what's the difference between this and the smokin stone?

Answer: Other than price and one is metal and the other is stone, there is not much of a difference. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Answer: This is a piece of steel that does not block quite as much heat, but does not break if dropped. Cooking on this surface is slightly different as well.

Does this help with flare ups while cooking at high heat? I'm concerned that this would make them worse because it doesn't allow for draining...

Answer: I use this for low and slow indirect cooking. Usually I have a drip pan filled with water on it as well. Theoretically, you should never have flare ups using a Kamado grill.

Answer: The heat deflector is better suited for indirect low and slow methods.

Answer: yeah but the folds point up so they won't just run off. they could collect, run off the three tabs. if you put it on top of the stone, it will just sit on it. If you're doing that, it might be cheaper to just put a round pizza pan on top of the stone.

Does this fit down in the three tabs inside the Akorn firebox?

Answer: Yes mine fit right into the tabs where my stone was. The folds on the edges will point up.

I added this to my AKORN Kamado Char-Griller. It fit perfectly and does the trick. Only wish I'd picked this up earlier. I went through several pizza stones, but this thing should be unbreakable.

used this in my egg bbq. Fits perfectly on the lugs inside the lower half. I cover it in aluminum foil, and place my pan of water on it. Smoked ribs/chicken/sausage. Got great results. Easy to control heat and no overdrying of any of the meat since this forces all the heat into indirect mode.

I want to like this heat deflector but the fit and finish leave a lot to be desired. The deflector is sturdy and made of good material, but the edges are unfinished and sharp. A little bit of deburring would be nice. Also, dimensionally it’s too big. I’ll need to trim about 1/4” off one end so it’ll sit flat like it’s supposed to. I bought this instead of the stone because I was thinking it would be more durable. While it’ll be more durable, I’ll need to modify it to fit and be careful not to cut myself when handling it
