product features
- by entering your model number.
- This BogaGrip is Model 315: The scale weighs fish up to 15 pounds in 1/4 pound increments. It is 9 inches long and weighs 9 ounces.
- The BogaGrip is designed to promote "catch and release fishing," as it will land, handle, and weigh fish quickly and simultaneously without injury to the fish. It is particularly good for handling fish in cold weather, or hard-to-handle fish.
- The fish's weight is checked by reading the point that the main tube's embossed scale has been pulled down to inside the grip tubing. The fish is released by pulling back on the trigger.
- In use, the fisherman will hold the grip sleeve, and using his index finger or thumb will pull back the trigger sleeve, which causes the jaws to open.
- Made in the USA, and of USA-made materials. All metal parts of the BogaGrip are made of stainless steel. All plastic parts are made from acetal, which is a high-performance engineered thermoplastic that is used in unlubricated bearing applications.
product description
Boga Grip Advantages
The Boga Grip is designed to promote "catch and release fishing," as it will land, handle, and weigh fish quickly and simultaneously without injury to the fish. The Boga Grip also affords an easy opportunity to inspect and take pictures of the fish. The Boga Grip is particularly good for handling fish in cold weather, or hard-to-handle fish such as toothy fish. It also keeps a fisherman's hand at a safer distance from hooks.
Boga Grip Design
The BogaGrip is generally tube shaped, with one end serving as the grip and scale, and the other end with a pair of jaws. It has a trigger sleeve that slides along the main tube, serving as an opening and closing means as well as a lock. The grip consists of a sleeve tube covered with a non-slip grip. The main tube has a precision scale embossed in it to match each individual scale spring, and the scale is calibrated using certified weights to insure accuracy within one increment.
Boga Grip Materials
The BogaGrip is made in the USA of USA-made materials. All metal parts of the BogaGrip are made of 300 series stainless steel, except for the precision scale spring, which is 17-7 PH stainless steel. All plastic parts are made from acetal, which is a high-performance engineering thermoplastic that is used in unlubricated bearing applications. Acetal is tough and resilient and is very resistant to UV light. Constructing the BogaGrip of these materials makes it very strong and resistant to conditions encountered while fishing in fresh or saltwater.
Different Models Explained
The Boga Grip is available in three models. Model 315: The scale weighs fish up to 15 pounds in 1/4 pound increments; 9 inches long, weighs 9 ounces. Model 130: The scale weighs fish up to 30 pounds in 1/2 pound increments; 10 3/4 inches long, weighs 1 pound. Model 260: The scale weighs fish up to 60 pounds in 1/2 pound increments; 15 inches long, weighs 1 1/2 pounds. The Boga Grip is built to handle fish weighing double its scale capacity.

Questions about Boga Grip 315 15lb Scale
Q:
hello, what are the dimensions? length?
Answer: Hello hd, I am at work but approx. 1.5 IN. wide and 12 IN in length. Buy a buoy to tie on the string in case you drop it in the drink. I used this last week smallie fishing in Sturgeon Bay, WI and it worked out great...love it. Pricey but worth it.
Q:
I fish for Northern Pike which rotate and spin. Does the Boga rotate or does it hold the fish in a fixed position?
Answer: I gave it to my son as a gift so I don't have it to check. I think it will twist in your hand but the head is fixed so hold on if the pike are a twisting! I think the reason for the wrist strap/cord is to afix the Boga to your wrist in case the fish wiggle it out of your grip or twist so you don't lose the fish or the Boga! The Boga will hold on to the fish, you just need to hold on to the Boga. It too much money to see it go to the bottom of the lake.
Answer: It rotates and spins with your fish! Smooth as can be! 360 degree spin continuos as many times as you want to spin it around.
Answer: I routinely catch Walleye and Lake Trout that weigh 8 or more pounds. I don't believe that there is anything in the design of the Boga that would prevent spinning, but in practice I've never had a fish that rotated while being held with the Boga. There has been plenty of thrashing and bouncing where it was impossible to hold the fish still, but the orientation of the fish has never changed once grasped by the Boga. The Boga is an excellent tool that allows for much safer handling of the fish. If you compare the Boga to the cheap grips sold by most tackle companies, you'll understand why it costs so much more.
Answer: The Boga handle allows it to rotate.
Answer: It grips firm and if you tilt it a bit no rotation
Answer: My does not rotate. It is fixed.
Answer: Can't speak for others but the one I have does rotate.
Answer: Yes. It does rotate but I have not found it to be a problem.
Q:
Any holster for this grip??
Answer: No holster. It comes as you see it with the wrist wrap.
Answer: No holster, just the lanyard.
Answer: I haven't seen one, but I haven't shopped for one either.
Answer: No
Answer: There is one on ebay
Answer: It doesn’t come with one.
Answer: Nowith what I recieved
Answer: Yes, just Google it.
Q:
Where can I find a 60 lbs set of bogas. Can’t seem to find any
Answer: Bass pro shops
Q:
Does the Boga grip come with a warranty, and if so what are the details?
Answer: Yes. On year manufacturers warranty. We never had on fail.
Answer: I don't know the answer to that- It was a gift for my son. The quality is first rate and I'm confident they'll be no problems.
Answer: Their website doesn't mention it, but I believe it to be one year.
Q:
Product detail says this is the 30 lb model, but in my cart is says 15 lb. Which is it?
Answer: Amazon sent me the wrong one and would not change it for the one I ordered I wanted the 15 lb and they sent the 3lb
Q:
If your paying this much for a scale im sure your an active fisherman. Im wondering if this is an acurate scale?
Answer: Yes the scale is very accurate and you can send them in to IGFA (International Game Fish Association) and have them further certified accurate to be able to claim world record weights. Great tool worth the money.
Answer: It is the best. You get only what you pay for.
Answer: Boga's are accurate to a certain point. The 30lb will not get you down to exact ounces. It will be accurate to lbs. It is often difficult with a flopping fish to get a precise read. It is quite accurate with a dead fish. Certainly don't want to sound judgmental, but I quit weighing and photographing fish many years ago. For me it's more important to safely and quickly release the fish and just enjoy the moment more than the bragging rights, or trophy shots. That said I do realize tournament fishers and many others need to know a fishes weight, so for them its a must have piece of gear.
Q:
Do you sell or know of someone who sells a carrying case for belts? A big asset for bank fisherman who walk.
Answer: Hello do you mean this item?
Q:
What size float is needed for the Boga 30lb?
Answer: Doesn't take a lot to keep it afloat. Most, including myself, just use a stringer style float
Answer: Best salt water fishing scale
Q:
Whats the difference between the boga and the one sold by Eastaboga tackle? There are two published web pages as well.
Answer: Eastaboga is the manufacturer of the original Boga Grip. They are the same.
Answer: They are one in the same.
Answer: They are the same company. Thank you
Q:
Is this the Boga Model 315 that measures in 1/4 lb increments?
Answer: Yes
Q:
When you lip the fish does it lock on?
Answer: Yes. It’s does a good job of holding fish
Answer: Yes, fish cannot escape. Safe for fish also..
Answer: Yes to release you pull up on the black plastic it then releases sometimes it sticks a little from sand but I never had an issue with it
Answer: Yes. It is spring loaded. You pull up the round tab to open, then release to let it close.
Answer: It does on mine.
Answer: Yes.
Answer: Yes.
Q:
I had a knock off version i used for surf fishing...sand got between the sliding mechanism and ruined it. Will this have the same problem with sand?
Answer: Interesting question. I use mine a lot in silty conditions for pike and it gets knocked around a lot in the boat. Never had any issues. Beach sand is coarser than silt (-#200 sieve size) I would imagine surf is between that and #40). The boga is very robust, but if sand did get in there, I would try a little triflow lubricant and work the piston back and forth. My boga grip is the 130 30# model. I had a knock off before this and it was worthless and hang up also.
Answer: There are very few, if any, mechanical devises that will not be ruined by sea and sand. The Boga is made for salt water environments so with normal care it should last. After a day of salt water fishing I would treat it like any other piece of gear and give it a good fresh water rinse. Never had an issue with sand getting in mine but it's been in plenty of NA H2O with no harm.
Answer: This is a very tight tolerance tool so I do not think you will have a problem. I have dropped mine into a sandy lake bottom a couple of time and had no problem. Not the same as the beach sand environment but this part is head and shoulders above the knock offs in every way.
Answer: Not sure,we fish off our boat... no sand. Sorry i couldn't help, Good Luck!
Answer: I wouldn't think so. There pretty awesome. I think there worth the money. But I've never had them in the sand.
Q:
Is this a salt water scale?
Answer: Yes this is a saltwater scale as well as freshwater. I definitely recommend this brand as I use it every day on the boat, and the scale is very accurate. For good maintenance remember to rinse with fresh water and oil the moving parts. For reassurance I pulled this directly from the company's website : "Boga-Grip is made in America of U.S.-made materials. This quality tool is made of stainless steel and high-performance black acetal thermoplastic. These tough and resilient materials makes Boga-Grip very strong and resistant to conditions encountered while fishing in fresh or saltwater"
Answer: I use it for salt water toothy critters but I don't use it for a scale.
Answer: Yes. ( on a side note: 1 pound in saltwater is 1 pound in fresh water :} ) I used mine only in saltwater and very rarely washed it off. I tend to fish a couple times a week. It's a REALLY high quality piece of equipment. Reliable and tough and made in the U.S.
Answer: It can be used in salt water but it requires a good clean afterwards.
Answer: No. I use it exclusively in fresh water, primarily for large northern pike and lake trout.
Answer: Yes it is. All stainless and an excellent product. There are other "similar" items that are much cheaper. I've seen them and most are of lesser quality. You get what you pay for.
Answer: Yes. All stainless steel and plastic. Check out the website http://www.boga-grip.com/
Q:
Do I want the 30lb or the 60lb version? Want to have a scale, not just grip fish. Bass fishing, mostly.
Answer: Bass only get up to maybe 10 lbs - so definitely the 30 lb version. But Bass don't have teeth, so usually you don't use the grips for holding the fish. I would recomend you get a fish scale that goes up to 15 lbs - definitely cheaper. I think the Boca Grips would be overkill for Bass.
Answer: Well I mostly fish back bay and kayak so it's good for small bass. If you catch a lot of bass over 30lbs the go with the 60 I don't so I saved the money and went smaller. Hope this helps. Check out www.chunkzcustoms.com for custom rods thanks
Answer: If fishing for largemouth bass get the smaller Boga. The 15 lb would do fine since a bass over 10 lb is rare indeed.
Answer: Hello. I bought the 30 and wish i would have done the 60. if your only planning to use it or bass then the 30 is plenty.
Answer: Bass fishing? 30 lb is all you will need.
Answer: for Bass fishing 30 lb would be plenty.

PAHunter : Good sturdy product but it's heavy
Good sturdy product but it's heavy. I bought it for wade fishing the Florida flats and found it to be way overkill and too heavy to lug around. I'm sure it would be a good product if you're fishing from a boat. I opted for the floating plastic grip for wade fishing.

Expensive but well worth it!!!
Matthew D. : Do not hesitate.... It's worth every penny
I was hesitant to make this purchase because of the price. My coworker has had one for over a year and kept telling me it was one of the best purchases he ever made. I started out buying just the cheap gripper from basspro and I liked the way it worked (it did end up rusting). I really wanted a way to weigh my fish. Well I finally bit the bullet and bought a boga 30lb and it has lived up to its reputation. I have owned it for about 3 years now and let me tell you, this thing is awesome. I use the boga primarily on redfish. It is hard to think that you can land a fish, remove it from the net, remove the hook from the fish, and release the fish without ever actually touching the fish. I have landed many red snapper, cobia, bonita, and kings with it as well. The largest being a 40 plus pound cobia (maxed out the 30lb scale). I wash it off when I get home ALMOST every time.. but i have forgot to before. It has been fully submerged in saltwater and there is not one hint of rust anywhere on the tool. I fished the Alabama deep sea rodeo and weighed in 3 different fish. I was able to estimate the weight within one tenth of a pound on all 3 fish. A 4lb redfish, 12lb bonita, and a 27lb cobia. I was really blown away with the accuracy considering it only gives you half pound incriments. My buddy really liked my boga but didnt want to spend that much money on one so he bought a 60lb gorilla gripper. His was over 2lbs off on the cobia and dropped the fish twice. The actual grip to the handle slid off, and as of now his scale will not read anything under 4lb. The boga is made in the USA of USA materials. You cant beat that. This item truly encompasses the saying you get what you pay for. Buy one and I promise you wont regret it. Thanks for reading and I hope this review helps. Good luck and God Bless!

Dennis Auzenne : Best lipper
My 2nd Boga Grip...first one lost, so I knew what to expect...This is the best fish lipped on the market bar none!
Amazon Customer : BogaGrip second to none
The BogaGrip is second to none. I took some comparative photos to show the differences between Boga and the Entsport gripper. The first thing to notice is the difference in quality and workmanship in the tool itself. Everything on the Boga is thick walled, tight fitting, smooth operating, and feels good in the hand. The Entsport is thin walled, loose fitting, grinds a bit operating the gripper, and light/cheap in the hand. The scale on the Boga is .25 lb increments and the ES is one pound and clearly inaccurate comparing side by side. I do understand the ES goes up to 15kg. The final comparison is the Boga gripper spins allowing for the gripped fish to do what they do - bending and twisting - when caught to help ensure little to no damage to the fish. The ES doesnt spin at all and almost certainly will either damage or break the fish's jaw if the utmost care is not taken in handling. Further, the grabber claws on the ES are loose along with the rest of the mechanism. I could see a fish coming right out of the jaws of the ES! The Boga is solid, tight, and operates smoothly. No concerning wiggle or looseness in its operation whatsoever with the distinctive "click" delivering confidence. Those who know, know.
The Boga is the right and best tool for the job that will last a lifetime!
FlyfishVT : Love it!!!
I can't say enough good things about this item. It is worth every penny and now has a permanent spot on my boat.
Bob O. : Caution Using Boga's
Just giving the one star so readers will take note.**** Do Not Use Boga Grips on Bonefish or Trout.**** The damage done to the mouth, tongue and mandible may leave the fish with severe injuries. Many will not recover. Not to worry about using a Boga on many other species like catfish or any of the toothy variety. The Boga's a fine tool but please be knowledgeable and give the fish some respect.

I have tried other brands and this is the real deal. Works great with one hand and easy to attach to a wading belt.
Hardwater Hopper : Clearly the best...
Very well made and easy to use. It's great having a reliable scale built in. Thank you for continuing to make these in the USA and not giving in to the pressure to go cheap and go overseas. Definitely worth the extra money, if you go for a cheap knock-off trying to save money you'll regret it. I did when I ended up throwing away two others when they stopped working after a few uses. A digital version might be nice for exact weight displays, but this mechanical scale is the most durable option.

From the outside looking in you might be asking yourself why this scale is 130 bucks. I mean there are many scales on the market that look like it for much less money. Well let me assure you that once you pick it up you will understand. I geek out over well made stuff and I can tell you that the design and operation of this scale is inspired. I think there are two topics that sum up this understated fish grip and scale.
Design & Durability - It comes packaged in a small cardboard box with a manual on operation and disassembly. It also comes with a tool to assist in disassembly. It is made in USA of USA materials. I think most people purchase this for the scale but Boga is most proud of its fish gripping ability as advertised on the box. That's not to downplay to scale however as I will touch on in a little bit. The tool is all stainless steel with very little plastic which means its hefty and feels good in the hand. The steel is excellent quality and has a nice finished sheen. The plastic trigger and butt is dense plastic and is shaved from a solid plastic block which gives it a very low tolerance finish. The two claws meet together perfectly at rest. The rubber grip is tacky and the grip assembly has a slight taper that helps to improve the grip. Its topped off with nice marine grade cord and plastic nock. There is no doubt in my mind that this thing will be gripping fish long after I'm gone.
Operation - The trigger has perfect placement and is easy to get good leverage and pull back with your thumb which operates the jaws. The operation is very smooth and as stated before the jaws rest perfectly touching while at rest, and there is no pulling them apart. You are not going to lose a fish when those jaws come back to rest. What ultimately sold me on this tool however was when I pulled on the scale. Smooth as butter. I have had 30 dollar scales that are rated well and have a generally good reputation, but the spring in the Boga Grip is just something different. I had to test the accuracy so I tied a string around a 2.5, 5, 10, and 25lbs weights from some workout equipment. These are good weights and have a sleight margin for error, but the Boga was dead on with each weight from 2.5 to 25lbs. I almost bought the 15lbs Boga instead thinking that the scale would be more accurate within that range but I couldn't be more happy with the accuracy of the 30lbs. The readings are small but you probably already know that. Don't let that deter you from this scale though.
Overall I couldn't be happier. I have spent 130 bucks on much worse for the water. Fellas chasing world record Large Mouth in California use this scale on the boat. That's saying something. It is a badge of a serious fisherman.

Amazon Customer : Great product for safely handling pike
I received one of these as a gift. Go fishing in Canada every summer and catch regular series of pike, most 20-25 inches. This gets them out of the net. They are hooked in the lower lip. I get the hook out without having to hold the fish and disturb their slime coating. I get them back in the water quickly and unhurt. And unlike a cheap one I bought several years before, their lip is undamaged. Great, great product.

The quality of this scale is great. I had one of the knockoffs until I used a 10# weight to check it and it showed 12#. Thats when I got a boga grip. With care this will be the last scale you buy in your life.
