HARDY 1939 BOUGLE HERITAGE

The original Bougle was last produced in 1939, and many collectors believe the reel reached both its functional and aesthetic apex, even though few reels were produced that year. Now, the new 1939 Bougle Heritage Reel pays homage to those rare originals.

The new reels feature the time-tested Mark II check mechanism and are finished with a dark gun metal anodization, reminiscent of the original.

The 1939 Bougle Heritage Reel is available in the traditional trout sizes at 3" and 3 1/4" diameters. Additionally, and for the first time, they are offered in a 3 3/4" Olympic diameter, which is perfect for light Spey and Switch rods.

Royal Warrant

The Royal Warrant is a recognition of personal service of a high order.

Royal Warrants are part of an ancient tradition which recognizes exceptional services by suppliers of high quality goods and services to royalty. Several European monarchies grant warrants, including the royal family of Britain.

Today, only the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles may grant warrants, and these are only awarded after a tradesman or company has provided services for a period of at least five years. The current warrant is held on behalf of Prince Charles and it allows Hardy to display the coat of arms of the Prince below the words, “By Appointment to HRH The Prince of Wales, manufacturers of fishing tackle”. It is the ultimate seal of approval.

1872 - The Legend Begins In 1872, a young man called William Hardy set up shop as a gunsmith in Alnwick, Northumberland, and that might very well have been the end of the story had not the great engineering magnate Lord Armstrong persuaded him to take his brother John James into partnership. There things might have stood, but in 1874 an advert appeared in the Alnwick Mercury announcing that the firm was selling ‘superior River and Sea Fishing tackle'.	1891: The First Hardy Perfect To begin with the brothers bought in most of the tackle they sold, their reels, for example, coming from Malloch. However, as the firm expanded, Hardys found themselves with a reputation for superior quality tackle to defend and realized that they could hardly continue to depend on products made by competitors, so in 1891, after three years of patient development, they launched a reel which became their most famous product, the Perfect.	Expansion and Export For the first few decades of the firm's existence, Hardys business activities were confined to Alnwick, after the brothers had expanded into comfortable new premises in Bondgate in 1887, but a decade later they opened a shop at 61 Pall Mall in London, which was destined to become nearly as famous an address as their Northumberland factory.	Hardy today Even though Hardys are no longer a family business, the company continues to value its tradition. In the past decade or so, Hardys has paid homage to its history with several lines of reels designed specifically for the collectors' market. However, collecting is not what Hardy is about, the firm remains at the cutting edge of tackle development.
