Answer: I used squid, bread and a chicken wing.

We have alligators, turtles & otters which we dont know which one destroyed mesh trap. Also inlet holes were big enough for small turtles and a small alligator (2.5ft) to get in. Now that was fun to get out. That caused a small 3 in tear which I repaired with fishing line. Only lasted about a week before something blew out an entire side and completely destroying. I have another metal trap and none of those issues. So if you have predators I suggest finding a metal trap.

This minnow trap is really kind of huge! It would work well hanging off a dock in the water is minnows tender congregate around structures like that. But if you have a shallow pond, or if you’re going to be working near the shore, I would not recommend it at all! It’s very intricate and has many little chambers. I found it to work decently well. But it is difficult to clean.

It was a perfect gift for my husband and he loved it. Sad part is, it only lasted one day. Some type of fish shredded it trying to get the fish that was in it.

This is very nice. You have to weight it to keep it down as it is fairly light but it is solid. The zipper is plastic so be careful with it as it zips up pretty tight but overall it is good quality. Cant wait to take it out to the creek and catch minnows and crawdads with the kids!

While we have only had product for 2 days we love it so far! Very easy to set. Put bait in pouch, clip, zip, and go! We have caught something both days setting it out in the creek. My son can't wait to go check it. We put a piece of dog food in trap and caught 6 crayfish & a fish. Fun, fun, fun!

Amazed that not only does this thing work, but it works WELL. Caught enough gambusia in one night to feed my baby peacock bass for months. Plus, discovered a previously-unknown population of large, edible crayfish living in my 3 year old pond. :)

Update: Bought three more, and larger this time. These are equally durable, and work as well as my original smaller trap. Excellent product, especially considering the price.

Feels very fragile, definitely lightweight, should last for a year or 2 with consistant use. 1 small snag will tear it :/

Be careful of the hole size. My state requires 2in maximum minnows or Crawdads, these are wider. I tied a string through the holes to shrink them so its a legal trap.

Otherwise, works great and is very portable. I caught a huge crawdad with it. Huge for my rivers.

I used and quite good result. It's reasonable price, light, and foldable to carry handy.

mudder : Catches minnows quickly when bait is fresh.

Fish pellets drew the minnows in quickly for about 30 minutes, then nothing and they eventually escape. I would not leave trap unattended if there are turtles about. For me, bait was key, trapped 10-20 minnows in short order. Beats one man seining!

It's so fun to catch your own bait! Love this bait trap! It's easy to set up and folds up nicely when I'm finished. It even comes with a nice little drawstring bag so I can put it in my backpack without getting everything else wet. Oh and with big minnows being $10 a dz at the bait shop it's more than paid for itself!!
