Why did it smell and smoke came out the back for min?
Answer: Did you run the dehydrator for 30 minutes without food in it before using it the first time? This is what the instruction book tells you to do. That way it can burn off any smells etc. If it happened during the time that you were doing this, it is normal. As that is why they have you do that before putting any food in it.
Q:
How much space is there between the trays? Or what's the thickest thing you can put in with all trays loaded? Thanks.
Answer: The spacing between the shelf frames is 1.338 in. I would suggest that you limit the thickness of anything you wish to dry to .6 in. This would allow for any curling of the material and allow you to easily withdraw the shelves. I hope this helps you. Happy dehydrating.

Answer: Yes, they are totally removable. That way they can be completely cleaned in between uses.

Is it loud and noisy?
Answer: This dehydrator is extremely quiet! I usually dehydrate chili peppers for 25 hours and it runs over night, there has been days and nights that it is running and I forget all about it since it's super quiet. I made a good purchase and I am extremely happy with this small lightweight machine. I recommend you purchase it, you won't be disappointed.

Has anyone verified the heat settings ?
Answer: I ran a test when I first bought it. It was empty. Using a meat probe on a wire it all checked out. The range goes a degree or two higher and lower as the thermometer causes the heating element to kick on and off. The heat is the temp of the air inside, not the product you are drying. Mine goes up to a registered 167 degrees. Much more accurate and efficient than the dehydrator I had before. I love it.

Answer: You sure can! Use the lowest setting of 95 degrees F. It comes with one herb drying tray that is plastic OR you can use parchment paper on the six stainless steel trays that come with the unit. My suggestion is to leave the herbs on the stems because small loose leaves might blow around inside the unit as the fan is fairly strong.

Answer: They are easy to clean and sturdy. I did buy silicone sheets which help with messy residue but even when I do t use them they clean up easily after I minute or two of soaking

I first bought this and it got lost in the mail so I got another sent out to me. It worked perfectly for the first few uses. Then I tried to make some jerky. Set the timer at 5hrs. Came back when it was almost finished to check on them when I noticed the fan was blowing but it was only blowing cold air when it was set to 160 degrees. Luckily I hadn’t had it long enough I was able to set up a return through Amazon. Extremely dissapointed.

I thought I was done dehydrating and got rid of my two a Excaliburs. However hubby still gardening, so I needed a dehydrator again! Wanted smaller and inexpensive and found this one. Took a chance and glad I did! Every bit as good as my Excaliburs! I have used it a lot already and very happy with it. Dehydrates completely and fairly quick. Made very well, love the door and racks. Only thing that could be improved on is that the machine would shut off once it shuts down after the dehydrating timer goes off. Still not a huge deal as the dehydrating itself has stopped. Easy to set temp and time. Easy to clean.
