Long Casting, Long Lasting

The Rockaway Long Casting Surf Reel is a compact bodied long stroke surf reel that features a lightweight graphite body, rotor and side plates giving you a truly corrosion resistant reel for the harsh surf environment. The long cast 2-tone anodized aluminum spool is built to hold your braided or monofilament lines tight and secure.

At a mere 17 oz, this reel is extremely light. The graphite CFR: Cyclonic Flow Rotor technology sweeps water away from the internal workings of the spool keeping you on the water longer. With 5 total stainless steel ball bearings and a quick-set anti-reverse, you will have no problem battling from the edge of the water.

The 5.3:1 gear ratio brings in 40.9” of line per turn of the rigid metal handle. Currently with one model, this 6000 sized reel packs on a whopping 375 yards of 12lb monofilament.

What is the max drag in pounds?

Is this the 8K?

Answer: It's a 600 size, i spooled mine with 40# power pro was able to fit all 300 yards.

Which parts of any plastic? Does the handle screw into the reel frame or secured by screw c on the other side of the frame by its stem?

can I use braid on this reel?

Answer: Yes I use spider wire salt water braid and it works great !

Three questions: is the spool longer than most? does it have an automatic bail lock and does it have a reverse switch

Answer: The Rockaway Surf reel features a tall / shallow spool for long distance casting. The bail has a manual trip and there is a anti reverse switch on this reel model.

Answer: The spool length is standard to the size of reel that’s advertised. I got approx 300yd of 30 pound suffix and 40’ of 60lb mono shock leader on mine with no issue. Most reels this big don’t have a bail spring. It does have a reverse switch.

Unboxing . Without trying and looking at the big three it has a ton of surf reel features. Fast drag simple reel the rod match is light good both economical I am impressed you don't hear a lot about the reel at all.Not going to send this back and look sold out most places. Buy both as a match in this case

I originally bought the reel as a cheap high capacity backup. But found myself choosing to take it out over my penn battles and spinfishers. Paired with a 7'6" st croix this has somehow become my goto rod. The feel of it is great. I've pulled in some large size grouper with it here in Florida. Can't say enough about it. It's a steal for the price

Bought this reel to use exclusively with 12' Okuma Rockaway 1-4 oz rod.
Plugging and throwing lures in 1-2.5 oz range for long casts action.
Reel is braid ready and it is spooled with 30lb braid It has a very nice layout on the spool.
Handle feels so strong and powerful. Crank is great and with 40" retrieve per turn those lures comes back very fast when you need to make another cast.
