After the scale settles on a weight, it automatically locks the weight on the display until cleared. Is there a way to turn off this feature?

does it record max weight

Is there a way to calibrate this scale? Mine is a few pounds over when weighing known weights.

Answer: I don't think there is except for the auto zero feature.

What are the locking functions? Will it record a max weight?

Answer: My husband said he's not sure about the locking function cause all he does is turn it on weigh his fish and turn it off.. but he's happy with it and is accurate

This item works great. It is extremely easy to use. The buttons are self explanatory and everything worked exactly as it should. It does take 2 AAA batteries. I think it says AA in the description but I'm pretty sure mine took AAA. I will double check that. You can switch from KG to LBs it also has a tare button so if you need to zero out a container and just weigh the contents in it you can do that as well. It has an LCD backlit screen so you can see at night or in darker areas. It really couldn't be more simple to use. Its under $9 which I think is a bargain.

Since I do a lot of traveling in Europe (often on low-cost airlines such as RyanAir and WizzAir) it is critical to know how much my luggage weighs, since those airlines charge some hefty fees for being even slightly over their luggage weight limits. What I’ve done in the past was to weigh myself on a regular scale, then weigh myself again on the scale while holding my suitcase and do some simple math to determine the weight of my suitcase. Why spend extra money on another scale when I could use this strategy?

Well, I did get to the point where I understood why having a portable travel luggage scale such as this one actually made a lot of sense. Any time I’d take a fight, I never knew how much extra weight in the form of locally-purchased items I could bring back in my suitcase and still meet the weight limit. This means my strategy of weighing my luggage on my home scale only worked as long as I didn’t plan to bring anything back with me. This limitation became increasingly annoying until I decided to just invest in a travel luggage scale so I could put an end to crossing my fingers and hoping I was within the weight limit.

After testing it out, I was a little conflicted about what rating to give it. The scale portion of the device is extremely accurate and even though the instructions were worthless pseudo-English, it was very intuitive to operate. However, the design is quite poor and I will have to MacGuyver some solutions to make it usable. I’ll provide details so that you can understand what I did to determine accuracy and what I see as being the design flaws so you can decide for yourself whether this is the right luggage scale for you or not.

The first thing I did to test accuracy was to weigh several ceramic and glass mugs on my kitchen scale, then compare those weights with this luggage scale. Beforehand, I was expecting there to be something like 10-20 grams difference between the two scales. I was shocked to see that the weights were 100% exactly the same - on the kitchen scale my first mug weighed 505 grams while on the luggage scale it weighed 0.505 kilos (which is exactly the same, in case you aren’t familiar with the metric system).

Next, I figured I’d compare some heavier weights and I also switched the scale into imperial mode for the Americans reading this review. I weighed a full gallon jug of water on both scales. On my kitchen scale, the jug weighed 8lbs 9oz (which equals 8.5625 lbs) and when using the travel luggage scale, that same jug fluctuated between 8.55lbs and 8.56lbs. The level of accuracy on this tiny luggage scale is really impressive; I wasn’t expecting it to be as consistent as it turned out to be!

Now, the design flaws, of which there are two: first, the metal hook that attaches to your suitcase/luggage is way too small. I tested it out on the cabin-sized small suitcase I always bring aboard with me and the hook wouldn’t fit around either of the handles on the suitcase. I did sort of force the fabric handle of my suitcase half on the hook, which worked, but wasn’t very secure. If you only have a hard plastic handle on your suitcase, this hook will very likely not work at all. I will probably cut off the hook with a pair of tin snips and replace it with a bigger hook that can accommodate my suitcase handle.

The second flaw is the loop that you use to hold the scale; it’s also way too small. So small, that I could only fit two fingers inside the loop to hold the scale. If you are weighing something extremely lightweight (say, 3 pounds) then this is not much of an issue. However, if you are using it to weigh luggage (which is the intended purpose) then you will essentially have to lift up your entire suitcase with only two fingers. I tested this out on my cabin suitcase packed with the amount of weigh it normally has (which measured 18lbs) and it was BARELY doable. I also had to stand on a chair because otherwise lifting this weight and keeping it stable was too awkward (see picture). The scale is marketed as being able to weigh up to 110 lbs. I don’t think the average person would be able to comfortably lift 110lbs with two fingers. I will also have to come up with an alteration that allows me to hold this scale with my entire hand, so I’ll probably fabricate some type of holding strap through the loop.

It’s really unfortunate that such an accurate scale with easy to use buttons has such a poor design. In this price point, I’ve seen several other scales on Amazon that look like they’d be both easy to hold and have straps to accommodate various sized handles. Because of that, I can’t say that this brand is a good value since it’s not any cheaper than travel scales with much better designs.
