Just released july 2019. But how does the blade hold up to perch or walleye tough skin?

Answer: have used mine about a dozen time ad so far it is still as sharp as the day I got it

How do you get fish bits out of the solid sheath? The air hole looks rather small from the pictures.

Answer: Never an issue, lay the sheath aside and clean the fish. Wash all off and back together.

So, the steel in this blade is 8cr14, not 8cr14MoV?

Answer: It's actually a hybrid 8cr14 and a MoV which allows you to use the HOV carpool lane!

7" Spartacus filet knife question. The key to filetting fish is a sharp flexible knife and good feel. Is it light enough to feel the bone edges?

Answer: Yes,you can definitely feel the bones. This knife is EXTREMELY sharp and easy to resharpen. I use the 7" knife on larger fish like walleye and bass and the 5 " knife for panfish.

Answer: Yes, a excellent filet knife needs a flexible shape blade to feel the bone edge and a handle that feels good in the hand.

Until I read another person’s review, I was disappointed in how the sheath slipped right off the knife for obvious safety reasons. The other review stated to push the knife in the sheathing until it clicks. I did this and decided to keep the knife and have used it. Really sharp and smooth. Feels good in palm of my hand and I can have full control.

If you have small hands then the handle on this knife might seem a little excessive, but I have large and hands and really enjoy the fit and feel. I have only used a few times so far but this blade seems to be high quality for the price. I plan to return and provide an update on my thoughts after a few months of use. Overall first impressions are VERY good. Kastking seems to make loads of quality products at very reasonable prices. I don't think you can go wrong with this one!

The blade seems good, slightly springy, with a nice protective coating on the blade. I won't know how well it holds its edge until I've used it awhile.

Most knife handles that have indentations for where the fingers wrap around the handle have 4 indentations since the thumb does not go there. This knife has 5 finger indentations. Not sure why it was designed that way but to me it feels a little weird when trying to find a comfortable grip. You can hold it "forward" towards the blade or "back" towards the pommel of the handle. Trying to hold it in the middle definitely doesn't work for me. The handle *does* grip well, and would probably do so even if you are wearing gloves, which is important.

The sheath is an absolute travesty and the manufacturer should be embarrassed to include it with the knife. Problems include: Belt straps are far too thin for a belt; there is NOTHING to help retain the knife so it falls out very easily; when inserting knife into the sheath it frequently catches on something and won't insert; and the sheath is solid meaning that trying to clean out any fish bits pushed in by the blade is going to be very difficult, possibly leading to leaving harmful bacteria in the sheath and on the blade after it's been in there for a bit. My personal advice is to just throw the sheath away and get a real one somewhere else.

The box it came in makes a nice gift box. I would rather the manufacturer had used the money spent on the box to provide a usable sheath.

Purchased this based on some other good reviews and the price point. The grip is fairly large for my small hands, but it feels solid and sticky/textured enough not to slip with wet/slimy hands while working. The 7" has plenty of flexibility without being to limp. The blade fits well into the provided hard sheath and engages securely with an audible click when completely secured. The sharpness seems pretty good straight from the box. I'm looking forward to seeing how the edge retention holds up with continued use. So far, so good. I'd love to see this model in a smaller size like a 4-5" for more delicate work.
