Answer: I've not had the drag set this tight. I mostly fish this reel for trout and smallmouth bass.

Answer: About 30 more then you will ever need put some 30# braid on it and it’s a good surf casting reel too big for the kyack and not waterproof for the boat

Answer: If you’re using a 7 foot rod and want a light setup, I would go with the shimano Stradic 2500, just would have to play the fish light by having loose drag.

Answer: I use this reel in saltwater and don't know if it is sealed or not. Works just fine.

James : This is not salt water reel!!!!!

EVERYONE READ THIS!!! Before you buy this reel, open the spool cap. Absolutely ZERO rubber seals anywhere!!! I took the whole reel apart and nothing. How in the world is it a saltwater reel?! Doesn’t come close to daiwa BG. I took this reel out once and got splashed by a wave and the smoothness got cut in more then HALF. Freshly bought you can spin the handle and it’ll spin 8-10 times on its own. After use the handle spun 2-4 times on its own and it felt heavier to wind. You’re Saving your money buying a daiwa BG or better

AD : Not a BG but not bad, if you find a good deal

I’m a big BG fan and picked up one of these in 4000 size from warehouse at $53. Crazy deal. For that price it’s good. It’s got the core goodness of the BG and the hex handle isn’t an issue at all- thought it would be. Packed the side plates around bearings with grease to mitigate saltwater from my kayak fishing. That’s fine. Drag is felt, and it isn’t as nice as BG, but it’s totally acceptable. Nice cranking power.
