what is the thickness of this bag material, how many mils?

Answer: I thought the information on Amazon website said 3 mil, but I really hsve no idea. There is no marking on the packaging and as far as I know, there is no wau to measure it.

Sorry for the second question, but I freeze-dry food for long-term storage, are these suitable for that use. Have you tested these for long -term use?

Answer: We have done Mocon testing, it should be in the photos. They have as good barrier properties as most Mylar bags on Amazon. If you use an oxygen absorber with dry goods or freeze dried foods in addition to vacuuming, they will last up to the 20-25 years quoted for many Mylar bags.

These bags are a little bigger (that's why I got them) compared to the standard Harvest Right bags that came with my unit buy they are great for storage. Only diff is that there's no label to mark with a Sharpie. I just wrote on them anyway and didn't' touch it so it wouldn't smudge...

Answer: Freeze dried food will store well in these bags, up to 10-15 years, depending on the food and storage environment.

Answer: I believe they store 40+ years. Be sure they are property freeze dried and that you use the correct amount of oxygen absorber.

Is there a trick to getting these to vacuum? I’ve tried 2 different food savers and can’t get it to vacuum.

Answer: Make sure they are the pleated mylar bags. I'm using a FoodSaver model vacuum sealer and found that if you seal the mylar twice, without moving the bag, for each seam the seals will take and hold. Normally mylar bags are sealed with an iron of some type. The vacuum sealer needs to seal twice to equal the heat of the hot iron. Other model vacuum sealers may not require doing this but this is what works for me.

Answer: I found that doing a double seal on the bottom and sealing the top twice after vacuum sealing the product made a difference. You have to push really hard to make an airproof seal, but I have had success.

Answer: Any time we had any problems with the sealers, it has always been something wrong with the gaskets on the sealers, even a little tiny little indentation on those gaskets can cause them not to seal. Also make sure you get the textured or pleated mylar, the slick mylar doesn't seal worth a dang.

Will these work with a foodsaver model fm2435?

Answer: I have the food saver V2244 and it worked great. Not sure about the fm2435 but my model did seal the bag so I would assume yours would as well.

Answer: Heya, thanks for the question. With the 11"x16' you can make about 15 1 gallon bags.

Do these block UV?

Answer: I wouldn't store anything sealed in them where they would be exposed to UV lighting, they aren't thick enough to be completely opaque so there is some light transmission I'm sure. Thicker mylar is more expensive and harder to seal, but like I said, we would never store anything where it was going to be exposed to UV.

How long does food last

Answer: That's a difficult question to answer due to all the variables involved. I can say that for me, food sealed in the mylar bags with a 500CC oxygen absorber last at least 2-3 times longer than if left in the original packaging. Dry foods such as rice, pasta and dried beans last indefinitely. Hope this helps!

Answer: It depends on what it is. Something like lettuce may have its shelf life extended up to a month (which is great, considering a week is usually all you'll get). Things like certain cheeses may last years. I always recommend you test any foods you're wanting to store to determine how long it will last in your refrigerator or freezer.

If I am using a food sealer to seal, do I still need to use an oxygen absorber for long term food storage?

Answer: No. It pulls a vacuum, meaning all the air is sucked out, so there will be little or no oxygen left in the bag to absorb.

Answer: I don't know off hand what model I have, but they work with my Walmart purchased Food Saver. I do the seal a second time, just to be sure it is completely sealed since Mylar is thicker than the Foodsaver bags.

Not easy to use with vacuum sealer. Tried on 2 different sealers.

These Mylar bags were designed to be used with a vacuum sealer such as a FoodSaver to create air-tight packets for long-term storage. They do not seal at all with a FoodSaver. After sealing the bottom and then the top edges, in very little time the packages let the air back in. I tried using an iron to reseal the factory side seams as well as the FoodSaver seals on the bottom and then the top as soon as the package was sealed. That didn't work either.
I then took the sealed packet and put it in a FoodSaver container that I could suck the air out of. It sealed the packet but then the air came back in 4 out of the 5 that I tried which tells me that even after ironing all 4 sides, air is still getting in. I shouldn't have to use a iron at all but even using one, it doesn't work.
Considering the intent of the mylar bag is to suck the air out and put an oxygen absorber in to have an oxygen free packet for long term storage, this product does not work as intended.

These are great for dried fruits which I was having issues with puncturing regular bags. My only compliant is that my foodsaver sometimes has issues sucking the air out of these and tries to prematurely seal. I have to listen to the boise the pump is making, interrupt it and readjust the bag before it tries to seal it without sucking all the air out.

I had to press the food saver hard to get it to catch a vacuum - these bags are too thin I think or lack the texture as someone else says for the food savers (I tried 2 diff models i have and both had issues). I was able to get it to vacuum if i pressed tight on the lid. Then the seal/heat shut off too soon and I had to manually do a second seal. So not sure these are worth the hassle.

This works well in my vacuum sealer. I need to hit the seal button a second time as mine doesn't get quite hot enough for Mylar. Then I have a hair iron that works really well to put a better seal on it. Both sides of the bags are textures so it sucks theaur out quite good.

These rolls will not work on basic home vacuum sealers. The “grooves” that the manufacturer claims these rolls have, are just not enough for the air to flow on a home vacuum.

If you have a commercial vacuum sealer, they will work.

Dono : doesn't vacuum as tight as clear plastic bags

these don't get quite as good a vacuum for sealing as standard vac bags. when I use even generic clear vac bags, I get a much better vacuum draw, resulting in better, tighter compression. these don't seem to have enough texture to get as good a draw using my foodsaver brand sealer. but with O2 absorbers &/or desiccant packs they are satisfactory.

Perfect for long term storage. Love that I can throw in an oxygen absorber and then use my food saver to get as much oxygen out as possible. Also, much sturdier then regular Mylar bags. We’ve had some Mylar bags rip when we have things like quinoa in them, not a fun mess to clean up, but this material has stayed sturdy, with no holes.
