Answer: I actually don't know. I'm guessing about 18 inches at the farthest width. That's a guess though. I was able to scoop a nice sized Northern Pike into it when I was in the Boundary Waters if that helps.

The net seems pretty sturdy but you would t want to catch more than a medium fish with respect to the shaft strength. I like the way it folds. We actually got it to get items like cans or bottles out of the lake as we go by in our boat. It will work well for that as the handle is long enough for someone to reach over but we don’t have an awkward net and pole to find a place for when not in use.

Its pretty awesome and the lip grip is great. The only reason its not a 5 star is the mesh holes are pretty big compares to what ot appears to advertise as. The material is rubberized and makes it a bit sticky to slide i to a bag. Overall its great and very functional.
