the reel mechanism clicking in the gearing. So, I am ready to send it back…. until…. I considered it as a £20 reel – like the Shimano FX – did this one leave the factory without a clean and lubricate I wondered…. So a quick clean of the body with an alcohol wipe made the 56FD look better and a drop of Penn oil on the main shaft made the troublesome click silent. I have put line on the spool (you only get one) and all seems good. I have the Cardinal SWi 76i too so I can compare (albeit that the SWi has a different drag knob and an extra spool and better saltwater components), but at first glance they came off similar design briefs.

I suspect that my Cardinal 56FD somehow slipped through ABU quality control; or was an Amazon return; but now all seems OK for a cheap (quality make) reel. Only time will tell against my similarly priced Shimano FX and somewhat more expensive Abu SWi…. Would I buy it again? Well, I like the Swedes (despite the company being owned elsewhere now), so yes, depending on that old issue that is the ‘test of time’.

Very small reel, solid and smooth, ideal for small river. If buying need to mind its a very small spinning reel so might not be suitable for bigger lochs/sea fishing. Ideal for small river or float fishing rocks
