Questions about JORESTECH 8"/200mm Manual Impulse Bag Sealer Heavy Duty Housing and Copper Transformer with Repair Kit 110 Volt (MMS-200)
Q:
when sealing a bag, can it be cut right after it is sealed? or does the bag have to cool first from being heat sealed
Answer: You cut the bag right after it is sealed. It's a very quick and easy process. No need for it to cool at all. You seal the bag and then immediately slide the cutter.
Answer: It can be cut right away. After you press the arm down to achieve the seal you slide the red piece across the arm/lever while it is still in the down position and that's how it's cut. So basically you press the arm down, slide the red piece across and it's sealed and cut.
Answer: Once sealed, it cools very quickly and you cut it right away while it's still in the machine.
Answer: It can be cut right away. This is a very easy product to use. we love it!
Answer: The cutter does not work well. I m not happy with the product. It is kind of dirty and a little rusty too. I contacted them but they said its brand new. Tried to return it but they won't pay for the shipping even though its defective item. Think twice before you buy from them.
Q:
the main description says seal width is .12 " or 3mm But the tech specs says only 2mm or .06" Which is it? Just want for sure Air Tight. Thanks
Answer: It is air tight for sure. We use ours on various thickness' up to 6mil poly and the seal width depends on material thickness and elasticity, time of seal heat, and compression of the spring in the handle. Our products do not require air tight seals, so after we seal the bag, we have to go back and use a hole punch to release the air, or the packaging takes up too much space. If you dial the time up, this thing will melt off doubled up 6mil poly completely, with an air tight seal at about 3mm wide.
Answer: I dont know if its 2 or 3mm. I use mine on 2 mil bags containing light to medium weight products and havent had any problems sealing.
Answer: I have used it to make air pillows for shipping, and they do not leak.
Q:
What does this sealer's specifications say in relation to the maximum material thickness, in mil, it can handle?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I also returned this sealer.... wouldn't even seal 5mil Mylar bags....I'm using a Hair straightener ..gets more than hot enough and is cheap.
Answer: I tried 4 mil is OK, but look like it good up to 8 mil never tried. In this price it is a good quality.
Answer: I don't know. Unit sent to me was not as advertised. Returned for refund
Q:
Is this unit metal and not plastic?
Answer: Hi dear Craig,
Answer: Yes it's metal
Q:
Will the Jorestech seal shrink wrap material, and close CD cases that have been shrink-wrapped?
Answer: It is only good for sealing prior to the shrinking of the shrink wrap material.
Answer: Nope. Just the seal. & I would recommend using a gusseted bag if what your sealing has much thickness to it. I use it for cookies with a half inch thickness and it's fine for that
Answer: yes, just keep in mind the heat gun may cause the seal to separate as the wrap shrink.
Q:
Does the seal cut through the bag so that it can just be pulled off the machine without having to trim with scissors?
Answer: The machine only seals. It does no cut. I use it for sealing individual mylar bags. If used on a roll of material then scissors would be necessary for separating into individual bags.
Answer: If the plastic is thin enough and the timer setting is turned up high enough, then yes. For instance, plastic that is similar in thickness to Zip-Lock bags, it will melt through. Mylar bags will not be cut by this machine.
Answer: No. My husband cuts the bag to size before he seals it.
Answer: You may turn up the heat setting and trying to do so. However, I would not. By doing so, your seal will not look so good.
Answer: No it doesn't have a cutter.
Q:
will it seal mylar bags?
Answer: Dear Nicole,
Answer: Yes. I seal 8mm
Q:
is it possible to get a replacemtent cutter mechanism. I have this heat sealer and mine broke.
Answer: http://mpaksys.homestead.com/sealerparts.html
Q:
can you use 6"width with a 12" sealer
Answer: Yes you can use any size up to and including 12"
Answer: If you mean a 6 inch wide bsg, yes.
Answer: Yes. I do all types of bag sizes and thicknesses in mine
Answer: Bag
Q:
How much clearance does this need to seal properly? What is the minimum amount of bag material necessary to fit into the sealer rail for a good seal?
Answer: The seal is about 1/8". It's probably good to have at least 1/8" clearance outside the seal but it's really up to user control.
Answer: 3-4 mil. There's no minumum.
Q:
2 Questions: Q1) Is it a 2mm or 3mm "wide seal"? & Q2) What's the max "mil thickness" possible for sealing 2 layers of poly material?
Answer: Its a 3mm wide seal. The bags I seal are 2 mil. I use heat setting 3 and it goes up to 8. I imagine several layers could be sealed at heat level 8. If you want more accurate info you could contact them at (305) 594-9000. www.technopackcorp.com
Answer: I have the same response as the other person ...3mm wide , and had no problem sealing, I use it too seal my vacuum bags... Also have used this about a year without any problems...
Q:
Does this sealer come with a cutter like the smaller 16" Jores sealer?
Answer: No Cutter...just the sealer
Answer: No it does not.
Q:
what is the thickness max in inches
Answer: Dear Christal,
Answer: A little over 11 inches.
Answer: Very little..very thin
Q:
Description clearly says "Die Cast" which implies made of metal. Is the case of this unit truly die cast metal?
Answer: It is definitely heavy and metal. Whether die cast, molded or poured or....I really don't know. It is a very sturdy piece.
Answer: It is a metal housing. It's proven itself to be a rugged unit.
Q:
is it possible/feasible to change this to a flat wire sealer?
Answer: Don't know. It gives a great seal. Wide and strong. I have only used it on food saver or like bags. I will be trying flexible cans and metalized pouches this fall. Then into the pressure canner to see if it will hold. have a westson 2300 and that does a great seal too.
Answer: I don't know. Used it about 1/2 dozen times and it stopped working. Use it as a door stop and reminder of my foolishness. Wife gave me old iron - worked much better set on "silk". Save your money.
Q:
What is the exact length of the heating element tip to tip? 12 7/8" or 12 1/4"
Answer: 343 mm, that is 13,5 inches
Q:
Does the cutter make a nice cut or more sloppy?
Answer: The cutter itself provides a clean cut. However, unless you take the time to align the bag perfectly, there will always be a little section on the end that you have to tear manually. It is annoying, but not something that made me regret buying it.
Answer: Once you get a hang of it, it makes a nice neat cut
Answer: I love this unit. I'm a small reseller and have high use, but I like the unit a lot. If you cut <12" the cut is basically perfect. I do some cuts over 12" and have to try to line up for a straight cut. Truth is I do mostly heat shrink stuff so the 12"+ cuts can be off and it's not a big deal. I would say 12"+ cuts are sloppy because of me not the unit.
Answer: This is a sealer rather than a cutter, and it makes a very nice seal. We are really happy with this product.
Q:
do you have 12 inch sealing length?
Answer: Yes, the MMS-300. There is a version with cutter: MMS-300C
Q:
Does this model come with a cutter?
Answer: Hi no this model does not does not wish it did It would come handy however seals well
Answer: No, you can use a box cutter.
Answer: Sorry no it does not have a cutter
Answer: I am not sure I only order this machine I just used scissors
Q:
Will this work on 6mm thick bags?
Answer: Dear Mark,
Answer: Yes. Very nicely
Q:
Does it cut?
Answer: Yes! While having the arm down and heat sealing, you can slide that red shuttle (seen in the picture) the length of the unit to cut about 1cm above your seal.
Answer: yes
Q:
Will it seal cheap flip top sandwich bags (not the ziplock kind)?
Answer: Dear Customer,
Q:
where is the sealer made
Answer: I gave this unit as a gift to a friend and they really like it.
Answer: China
Q:
Do you sale the replacement parts? or the consumable parts?
Answer: Yes, we do sell all the parts and consumables online, but not in Amazon
Q:
can it wrap a cd case
Answer: Dear customer,
Answer: not in the sense of how a "typical" case is wrapped. there will be a seam, not a "fold".
Answer: No
Q:
How wide is the actual seal that is made?
Answer: Dear customer,
Q:
Can i seal cellophane bags with this impulse sealer?
Answer: Yes Eliud, this sealer will work fine for cellophane bags; simply test by regulating the bar heat for your desired finish.
Answer: Yes, you can seal those types of bags on the low heat setting.
Q:
Will this work effectively for sealing mylar storage bags long term? I've been using a hair straightener, for comparison.
Answer: I use mine to mainly seal bags for cookies, but I have also used it to seal other food for storage, like chips, bread crumbs, etc. It has held up fine.
Answer: It should work depending on how heavy the materiel is and sealing temp required to fuse it.
Q:
I bought one of these recently. Does anybody know if a thinner element can be used with this model?
Answer: I bought one a few months ago and love it. I'm not sure if you can mount a "thinner" element, but the one that is in there leaves a thin seal. If I set the proper time, it leaves a 1/16th of an inch seal. If I raise the time slightly more than I need to, it leaves up to a 3/8th of an inch seal. If your looking for less than 1/16th of an inch, I would buy a different machine.
Q:
Will this cut and seal fabric?
Answer: No. This is a heat sealer and will only seal and cut cello and shrink wrap.
Answer: I don't think so -- I think it only seals plastic because it uses heat to seal
Q:
Could this machine work for aluminum foil food bags?
Answer: Dear Rosalina,
Answer: If they are really aluminum foil and only aluminum foil, then no. But I'd bet that you are looking at a metalized plastic bag that's actually a very thin layer of aluminum on a plastic, sealable layer. I would check the product description of the bags you'd like to seal. They'll often be marketed as "heat sealable" if they are, and if so, this machine will likely do the trick.
Answer: If it's really thin then maybe.. it doesn't get hot enough or stay on long enough for medium to thick bags to seal with multiple tries over the same spot.
Q:
I just bought this, opened the box, and there was no owner's manual or instruction manual. I have absolutely no idea how to use this.
Answer: I emailed them about this and this is the response I got back: Thank you for patiently waiting. Currently we do not have a physical manual for this item as is mostly intuitive the operation of the machine but you might need someone like our technicians to explain how to replace the heating elements or the PTFE strips. Please contact our technical support at 305.594.9000 for any inquiries on the operation of your machine. We are working in a physical manual but we do not have it available yet.
Answer: I bought one and there was no manual too - but it's pretty easy. Just plug the cord in and turn the dial to about 2 for cello bags. The machine heats up pretty fast, give it a minute or 2 and then you can start sealing the bags. Put the bag on the sealer and press down the handle, cello bag takes about 2 seconds to seal. Play around with temperature to see what works best for you. There's also a cutter/slider on the, just slide it when you want to cut the excess off. Hope this helps! (There are also youtube videos if you need a visual!) Good Luck!
Answer: Just insert any plastic bags where do you want to sealed them and adjust the temperature independ on thickness. Apply a little force on the handle and that's it.
Answer: Use the smallest number setting that will seal, wait 1 second after the red light goes out. Slide the cutter.
Q:
where can i purchase just the tape and the wires? I already have the machine itself but need the refills. Thanks
Answer: Hi dear Jenni,
Q:
What is the sealing width on this item?
Answer: Hi dear customer,
Answer: the sealing width on this item is 16"
Answer: 16 in.
Q:
Hi what is the max seal thickness for poly on this?
Answer: If you mean thick as in mils of poly. I have not gone there yrt. The bead is wide. and very strong. I have not used the max setting yet. I will be testing on thicker and metalized retort style pouches soon. Check back in a few months
Answer: The website from the manufacturer states the max thickness is 6ml. That's pretty thick but my guess is that it would seal thicker material, based on my experience with it.
Q:
Can this be used around the kitchen as well? Like resealing salad bags, cereal bags or chip bags?
Answer: I am unsure. You need to check with the manufacture bacause the composite makeup of mateials of each individual bag differs.
Answer: Yes, IF the material is sealable
Answer: I would say yes it could
Answer: yes
Q:
What thickness (gauge) plastic can be used with this sealer?
Answer: I am unsure; we have used on all sorts of thickness - mainly 1 to 2 mil, so we use the lower settings of heat. For thicker bags it can be turned up.
Q:
How far away from the seal does the cutter cut?
Answer: Dear Mark,
Q:
Will this seal 5.4 mylar bags? Will it seal 7 mil mylar bags? Thank you!
Answer: IF they are bags AND the material is sealable then YES
Answer: not sure bought as gift for a friend.
Q:
Does this have any NRTL or UL certification?
Answer: Nowhere on the product or on the box does it say it is certified by anyone. Mine works fine.
Q:
What i realy should have ask is can i use any width as long as its not over the sealer 12" I want to use 3" wide poly tubing
Answer: Yes. I use several smaller tubes in my 12" and it works just fine. Just remember to check the bag thickness. I used a thinner bag without adjustimg and it didnt go so well
Answer: Yes...even over 12 I do twice
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is there a wider heating element available? I see it ships with a 2mm. 5-8 mm would be ideal
Answer: Hi Nick,
Q:
Will this sealer work for 20" mylar bags... or do the bags have to be somewhat smaller that its 20" length?
Answer: This product failed to heat after the first use.
Q:
Do you have a 18" hand impulse sealer
Answer: No
Q:
Is this a die cast sealer with 650 watts?
Q:
I have to press down very hard for it to work. It seals just fine but I didn't have to push so hard with my other unit. Is this normal for this model?
Answer: If you can get it to seal you are doing better than I was. I ended up returning it because it wouldn't seal my mylar bags.
Answer: I press firm but I would not call it hard. 4 seconds is all that's needed
Answer: You should not have to press hard. It seems as though you are not getting a good connection.
Answer: May be because the handle is heavy. But you do have to use both hands and push hard.
Answer: I don’t know... I’m sure it depends on the thickness of the bag you’re sealing.
Answer: try adjusting the setting knob to see if that helps
Q:
and thanks for the answer attempt but I am asking width of seal. Most say 3mm wide or more. Your mention of 2mil...that is thickness of material... not ?
Q:
What is the part number for spare blades?
Answer: Dear Ken,
Answer: You can go to this link for a sealer kit. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=w_bl_hsx_s_ki_web_0?ie=UTF8&search-alias=aps&field-keywords=Sealer+Supply+16%22+kit

Answer: Hi,
Answer: Search jorestech sealer element kit on amazon. They sell the kits.
Q:
I bought the 12" sealer with cutter a couple months ago and can't find replacement parts...can you help me find elements, teflon and cutters that fit?

Product reviews of JORESTECH 8"/200mm Manual Impulse Bag Sealer Heavy Duty Housing and Copper Transformer with Repair Kit 110 Volt (MMS-200)
Violette Struvay : In LOVE!
I am a super organized person and this is just the perfect instrument for me.
It seals plastic perfectly. Everything i have is now in little bags.
It has a con thoug, when it gets too hot it's starts burning the plastic too much.
So the temperature is very sensitive....
Tessey : Been Using it for 9 years
I have been using mine for 9 years without any issues. Ordered a new one today only because the heating element for the first time broke. I can't remember where I put the replacement one it comes with. This has been a workhorse for me. I use this to seal heavy rolled plastic into custom bags and I also seal bubble rape into bag shapes instead of buying already made ones.
Taylor c : Came already used. Not a new listing
Came like it had already been used. Scratches and rust appearance on it
TJ : Seals and cuts game changer !
Finally bought this and I wish I had bought it sooner ! Works great easy to use and you can seal and cut . This size is perfect no need to get the larger one
WiperMaster : For my use, the cutter is not sharp enough.
I bought this solely because of the cutter. For my use, the cutter is not sharp enough.
Karen S : Love this sealer
This works excellent on my 3mm polytubing. I like that I don't have to worry about shutting it off or turning it on and it is quick.
Works great even after months of use!
Amber Parker : Horrible
Didn't work, right out of the box. No option to return. Purchased a 3 year warranty - wont cover it.
Buyer : Very good!
This machine is doing a great joy for sealing my products.
Jacqueline A. Rose : The top keeps crashing down - should have had a ...
The top keeps crashing down - should have had a spring or something to keep it from crashing down. The cut is a little out from the seal so i keep having to hand trim the seam.
Sheryl Witter : Works well
It is sturdy and works very well
eddie w. : Do Not Waste Your Money-Buy the Better Brand
Ordered this and it started burning one end causing the packages to not seal after 20-30 uses. I asked to return and I was denied a return because it had been more than 30 days. I got it on August 1, 2018 and tried to return on September 10, 2018. Mind you I was out of town for three weeks and didn’t even use it till the end of the month. I should have known I would get what I paid for. Do not purchase this item if you are wanting to use it for shipping. It won’t seal your items correctly. Yes I know what I doing. They first couple of packages I did there was no problems and then all of a sudden a hot spot.
DMBarry : Not what I thought
This crimper did not work as I thought it would. I bought another one in its place and that one works much better. Wasted a lot of plastic wrap for my soaps. A very thin plastic I might add. This does not work well. Well, the one I received didn't.
ESTHER KIM : Poor design and quality. Overpriced replacement parts.
Works well and still holds up after many months. One thing i noticed is that there is wear in the blade that cuts the vinyl wrapping. It isnt much of a problem, but it will be in the future. Still, it is to be expected. Will update review once it starts to fail completely.
Update 12/06/18
Product works.. however, the design is extremely poor. Almost seems as though the design flaw is incorporated to keep up continued sales of replacement parts. Contacted manufacturer who declined to answer my inquiry regarding the issue. Left an honest review on their website only to have it taken immediately. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME on this product.
Jonathan Smith : Love it!
This is what I was needing! Perfect to glcreate your own Polly bags without the cost. You can even make bubble packaging with this amazing thing to fill up the box a little more. The sliver is convenient and works perfectly!
Amy Karwoski : Was nice
I initially loved this this sealer and cutter, but I purchased this in April and it already stopped working(in July). Super disappointed as it wasn’t a cheap purchase.

Donna B. : Quit working after first use
I know this is a year old but I just wanted to tell you how very disappointed I am with this product. I am a cookier and bought this to seal cookies bags. The first time I used it was great. I was very pleased with the performance. I put it away and did not have the opportunity to use it again one year later. It is still in its original box. I got it out plugged it in and got nothing! I did everything in my small electrical knowledge to make the darn thing work but to no avail. It was not damaged, dropped or misused. It just quit. So I guess buyer beware.
Taylor c : Came already used. Not a new listing
Came like it had already been used. Scratches and rust appearance on it
Flavio : Great ????
This works great. The blades is supper sharp. Great for packaging items for our business.
BookLen : It works absolutely great! It simplifies my work greatly
I bought this cutter almost 2 months ago and wrapped over 300 products. It works absolutely great! It simplifies my work greatly. Love it!
Amazon Customer : Happy sealer
This unit is very compact and easy to use. Works great on all kinds of bags since you can adjust the impulse timer. Very sturdy and the heating elements can be easily replaced.
dogzrul : Unit gets damaged if used over setting 4
This and the inexpensive dark blue plastic bodied sealer can only be used a the lowest of settings.
The plastic version burned through elements first every few days, then after that every few seals. After a great deal of frustration, lost productivity and several calls to the supplier they told me it could only be used at settings of 4 or under. The problem with that is that at those low temps it doesn't seal effectively. Their Support person recommended this metal model for twice the price and I had the exact same experience. What is the point of having higher settings if they will damage the machine and pop the elements?
Both units came from the same supplier and the supplier refused to cover return shipping, which even when boxing them together was almost the same as the purchase price. One of the most frustrating overall purchase experiences I've had through Amazon. These could be good and easily portable units if they had been made a bit more robust.

MyReviews : It's a coin toss for me
Don't know how to rate it, 50/50 I suppose. The second one I bought has been great, hundreds of seals with the same original element and cover; seals fast and completely. But the first one, which is identical in every way, except it has a Technopack sticker on it, was a complete dud. Burned out elements fairly regular, and the little screws that hold these stainless strips which hold the Teflon cover on, stripped out quickly, 6 out of the 8 anyway. So I would tape them down, but had to switch the elements so often it was a royal pain, so next figured I'd put some slightly larger screws in, and it didn't like that at all. Made a noise similar to my old old electric train set. But it shouldn't have shorted on anything, I used the same length screws. just a hair fatter. Haven't given up on it yet though, took it completely apart, it's a simple mechanism, I'm going to contact Technopack to see if I can either buy the guts to it so I can replace or send to them to fix, if feasible. Or at least give them the chance to redeem themselves, I thought that's just the way it was, worked okay but had to replace elements all the time. Then I bought the second one from another seller and saw how it should be.
What I'd like to say of both, but only can about the second one without the corporation sticker, is that it's a fantastic and amazing device.
Yucel Sifontes : Its a good sealer if you plan on using it on an ...
Okay sealer for a very affordable price. I purchased two for every day use and after 5 months of using one. Its not always sealing evenly. The blade on the cutter also wore out very quickly in the first two months. Its a good sealer if you plan on using it on an occasional basis. If you want one that's going to last a little longer I might go with a different brand.
Tanya : I haven't had a chance to see if the seal hold better with standard poly bags
Purchased this to seal Shrink bags down to size prior to shrink wrapping them and it does't seal, it tears right open. I have to either tape the seam or double seal it for the seam to hold. I haven't had a chance to see if the seal hold better with standard poly bags, since I don't use these too often.
Idaho Hunter : Seems to seal well
I bought this to go into my homemade vacuum chamber cabinet. It has the wider sealing width which is nice if doing retort bags. So far, it has been working well.
KSquared : Great Impulse Sealer
This impulse sealer has been great for sealing bags of cookies for the holiday season. The only issue I've had with it is the cutter. It doesn't always cut very well (sometimes there are some jagged edges when it cuts and it won't cut straight), but overall, I really like this product.
Amazon Customer : Just fine for crafts etc
Works just fine. Use it for crafts

MC Dog : HIghly recommended
Previously ordered the 247 8" sealer--Dead on Arrival & electrical poorly made--reviews on this one were "hit & miss". Returned it to Amazon & ordered the Jorestech instead--much better made & works wonderfully. The additional cutter makes finishing the sealed bags a breeze. Sealed over 200 bags of cookies & snacks over the weekend, not a glitch. Overall, well worth the $20 difference in cost between the two, wouldn't bother with the other one, but definitely recommend the Jorestech, no question.

This really came in handy! It seals all kinds of bags. Zip lock bags too!
SAB-LA : Would not recommend
Purchased this product a while ago back and it stopped working. Poor construction or quality, but I would not recommend it.
B.H. : Received an imitation - not Jores
The impulse sealer I received is NOT the same item pictured or described on Amazon.com. Should be a Jores as stated with heavy cord and 3-prong plug as shown in the picture. There is no manufacturer name on the item I received and the cord is thin and has only a two-prong plug. This is a cheap imitation - will not buy from Metronics again.
Brian : One Star
My item didn’t even start. Received a defect.
Amazon Customer : Happy sealer
This unit is very compact and easy to use. Works great on all kinds of bags since you can adjust the impulse timer. Very sturdy and the heating elements can be easily replaced.
BookLen : It works absolutely great! It simplifies my work greatly
I bought this cutter almost 2 months ago and wrapped over 300 products. It works absolutely great! It simplifies my work greatly. Love it!
P Faison : Impulse Sealer for business use
I sell on Amazon and this is a great tool to have for shrink up your products. Amazon requires certain types of items to either be in a plastic bag or shrink wrap. I recently shrink wrapped some vitamins and the machine worked fine but sometimes i noticed that the shrink wrap plastic will stick to the top of the sealer when I separate the item from the sealer. This may be the result of the machine being to hot. I not quite sure yet. But I am glad I brought it.
Scott Thomas : Incredible. This is so efficient and makes my bag sealing twice as fast as the machine I was using before. Plus no warm-up time.
Incredible. This is so efficient and makes my bag sealing twice as fast as the machine I was using before. Plus no warm-up time. I just bought another!
Amazon Customer : Just fine for crafts etc
Works just fine. Use it for crafts
SNW : Cookies stay fresh
Great product! Easy to use! Heat seals and cuts my cookie bags perfectly!
Mandi K : Defective :(
As soon as I plugged it in, it started smoking and burned through the first PTFE sheet.
Changed the sheet and the heating element out and it burned through again by the second bag I sealed. The timer also doesn’t seem to work I have it on 1 and tried at 2 also. I didn’t leave the arm down to seal for more than three seconds at a time, but the led light never went off.
It also didn’t seal the bags right, it just melted it off, it’s like it’s running much too hot.
