Questions about Z Grills ZPG-7002B 2020 Upgrade Wood Pellet Grill & Smoker, 8 in 1 BBQ Grill Auto Temperature Controls, inch Cooking Area, 700 sq in Black
Q:
Is this good for grilling (burgers, hot dogs, chicken), or is it more of a smoker? Does it take a lot longer that propane for those items?
Answer: I grill a ton with it. It can take longer than a propane grill. No matter what I grill I turn it to the highest temp, let it preheat about 10 minutes, the put ge meat on. Steak take 20-30 minutes depending on how you like them. Chicken 20-15 minutes. The thing is that it cooks evenly and you don’t have to check it. Set a timer to flip once then a timer to take it off. Easy. I love mine.
Answer: Yes, I’ve cooked hotdogs and hamburgers...just turn it up to 375. Might take a bit longer for hamburgers than a propane grill and there’s no flame hitting the burgers, but the taste is great.
Answer: It’s more of a smoker, slow cooker. Not to good for grilling. I’ve used it a lot to cook roast.
Answer: It is great for all that and takes the same amount of time as a propane bbq. We absolutely love it and u can cook so many different ways.
Answer: It is good for grilling as well as smoking and it also has a temperature control. Takes ten minutes to fire up.
Answer: Works great for grilling, it gets up to temp quickly and cooks just as fast as propane.
Answer: You can use it both ways to do burgers and such just remove the heat shield so you can do direct heat
Q:
Does it come with a bucket on the side to catch grease. I see a holder
Answer: Yes it comes with a bucket to catch the grease and it also comes with a grill cover. I absolutely love this grill and it is so easy to clean.
Answer: Yes, the bucket is very small, but if you cook with lean cuts much of the grease will collect on fill on the drip pan inside. It is easy to dispose of the foil when necessary. But a roll of extra wide foil and it is all one piece.
Answer: Yes it comes with a very nice bucket
Answer: Sure does! Works like a charm too
Answer: Yes it does, the only thing you will need after assembly is pellets.
Answer: Yes and a cover also.
Answer: Yes
Q:
can you use any pellets or do you need to buy the z grill pellets?
Answer: I use Treager Pellets, a blend that I buy at Costco. You can use any brand but research first as there are many different variations in quality and materials.
Answer: any pellets work fine. Academy has good selection and Walmart does to.
Answer: Seems you can use any brand as long as they are pellets and not chips
Q:
Any problems with rust
Answer: I have had my Z grill for 19 months and no rust at all however I have a cover for it and keep under my upper deck
Answer: Sorry have not had it long enough for rust, but it is a awesome grill and it comes with a cover
Answer: I have own it for a few weeks. So the answer is no. However, the unit is built solid. I dint think i will have issuea with it.
Answer: No so far. I've only had it a couple months. I use it all the time. It's great.
Q:
Does this come with the internal temperature probes?
Answer: Yes, there is a probe, inside the grill, that monitors the temperature and adjusts pellet consumption correspondingly.
Answer: For the grill but not the meat
Answer: No it does not
Answer: No it is not incl7
Answer: Yes it does.
Q:
does this model have the upgraded temperature control and will it keep temperature within 15 degrees of set temperature
Answer: I know this is the newest model. I'm not sure if it is the upgraded temperature control or not, but I've cooked several meals on it since I purchased this grill, the most I've seen the temperature vary is 5 degrees. I've smoked jerky for 8 hours in freezing temps and this gem maintained a good temperature. I also cooked our Christmas goose on it for 4 hours in cool to cold outside temps, still maintained the proper temperature.
Answer: Look, I have owned my grill just over 1yr...."0" issues...within 15°?? Never paid attention....but...not 1 bad meal yet....just watch your internal temp....most of the peolle overthink these grills....season or marinade...put on smoke setting 2 or 3 hrs....then raise temp around 200-250...now keep an eye 9n "Internal temp"
Answer: I have seen no wide variance in temps being held close to set amount...certainly within 15 degrees or less.
Answer: I've had no trouble keeping a constant temperature 5 to 10 degrees.
Answer: Mine holds within 5°+/- set temperature
Answer: This grill works amazing ...finally got to use it when I got home in November. Put it through the paces with a few prime ribs and individual rib eyes...all perfect and yes it holds temp within 5 degrees
Q:
How long does it take to assemble?
Answer: Took me about an hour or so. It comes mostly assembled. You have to put together the pedestal and put the burner in place. It is really pretty simple.

Answer: Depends on your dexterity and cordination

Answer: Home Depot sells a $19 shop vac called a "buckethead" that works well on pellets and ash.
Answer: I don't change to different pellets that often but they dip out easily.
Q:
Does this come with pellets?
Answer: It appears that this newer model comes with a cover instead of pellets. When I bought mine almost two years ago it came with pellets. I however would have preferred the cover. Answer: It does not come with pellets when you initially order it. You will have to order pellets in order to use it.
Q:
my z-grill smoker feeds the pellets to fast. How do I slow them down?

Answer: I bought my from Amazon in the US. It is 120V AC standard electrical outlet. The reason I say that I bought it in the US, outside the US many countries have 220V AC as standard outlets. But nothing special is needed.
Answer: 120 just go ahead and buy it I absolutely love mine I'm just having a problem getting a receipt that proves I bought it so I can send it to z grill without it I have no warranty I just don't know how to get one I've tried everything I'm not very good on a computer wish Amazon would just send z grill one

Answer: Not with the auger system used on this unit.

Answer: At highest heat I am able to get a great sear/crust on my ribeyes. Just make sure that it hits the highest temperature and is there for a while before placing your meat on it.
Q:
Is this able to smoke cheese?
Answer: The lowest setting is too high to smoke most cheeses, I would recommend a smoke tube instead.

Does this grill pair with an app for digital monitoring?
Answer: No it won’t. I’d highly recommend you buy a different brand. I bought one of these and it was very erratic in temp control. The seal between the lid and body left gap that needed a seal applied. I never cooked on mine and just sent it back. So, buyer beware.

Q:
How many cooking sessions do you get per bag of pellets?

Q:
Why is the manufacturer of Z grill not fixing the temperature control problem with there grill
Answer: I'm not sure about that. I bought a probe thermometer for reading internal meat temps and the smoking area. Seems to be a good method so far.
Q:
what is the pellet surge system?
Answer: As i understand it, your preset temperature setting correlates with a predetermined mix of fan time and pellet auger duration to hold that temperature. Higher desired temperatures result in more fan run time and longer pellet augering cycles.

Answer: I'd guess 16ga (.0598") to 14ga (.0747")
Q:
How do i get ahold of the seller? I purchased this smoker on 4/30/20, and it still has not shipped. I am just wondering when it will ship?

My email is rdavidnsa at gmail if you find a place to get parts. if you shoot me an email I will let you know if I get my parts and send you the info. Thanks David

Product reviews of Z Grills ZPG-7002B 2020 Upgrade Wood Pellet Grill & Smoker, 8 in 1 BBQ Grill Auto Temperature Controls, inch Cooking Area, 700 sq in Black
Mason Troendle : Auger failed durring long smoke and fire started in pellet hopper.
Bought this grill in the spring. Loved it the entire time I have owned it. I do not know the exact malfunction, but while on a long smoke, fire built back into the hopper and fried the controler. I am hoping it was a fluke incident, but now I am without a grill. I keep up very well on cleaning the ash out with the shop vac.
PL9 : Sold-damaged product
This product was damaged. The barrel has two bows under lid and porcelain is bubbling and not all on the main rack. It won’t let me post photos. Customer Service asked for pictures and then never responded back!
Arthur Hamilton : Dream machine
Perfection in every way! Easy to assemble, built like a battleship to last, attractive, and it smokes like a dream. Customer service was on the spot replacing a missing part immediately. Maintains temperature within +/- 5° nicely. Cleans up quickly after use. Could not possibly ask more of a smoker.
German Salazar : Not happy
It last only 5 bbq
palmtreefree : Just get a Traeger
After less than a year, the auger stopped turning. After cleaning out the entire chamber, the auger would still not turn. After a while, the grill would not turn on. Keep in mind I have had this product for less than a year with a total usage of about 10-15 times. I recommend just getting a better product that lasts.
KndlPWendl : From a first timer pellet grill owner
This is my first pellet grill so I’ve got no basis for comparison. A few notes from a first timer:
Cooked my first whole chicken last night. Absolutely fantastic! Temperature was about +/- 5 degrees. Can’t wait to do the Thanksgiving turkey.
Unlike what I’ve read about the Traeger, there is no easy way to remove unused pellets. Evidently, they absorb moisture and clog up the auger if you don’t. I had to use my shop vac which kind of ruined them.
I knew ambient temperature would affect pellet use, but it used a LOT more than I expected on a 40 degree day.
Smoke does come out through the lid, but I don’t see where that affected the food. I don’t know if more expensive grills are sealed tighter or not.
I LOVE that I could open the lid enough to see my meat thermometer and only lose about 10 degrees. Got back up to temperature very quickly.
Unless you are storing it inside, don’t even think about saving $30 and buying one without the cover.
It took me about 2 hours to put it together by myself. Instructions aren’t great but are adequate. Very heavy and feels like a quality piece of equipment.
All in all, assuming it holds up, I couldn’t be more pleased especially since the one I got was $150 less through the third party than the other seller. I could never justify paying $1000 for a name brand one.
willy : Works great
Works as advertised. There is some temp fluctuation but given how pellet grills function temp flucuation will be hard to avoid. I have used mine a dozen times or so and have no complaints.
Linnea : Will not turn on and no help from customer service.
I bought this for my husbands birthday and we were so excited. I had my brother help me put it together. After several hours we got it put together but it wouldn't heat up. We followed the instructions and waited for the auger to turn. Nothing. I tried a few things and did all the trouble shooting but after 45 min I finally called customer service and they literally told me to wait longer, I waited for 45 min+ but she said to just wait. So I waited another 25 minutes with the lady on the line asking me every two minutes if anything was happening. She said to try again later after my husband got home. So we gave it to my husband a few hours later and he tried again. He also called CS with the same "just wait longer" comment. At this point we have waited and tried it for over 2.5 hours. We then got hung up on. Since then I have called the company 5 times with ZERO calls back. My husband has called 4 and heard back once. He has also e-mailed them and did get a response which they corresponded several times, they said they would send out a new part and that it would be here in a few days. After 4 days my husband emails letting them know we were still waiting, "be patient" they said it will be here within a few days. That was over two weeks ago, 3 more e-mails asking where is it and "just be patient and wait a little longer" responses. Amazon has been awesome and helping us replace it but the Z Grill customer service and company are not pleasant to work with, hard to understand and rude. We just spent almost $500, "just wait longer" is not the response needed. And we are willing to be patient and wait if we got more info than those short simple phrases. The company is not worth dealing with.
Nostrajamus : A perfect smoker and grill
I love my new smoker. Very easy to use as you can dial in the temperature you want. So far I have done pulled pork, beef ribs, pork spareribs, steaks, and all have come out perfectly. Thanks to the auto-pellet feed all you have to worry about is spraying on your favorite moistener or slathering on your favorite BBQ sauce. I can't recommend this smoker/grill enough, especially compared to the much more expensive Traegers on the market.
Dorrien : I love this grill
This grill is great. My first pellet grill and I haven't stopped cooking on it yet. Did my first brisket and it was a hit! Di wagyu beef, salmon, veggies, sausages, hot dogs, etc. Has plenty of room and the next thing will be a smoked gator! Easy to put together and easy to use. The fact that it comes with a cover is a plus.
Mike : Z Grills ZPG-7002B
Just got my grill today. I have been so excited to get my first pellet grill and be able to use it on Superbowl weekend. It's not made as solid as I would have liked. Packaging was good. I think the UPS man must have rolled iij t off the truck and crushed a corner, as you can see by the pics. The grill is sturdy, has a nice finish, and looks ready to grill. I am still upset it's not as good as the Pit Boss 700 at WalMart, it is heavy and ceramic coated. But hey it's my first one and sure I will get years of good use from it, as long as I do my part and take good care of her. Cant wait to fire this thing up and get to smoking some wings, ribs, brisket, chicken. Oh....I'm gonna be eating healthy, maybe not healthy portions....lol
Carlos Martinez : Replacement Required
First grill that I was shipped did not work. I was disappointed at the fact customer service offered and sent parts to correct. After that didn’t work I requested a refund and that they come pick up their grill. They offered to replace it completely and I went ahead and agreed. That being said, the replacement grill has worked great. I’ve only used it a couple of times now and the only issue I have now is that the temp seems to be off by 60 degrees sometimes. I’ll continue to use and report back if it doesn’t seem to level out.
Cameron Logan : Well built smoking machine
I have had this grill for about a couple weeks and love it! The grill space is excellent and I love that the hopper holds a whole bag of pellets. I have used it grilling and smoking. The one that sold me was a brisket this weekend I smoked it for 12 hours without any problems in 12-25 degree weather.
I have 2 minor complaints. I had the grill set on 180 degrees for the brisket and it seemed to have some high swings up to 215 but then it would drop down. It's not a huge deal but I wish it wasn't quite as drastic. The other complaint is where the hopper assembly attaches to the barrel seems a bit weak. When you pick up the smoker to wheel it around the hopper moves and isn't as secure as I would like it to the barrel. I am going to fix it with some angle iron so it's not the end of the world.
But overall I love this grill/smoker it's just as good if not better then my traeger it replaced.
W. Mckasson : Buyer beware this is not a quality American made product
Overheats and will not stay at proper heat setting. I set it to 225, it goes up to 260 or so. It's infuriating. Zgrills thanks you for their purchase by cramming every item into a box so tight that the packing styrofoam explodes on opening and gets everywhere. Weird scuffs and sticky material on the outside of the grill. The thin cheapness of the legs showed right away when assembling you can feel the flimsiness of the materials used. Break out your reading magnifying glasses to be able to read the instructions or see the font on the packing hardware slip, which appears to be a size 6 or size 8 font, impossible to read without it being 2 inches from your face. Hopper kinda works as advertised. Temperature regulates ok, but I would expect better heat retention when I open the lid for a second the temperature goes way way down. This thing eats pellets for breakfast lunch and dinner.
Overall I should have known better when I saw the price. I got a cheap traeger knock off and got exactly what I paid for. A cheap piece of Chinese garbage. I wish Amazon would highlight better when a product is made in communist China. All in all I'm pretty disappointed in this $500 grill, I should have gotten the traeger. Lesson learned I guess
Daniel : Good smoker, only a smoker
This is a pretty good smoker for the money. However, that is all it is. Forget the whole 8 in 1 stuff from the Amazon listing, this is just a smoker. You aren't going to grill a burger on this, you're gonna smoke a burger on this. It's not an oven or whatever else the listing claimed. It's just a smoker.
Other than the Amazon listing, I've got only some minor gripes with it as a smoker.
First, it has a huge hopper for the pellets, but there's no way to empty it. So I'm stuck with my current pellets until they run out I guess. No easy switching to match the meat you're smoking.
I'd like more precise temperature control. Kinda has low, med, high rather than setting an exact temp. Close enough for most things though.
I love the drip tray/bucket. Much better than my old smoker. Assembly was a breeze. The wheels are very nice, not cheap plastic like on a lot of grills.
dragneel2000 : Smoke them meats
Great grill easy to clean, nice controls, smokes beautifully. I have smoked ribs, pork butt, brisket, wings and even crank it to high to grill burgers, sausages, stakes, pork chops. I. Only thing I didn't like was how flimsy the legs are. The metal in the legs is very thin and can easly be bent. The grill cover is heavy duty and thick. Over all I am impressed with the grill.
Lisa : Trouble maintaining low temperatures
Product easy to assemble and works great for a pork shoulder. I have used it about 10 times so far. However when trying to smoke ribs doing the 3,2,1 method it’s very difficult for this smoker to maintain a low temp. Whenever I have it to smoke or 180 temperature always seems to be around 225. Easy to assemble and using it is as simple as switching on a switch
Exploring Parents : Finally decided to return after find out that we can’t deal with missing parts and damaged item
The grill arrived damage parts and missing parts and can’t able to install or properly use it as needed.
Also the wheels are stuck and not moving easily and heavy to lift.
Stay away from it if you can find better item with best price in my opinion.
Artur : I wouldn’t buy it again
It was a poor experience with this grill. After it broke the customer service agent sent me part but I had to replace them myself. It broke again and it has a problem holding the temperature. I would not recommend this brand.
Teri : I'd pass, buy a bigger name brand
We bought December 2020, used twice and it started throwing error codes... Come to find out it needed a new electrical panel. We had to install ourselves. Used it twice after the new install and now doesn't work AGAIN! Customer service requires you to leave a message. No real person.
3DFreek : Best cooker for all year grilling
Don't buy named brands... This is the one to buy for half the cost of the traegar brand. Also, buy a 2 probe thermometer... Cook by temperature is so much easier. All the meats we have cooked, chicken, ribeye, flat iron, ribeye burgers, regular burgers, etc, come out juicier than ordinary propane grills.. be sure to let the meat rest 10 minutes before cutting to allow time for the meat to absorb all of the juices after cooking. This is my first time with a smoker, I'm hooked and will always use a smoker from now on... Thanks ZGrills!
Kimberly M. : Customer Service SUCKS
I purchased the ZPG-7002B pellet smoker/grill in 2020 with extended warranty. I was so excited about getting this. First off, upon delivery, UPS dropped the grill and bent the back side and leg. No replacement was offered. I have only been able to use this grill one time. Started getting the error code Er2. I have called customer service numerous times. I have yet been able to speak with a live person. I leave messages, send emails. When they do try to call, phone will ring one time, and they hang up. I call them back immediately, and only get a recorded message. I'm very frustrated, so far it's been a big waste of money! They need to work on their communication with their customers. Their customer support is only there M-F 9am-5:30pm (California). I do not recommend the purchase of anything from ZGrills.
JK : Happy with the Z-Grill
Very happy with this product. I am a first time pellet grill user and it was relatively easy to use. The temperature control is good. The digital temperature gauge does show that the temperature go up and down when the pellets are being fed but give a few minutes and appears adjust back. I was out of town when it arrived so. I had my teenage son put it together and he said it wasn’t too difficult to do. All in all I am pleased with this grill.

Michele Ealy : You need to be familiar with wood pellet grills before purchase cuz no instructions come with it
Love the grill they would have been a lot better if they would have send instructions on temperatures end times for any kind of cooking. We had to Google info on it and that was a hassle in itself. Send books with future orders the people would deeply appreciate it sucks getting a grill and you don't even know how to work it... The manufacturer doesn't even consider giving you information on usage
Big Reabs : Just spend the money for the real thing...
First few uses were great, then the “quality” went down hill. We used the grill about 10 times and followed all directions as suggested. The temperature was set at 350, put the pork on for 6 hours, and I go to check the temp of the meat and it was only at 98 degrees. I don’t think much of it and come back an hour later. Still same temp!
I always cleaned the grill after each use, and the response I got from Z Grill was to check the ash.
Checked the ash, no excessive ash... fired it back up and turned to 350 and the actual temperature got to roughly 145!
After 10ish uses, I’m now stuck with a grill that doesn’t work. Sad that it’s already a broken grill. I should have spent the money on the real thing (Traeger)!
JL : Jackpot grill excellent
Happy I purchased this smoker. I was thinking about what type of grill to buy. I went back an fourth between charcoal, propane, an electric smokers/ grills. Decided to buy this after doing some research an I’m happy I bought it. I can grill an smoke without buying 2 different items. I’m not a pro so this is nice just wasn’t to have cook outs an enjoy the food. I’m not in competitions so don’t care an didn’t want to spend a fortune on a grill/smoker.
Assembly very east an simple didn’t take long about a 1 hr. Don’t know why some people say it takes hours because it doesn’t.
Temperature to me it holds temperatures very well. One thing I noticed is that temps don’t hold well if it’s to windy or cold. If you want it to hold temps in those conditions go propane I guess.
Like I said I’m not a professional smoker but it does the job an I look up recipes to try out which is fun to do in my opinion.
Food taster so much better with wood pellets an everything seems to be more tender also. I would recommend this grill/smoker to anyone it’s great for the buck.
Akira Yamamoto : Excellent Grill!!
I’ve had gas and charcoal grills in the past, but this pellet grill is the best one of them all. It’s not as quick as gas grills, and also it cooks differently, but as a steak lover, I think I’ll stay with pellets. As far as this particular model is concerned, easy to assemble, instructions are clear, looks great when it is done. A beautiful grill. It’s been only a week but have used it multiple times, entertained guests, etc. with great successes.
T. Whiting : What Quality Control?
I ordered this product, soooo excited to get started smoking things....
The box came, EVERYTHING just crammed in together. It literally took me an HOUR to get everything out of the box, it was that crammed together.
First thing I noticed? The grill itself had paint chipped off and was bent Second thing? The chamber was so massively damaged that you couldn't get the legs IN
No worries, I figured it must just be an anomaly, right? Mailed zgrills
Replacement chamber arrived today.. SAME EXACT DAMAGE. Literally, so massively bent that you cannot get the leg inside of it.
They didn't even BOTHER to send me a replacement grill like they said they would.
After reading the reviews about temperature, I'm halfway tempted to just send this thing back to Amazon and go with a Traeger, but that'd involve a LOT of repacking :( . Will have to see what "support" says and if they get my issue actually FIXED
P. Stenzel : Smokes good, cool down and shut off feature
Pros: Smokes good, cool down and shut off feature, large grilling surface, with upper grill, even heat, Bright temp control with live digital readout, bottom shelf, sturdy heavy gauge metal construction and heavy duty wheels, not the cheap plastic ones. Pellet bin can be used as a work shelf 40 lbs of free pellets worth $60 Cooks juicy even cooked meat with smoke flavor also adjustable. Undeniably flavorful and good. There is an access hole in the side of the grill for meat probe wire, eliminating closing lid on the wire. Excellent warranty and customer service
Cons: Out of production. The new model grill is smaller for the same price but is made of stainless steel. There is no Pellet shoot if you want to replace with a different type of pellets. There is no clean-out for the ash in the fire box. The existing probe wire access hole in the side is too close to the grill possibly burning of damaging your probe wire.
Not a con but nice options to look for: There is no meat probe or jack in the controller. You have to supply your own probe with its own controller. No optional equipment like a front shelf, right side shelf, sear box, or grill cover As to accommodate for a sear box or work shelf on the right side the chimney stack should be mounted in the rear.
Not a con but a pat on the back for excellent customer service. After one month of use, I had a faulty on/off switch burn out. The supplier Fed-X next day all the parts needed to repair. The repair took less than 15 minutes as it was plug and play (see photos)
LLC : Stopped working 9 months in
Well it stopped working after 9 months. The ventilator works but the auger and the heating part stopped working. Very disappointed
zachsmyangel : Simply AMAZING!
I have friends with name brand smokers & didn't noitice a difference!
First, this arrived 5 days before the estimated delivery date! that alone would get nearly 5 stars! But... My 15 year old son was able to assemble it on his own with a little help from my fiance (there were some things that needed more than 2 hands)... WIN! When I ordered it, it was supposed to come with some pellets. It didn't (but, it arrived 5 days early, so not complaining!). I went to cablea's and picked up a couple varieties of pellets. We did the initial burn in (about 1 hour). Then smoke a couple steaks to "try it out"... SOO Good! The next day we put on the brined 15 Lb. thanksgiving turkey. I need to get 2 turkeys if I want leftovers next year! (Brine was in a home depot 5gal. bucket for 12+hours... 1 bottle of white wine, 1 onion chunked, a few stalks celery chunked, 1 bunch resh rosemary. 1 bunch fresh thyme, sea salt, water to cover the turkey). I stuffed the brined herbs (rosemary & Thyme) into the turkey during the smoking.
Cellerdweller34 : Absolutely love the grill!
Grill was easy to put together. Did by myself in about an hour . Everything was packed good and arrived in great condition. I went from never wanting to do the grilling with our old gas grill to doing all the grilling all the time. I purchased a wireless temp probe now I just set the meat on the grill and leave it going till it reaches the right temp giving me time to make sides and it always comes out delicious!!!

Nathan : Solid with opportunities
Overall this is a solid grill/smoker. I have just a couple issues. 1. The grill lid does not make a tight fit letting smoke/heat out. I’ve tried to make adjustments to the lid to make it close tight with no success. 2. I had to add felt grill gasket to the edge of the lid to make a somewhat tighter fit. This should be something they give with the purchase of the grill. Lastly the handle is a bit flimsy when you go to move the grill. The handle is attached through the hopper with 4 screws. I would like to have seen the handle integrated into the grill itself to make it solid when you try to move the grill. Grill gets heavy when the hopper is filled.
Al A. : Good quality pellet grill.
I’ve used my pellet grill about 10 times now and I am very happy with this purchase. The internal temperature control is pretty accurate. It cooks evenly. I regret not buying this sooner. Putting this grill together is pretty easy and took about 45 minutes by myself to do myself. All the parts appear to be very good quality. This is my first purchase of a Z grill and I am very happy with it.
Jack Gunn : Cheaper than a Traeger
At first use, I was in love! Still happy, just wish it was a bit more consistent in temp control. There’s hot spots on the grill and the controller/probe needs to be replaced in time.
Brian : So worth it
AMAZING!!!! Best steak I have ever had on this grill. We have done ribs, salmon and chicken and all of them turned out awesome. Installation is a bit of a pain but not bad. Especially when you see the savings compared to a traeger. Just be careful when installing the handle on the hopper lid. The instructions call for it last, but do so beforehand otherwise you risk dropping the screws into the already assembled hopper
ArchD : I'm not sure I ever want to get a pellet grill again after this.
This thing will not keep a decent temp. It fluctuates between 130 and 500 degrees. I have total buyers remorse right now. I have smoked on this grill about 10 times since I got it and only once was the temperatures within a 20 degree margin the whole time. I've tried so many things to get this grill to keep a constant temperature including changing out the controller, auger, fan, glow rod, and temp probe but it just will not keep a decent temp. This thing is a nightmare.

Stone : Solid grill, bad temp control..
Very well packaged, goes together easy, everything is labeled well just follow instructions. Just fired it up for the first time everything works fine but that darn temp swing everyone is talking about on these reviews are real. I set it at 225 and watched it go to over 300. Not even going to bother going through zgrills back and forth like everyone complains about waiting on parts and crap all to have it happen again and again....and again. Did what another reviewer mentioned and went to smoke daddy and bought the pid upgrade for pellet smokers and waiting for it to get here in a few days and will update my review once I have it installed and got a few cooks completed with the new temp controller.
****UPDATE 9-5-2020****
This smoker was the best purchase ever, has held up well with new controller! Love this thing.
ScottyB : Great Value Pellet Grill
Overall I don’t think there is a better value for a pellet grill. The temperature control is a little less than optimal but it generally holds within my acceptable range. When set on 225 it will sometimes rise as high as 260 but it will settle back down to 225-235. So far everything I have cooked on the grill has been wonderful. Boston butts, hot dogs, burgers, and pizzas!
LEE MARIER : Best BBQ Taste
Just simply a GREAT pellet grill! Easy assembly and I did it alone in 45 min. Easy instructions and well built product. I did the burn in the same day and fired up burgers the following. Best tasting and juiciest burgers I’ve ever have. BUY THIS GRILL, you will love it!!!!
Jim H. : Poor heat controller and customer service
Very happy with the kits assembly, with the quality of the smoker body and wheels, and with the price point. I was very disappointed with the heat controller unit which failed twice in the first two months. Low heat settings of 180 held at over 400 degrees. Fifty degree temp swings were the norm. The Z-grill website contained no customer contact number and the enclosed manuals listed one that was erroneous. Customer service was only available via email and appears not to be US based. RCS distributor was of NO help. In all fairness , the z grill company did replace the faulty controller the first time. That worked for a month, then failed with the same symptoms as the first time. Second time they would not replace unit unless I submitted a video. I got tired of messing around and replaced the unit at my own expense ($250) with a PID unit from Smokeddaddy inc. Their universal controller upgrade kit of fan, auger motor and digital controller holds temp with in 5 degrees insistently. Like using your oven. The smokedaddy fan unit and auger motor are twice as big as the zgrill but retro- fit easily. Made a huge difference.
Alan F. : Used once, and not working for second use...
I bought one of these for myself for Christmas. It had good reviews on Amazon. I assembled it on Christmas eve, and closely followed the manufacturer's start up instructions on Christmas morning. I smoked a prime rib roast and it came out excellent. Excited to use the unit again on the day after Christmas, I just went out to fire it up, and it won't start. It throws a up an ER2 error code, and will not reset as per the manual instructions. So disappointing. I will now be forced to deal with customer service on a unit with 6 hours of use on it. Buyers remorse now setting in...
Abs : Came damaged
It came damaged. Looks like it was dropped fairly hard. A little disappointed considering how much I spent on it. I decided to keep it, rather than deal with the hassle of sending it back. I’m hoping the gap caused by the warped metal won’t mess with the temperature.
EDIT: Was contacted by the seller and they were amazing. They made it right and were very pleasant to work with. I’ve recommended them to all my friends. They make a fantastic product.
