Questions about Oliso Pro VS95A Smart Vacuum Sealer for Food Storage, Silver
Q:
Does this unit come with a cutter built in so that the device determines how to cut vs. the user?
Answer: There is no need to cut, the bags are all resized. The sealer just puts a small pin hole to vacuum the air out and then seals the little hole. This method also allows the bags to be reusable. Please watch the video below to understand more.
Q:
Since these bags are reusable is a plus. Do you wash them and use them over? Is there a place where you can cut these bags to use over?
Answer: I do both. I wash some, but others I put my food portioned into snack or sandwich bags and seal those up. Then when I need something I simply pull out my portion and reseal the Frisper bag.
Answer: I used an inexpensive plastic bag to put the food in then vac pack it. this way, I never have to wash the bags.
Answer: I wash them and use them over and over. I have never cut them, but in my opinion, I think probably the seal would not work.
Answer: The bags are the zip lock type to there is no issue with reusing them. To clean them you just rinse them thoroughly or put them in the top rack in the dishwasher over the top of a glass.
Answer: I wash them and reuse them.
Answer: I wash them and reuse them.
Q:
Can I use ziplock freezer bag with this machine?
Answer: The Frisper only works with Oliso bags. They are thicker than any other bag I have used. I wash them and reuse them. You can use the bags up to eight times. It works perfectly. I am very happy with the Frisper. Small---easy to use---and fast. Just a side note: I also got the wine stopper that can be used with the Frisper. It is absolutely the best wine stopper on the market.
Answer: You have to use the frisper bags, but they are reusable.
Q:
What is the difference between this unit and the oliso pro vs97a (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/b007szk9kg)?
Q:
I am skeptical that this will really work with wet foods, like a steak plus a marinade. why should i expect this to work better than my foodsaver?
Q:
Is the accessory to seal mason jars included and if not what is the cost of buying that separate?
Answer: It didn't come in mine.
Q:
Not interested in bags. Looking for reliable macine for mason jars. Is this it?
Answer: Hi, this machine is compatible with Mason Jar Sealer, you need to purchase mason jar separately and this VS95A will help to seal it.
Answer: I’m not sure what your asking. But this machine vacuums out air from the special bags.
Answer: No
Q:
If I'm reheating cooked food via sous vide, can I reuse the bags multiple times?
Answer: I personally haven't tried sous vide, but another reviewer has and said it works great and reusable. There are numbers on the bags 1-10 or 12 and if you seal per number you can reuse the bag up to the last number.
Answer: Yes you can. I wash them out with soap and water. I have tried sous vide using Oliso's Smart Hub. It is awesome. The bags were made for using with sous vide cooking as well as food storage.
Q:
Does this come with all the accessories that it shows on other sights? Or just the unit itself?
Answer: It does come with all of the accessories in the photos.
Q:
Are the Oliso “frisper” bags safe for sous vide cooking?
Answer: They are the best bags for sous vide. The vacuum sealer is not. Use the water displacement method for vacuum using the Oliso bags and you will get more than 30 uses each.
Answer: Yes! These oliso bags are the ones that I use
Q:
What exactly does this come with? The tube, the ziploc to seal the bag, the wine stopper, how many quart size or gallon size bags?
Answer: My Frisper PRO-1000 came with 3 quart bags, 2 gallon bags, and a pantry bag. Each bag can be used eight times. I love my Frisper. I love the size and it is powerful for such a small machine. Everything seals perfectly. It keeps everything so fresh. I can now buy meat when it is on sale and have no freezer burn.
Q:
Does this come with the starter kit? The various sizes bags and the wine stopper?
Q:
Where can i get the plastic sealer part for my pro-1000 i purchased at amazon?
Answer: Hi! Please call or email our customer service and they will take care of you :)
Answer: contact Oliso, customer service. as stated from seller.
Q:
The picture shows four bottle stoppers but the description only references one stopper? How many are included in the startner kit?
Q:
What are the power requirements of the Oliso? Will it work with 220v? How many amps does it pull?
Answer: The Oliso Vacuum Sealers are 120v . We offer a 220v version in certain countries, but if you are buying from the USA, it will only work with 120v. The VS97A will work with a 12v car adapter. And all Oliso Vacuum Sealers draw 0.61A.
Q:
What is the difference between the pro-1000 and the pro vs95a, other than color?
Answer: I had the Pro in red. This is my second one, and I love how it function...easy. Be very careful when cleaning the base, that's how I damaged the first one!
Q:
The bags are sealing okay, but after being in the freezer for a while they leak air and meat receives frost bite. Ideas?
Q:
Does this come with any of the bags?
Answer: Yes, it comes with a few bags, maybe 8-10.
Answer: Yes. I don't remember exactly how many, but around 2-3 of the gallon size and 6-7 of the quart size. It also comes with a bottle stopper for wine or oil.
Q:
Will this work with jar sealers?
Answer: Yes. It has a hose that comes with it that attaches to the machine on one end and the jar on the other. The jar sealer does not come with this machine. I bought both the small and wide mouth sealer. Mine did come with wine and beer bottle sealers. I love those. I don't really use the wine one too often, can't seal it if it's not left over hahaha
Answer: This item sucked. I had to throw it away. the second time I used it, it did not work. Since it was over 90 days I couldn't get any one to help me get it fixed or replaced. Never had the chance to use it on jars.
Answer: Yes it does!
Q:
One reviewer said that she has used other bags with this sealer. Has anyone else had good luck with using off-brand or generic bags?
Q:
On another website their offer comes with 4 VacuSeal Bottle Stoppers, Resuable Upright Pantry Bag, Various Sizes of Resealable Replacement Bags, Flexi Tube and Zip Disc. Can anyone tell me if this is included in this deal, and if not, what is?
Q:
Does this starter kit come with vacuum seal bottle stopper?
Answer: yes
Answer: yes
Q:
Could I put food in a Foodsaver bag, heat seal both ends(with my non-vacuuming old Foodsaver) , and use the Frisper to vacuum the air out?
Answer: We experimented sealing a food saver bag on each end with cheese crackers in it, put the food saver bag in the Frisper side end in. The Frisper automatically punched a hole in the food saver bag and vacuumed the air out and heat sealed it. The crackers didn't crush but however the food saver bag didn't totally seal. Hope this helped you.
Answer: The Frisper vacuum machine has 2 types of bags: zipper bags in 1 qt. and 1 gal. sizes. The other type uses a flexi hose and fits in the hole of the bag, the other end into the Frisper to vacuum the air out. I have both a Frisper and a Food Saver and I use the Frisper bags with the Frisper and the Food Saver bags with the Food Saver. I don't know how you can use the Food Saver bags with the Frisper but you could try to see if it works for you.
Answer: I'm sorry but I wasn't able to answer your question today but will do that for you tonight or in the morning. Please hang in there for me!
Q:
I live at a higher elevation and have trouble with my foodsaver vacuuming airtight. Has anyone tried this unit above 7000 feet?
Answer: The Frisper Pro 1000 and the Frisper VS 97A will both work at higher elevations. Both of those models are designed with two motors which allows them to vacuum airtight at higher elevations. I love my Frisper. Good luck.
Answer: Never used it so I don't know. I purchased a CASO to use for Sous Vide. Sorry I can't be of any help.
Product reviews of Oliso Pro VS95A Smart Vacuum Sealer for Food Storage, Silver
Dinakar Sarma : Tiny machine, lots of power
For such a TINY little vacuum sealer (it's about half the size of a standard toaster), this thing is plenty powerful for home use. Here are a couple of tips to make life easier on you. The kit comes with one tube-using bag, and a few of the traditional vacuum seal bags.
1) DO NOT lose the zip making widget they include with the kit. It really does ensure that the zip tops to any of your vacuum capable bags is properly sealed. Without this thing, I found that the zip top isn't as firmly closed as I thought it was.
2) The tube bag works great for liquid things, because it folds out and stands up as you ladle the liquid ingredients in. Set the machine to liquid (after letting the thing settle for about a minute or so to prevent bubbles from forming inside the bag), and then let 'er rip. It will pull out all the air that it can.
3) Cereals won't really work so hot in these bags, because when all the air gets sucked out, your cereal is crushed.
4) Don't bother lining up the numbers. I found that I could estimate how far to put the bag over, so that I could repeatedly use the bag more than "just" 12 times. Unless you're sous vide-ing every day, I sincerely doubt that you'll even get through the initial batch of bags they give you.
5) The tube thingy is an awesome tool to have, as it lets you seal bottles and the rest. I like to make my own dressings, and seal them up in old wine bottles, so that it looks nice on the table. The sealer sealed up the wine bottle beautifully, and the dressing tasted as good as the day I made it.
6) WAIT! Wait until the lights indicate that the machine is ready to release your bag, ready for the next task, or ready to do whatever it's going to do. It takes a few seconds to complete its tasks, and that's OK.
What really impressed me is how much suction this tiny little thing can produce. I sealed up some seasoned rice that my friend had made (they add nuts, raisins, and spices to some parboiled rice, and send them out as gifts; when you're home, you just cook it like regular rice, and it makes this delicious pilaf). The thing sealed up as tight as when you buy arborio rice in those vacuum sealed bags.
The bags are really heavy duty, and can stand up to a lot of re-using. I had this sealer for a month, and the bags look great (except the ones where I stored some heavily spiced curry that had lots of turmeric and tomatoes). The machine keeps on pounding through the bags without problems.
Boilermate : Good Idea, Limited Usefulness
I have used a FoodSaver in one form or another for over 25 years. I've also had a for about five. So was only natural to compare these two appliances with the Oliso PRO-1000 Vacuum Sealer that I am reviewing here.
The vacuum sealer itself is considerably more compact than the FoodSaver V2860 I own, though considerably bigger than the FreshSaver. The Oliso feels solid and substantial, especially when compared to the FreshSaver. In use this unit is about as loud as the FoodSaver.
Using the Oliso is a snap. Fill the bag, seal the Ziploc edge, lineup the circle on the bag with the machine, and wait for the light to say it's done.
If I were only evaluating the vacuum sealer I could end the review right now giving a solid four stars. However, since the system also includes the bags...
I primarily use my FoodSaver for freezing. For example, we buy meat in the "family pack" size when it's on sale. We then freeze individual portions. For this use, making custom sized bags from a roll is the most practical and the most economical. Since you are not supposed to reuse bags that have contained raw protein, reuse is not a factor.
Unlike the FoodSaver, you can only use precut bags with the Oliso. The VacSnap bags, the ones you are most likely to use in the refrigerator or freezer, only come in two sizes, quart or gallon. The pantry bags come in a couple more sizes, again, the quart size is the smallest you can buy. There are many occasions when a quart bag is too large, especially in the refrigerator.
As with the FoodSaver, reusing the bags reduces their overall cost. Unlike the FoodSaver, these bags don't get shorter with every use, you have the same size quart bag for up to 10 uses. There are a couple of caveats however. The first comes directly from Oliso: Bags can be used multiple times except "One-time microwaving, simmering and sous vide cooking..." I assume that means one trip through the microwave and the bag is toast. The other is the standard one concerning bags that have contained raw protein (meat, chicken, fish, etc.). Those that have contained raw protein should never be reused.
The pantry bags, that you vac with the hose, are also a good idea. I like the wide bottom so the bag stand up easily so you can fill them. I would find these bags the more useful than the VacSnap bags. However... I filled one of those bags with a pound of pistachios sealed it and vacuumed it. Though the bags vacuum nicely the first time, it had lost its seal in less than a month. I opened the bag, used about half of the contents, and resealed the bag (using Oliso's bag closer thingy). I re-vacuumed the bag with the hose attachment, and in less than a day the bag had lost it's a vacuum.
Bottom Line
The Oliso vacuum sealer works as advertised. The bags, however, are different story, with a limited number of sizes, along with the limited availability and a high price. In my limited testing, the pantry bags fail to hold a vacuum. I am still testing the VacSnap bags and will report back after some longer-term testing.
If you use the vacuum sealer is I do, primarily for freezing meats, vegetables, etc. then this one is too limited in what it can do. The VacSnap bags can be reused provided you don't microwave them. Reusing them after they have contained raw protein is not advisable. I often freeze a single chicken breast and then defrost it in the microwave so that bag is not reusable. Add to the fact they only come in quart and gallon sizes that limits the usefulness of my house. One pork chop or chicken breast in a quart bag is a major waste.
At the time of this writing the Oliso is selling here on Amazon for just short of $150. In my opinion this is not a good value, as there are several FoodSaver models for less money. And with those you have the flexibility of precut bags or making your own from one of two widths of rolls. There are also third-party bags and rolls available. For short-term vacuum storage in the refrigerator the FreshSaver is only $20.

Update May 13, 2014
<<<
Okay, I've had this for a while and had a chance use both styles of bags more than once. I've also reused both styles of bags more than once. In my opinion, this device is is not worth the hassle.
As I said in my original review, the vacuum sealer itself works really well. But since you have to use their bags with the vacuum sealer, and only their bags, this machine is more of a pain than it's worth. Most times the VacSnap bags will seal okay the first time but after that it's really hit and miss.
The best way to ensure no liquid gets sucked into any vac sealer is to fill the bag and freeze it before vacuum sealing. The only way to do that with this system is to seal the bag and freeze it upside down so that one of the vacuum ports is available. Even then, there may be enough liquid in the headspace so the bag is "frozen shut" above the liquid line. Even under the best of circumstances I think this would be hit or miss.
The pantry bags, while a really good idea, continue to disappoint I've yet to get one to hold the initial seal for more than about a month, and resealing the bag has lasted as little as one day.
Yes, I followed all the suggestions from the manufacturer and the reviewers here, and I have always made sure I used the little sealer thingy that came with the package. The results remain the same.
I've downgraded this from three stars to two. As a vacuum sealing device the vac sealer rates five stars, but without reliable bags it's just a dust collector.
...dl : It's Awesome!!!! don't hesitate!
I got this starter kit at a local kitchen shop. It came highly recommended in-store and I must say I agree 100%. It even came with the wine sealer, which i use on my fancy olive oil! Took a few minutes to unbox and figure out then, I was off sealing my way around the kitchen and pantry.
This sealer is awesome for the freezer and bulk items that are common around our household. Also the bags are easy to clean and re-use.
Big fan & think you will be too!
Mary S. : What could have been...
I really wanted to like this more than my Foodsaver. It just didn't make the mark.
A couple of things:
- They say these bags are reusable for certain items. I'm not sure about this. The replacement bags are expensive. I'm relatively sure I could not reuse the bags on most of the items I vacuum seal for food safety reasons, if nothing else. Someone told me I could put these in the dishwasher. If this is true, how do I keep the bag open in the dishwasher to get it clean. It doesn't come with any clips or anything to achieve this feat.
- Some of my seals failed very shortly after sealing. I followed the directions perfectly, but the seals just didn't hold, twice in the first week. This was the deathblow for me and I'm now back to using my Foodsaver.
the dog : Doesn't seal
Note: I'll try and update this post as the "canning season" goes forward by leaving comments on this thread.
I have had trouble in the past with the Foodsaver systems so I decided to give this system a try. I have heard some good reviews and it was named as a new product of the year. The idea sounds great .... put the veges in the bag.. close the bag and use the Frisper. No more worries about sealed bags (or so I thought).
Brocolli was beautiful this year. I blanched, cooled, drained and bagged the brocolli. No pieces between the zip seal and I used the plastic sealer tool that came with the Frisper. Of the first 20 bags only 1 held the seal (i used the Frisper bags). The Frisper was set on moist as directed and I waited until the done light came on. The vacuum seems to work well, however, after the done light comes on and the bag is released you can see the vacuum in the bag fail. I suppose the heat seal is not complete. Holding the bag up to the light the seal seems complete, however, air going back into the bag says it's not so. I thought maybe the moisture of the blanched brocolli was the cause so I tried to freeze the brocolli then put it into the bag and the results were a little better, however, unsatisfactory to say the least.
I just tried snap peas... blanched, cooled, drained and towel dried and the results were the same. The bag loosing the seal within seconds to a minute.
I was really hoping that this would be the "real deal" since I love those frozen garden veges that I grow. What a DISAPPOINTMENT.
Waneta Hunter : easy to use and does a good job
Simple, easy to use and does a good job. Glad I purchased it.

The bags just aren't reusable. What a waste.
Waneta Hunter : easy to use and does a good job

Love gadgets : Little but powerful
Not disapointed in this little machine. It is counter friendly and very powerful. It gets the job done perfectly for smaller sealing needs.
Peg : I am very disappointed with the quality of this
I am very disappointed with the quality of this! The bags fail after a couple of uses, either not sealing at all during the initial use or loosing the vacuum while in the freezer, allowing freezer burn. I hate this thing and don't even use it anymore, but at an investment of over $200, I have not been able to toss it into the garbage, which is where it belongs. I've gone back to the original FoodSaver, which works like a dream, each & every time. Spend the extra money & buy the quality product!

Harriet L. Goodsell : It works
Expensive but it works. Use it for Sous Vide cooking.
Lee : Look elseware
I wanted to use this for my sous vide and several times the bag leaked from the suction point. Not enough suction power or time for vacuuming large bags. I reached out to the company and didn't hear back.
Gregor : it's a great product. It comes with a couple of different ...
First one of these I've ever used, and overall, it's a great product. It comes with a couple of different plastic bags. The first type of bag is basically a special ziplock that the machine punches a small hole through, takes out the air, and then heat seals. They can be tricky to use, getting the alignment right and all. The other plastic bag is the "pantry bag", which has a valve on the back. The pantry bags are great, easy to use and re-use. The wide mouth mason jar adapter is a must have for this product too, that's sold seperately.
Veronica S : Perfect vacuum sealer
It’s great! It worked wonderfully and it was easy to use. I love it! Doesn’t take up a lot of space, it’s small and mighty which is another great feature. What an awesome product, always gets the job done!

Mary Jo DiBella : Money saving food storage
I love this! If you live alone or with one other person, you have discovered that saving money on food is difficult. The cheapest prices are found on 'family' packages, which have way too much food for you to use before it spoils.
This is a nifty solution to that problem. I took extra steaks and chicken and sealed them into bags which went into my freezer. There will be no freezer burn since there is no air in the package.
You won't want to use it for inexpensive things, since the cost of the bags is a factor, but for pricey items like meat and poultry, it's perfect.
And it's SMALL. Mine has a permanent spot on my countertop and it is very unobtrusive. If you are looking for a way to save some money, this is a great option.

DynomiteWins : Convenient and Effective Sealer
My parents had a vacuum sealer when I was growing up that they eventually sold because it wasn't as practical as they had hoped. It was cumbersome to pull out the huge machine and the roll of vacuum paper to seal up whatever they were freezing. I'm sure if they had a need to freeze items daily or even weekly, that would have been fine, but it wasn't for the every day, casual user.
That's where this little machine steps in and fills the gap. I wanted a vacuum sealer so I could buy meats in bulk and freeze in portion sizes myself at home. I had been researching vacuum sealers, and this one was the one that made the entire process from start to finish the most convenient and accessible. The Frisper is small enough for me to leave out on my kitchen counter at all times and the bags mean that I don't have to wrangle a roll of vacuum plastic. The sealing process is simple and the Oliso sealing do-dad thing that closes the vacuum bags is incredible (and has a magnet so you can stick it on your fridge to close any of those other pesky resealable bags from the market like the ones that hold shredded cheese or deli meats or snacks.) It's about as loud as the other vacuum sealer I was familiar with - which is about as loud as a running garbage disposal. The instructions are easy to understand and the reusable, washable bags are a big plus for anyone concerned about waste.
Now for the seal. I've had no problems sealing items for the freezer from bread to meats. In the fridge, I sealed half a tomato and half an avocado for a week and when I reopened the bag, the avocado was still green and the tomato - while a bit mushier than when I sealed it - was still edible in a sandwich.
I did not have the same success with the pantry bags which no matter how I tried to seal them or attach the tubing, I couldn't get it to become really airtight. I'm not sure if there was an issue with my tube or with the bags that came with the set, but it only removed some of the air before lighting up as "done".
Overall, I love my Frisper - you can use the same bags with this Pro-1000 sealer as you could have with Oliso's other Frisper sealers, so replacing the bags is easy. The first time I tried the machine, I missed the dot that they suggested on the bag. Instead of moving to the next dot, I moved it just a little farther down from the first dot and was able to get a really tight seal with no issues, so while the dots on the bag are where they recommend you seal for best results, those areas are flexible and you might be able to get away with a few more seals than expected.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this vacuum sealer!
Phoenix : Awesome Product!
The Oliso Frisper Pro-1000 Vacuum is awesome! This unit keeps food fresh much longer than using plastic bags or covered containers. Food is vacuum sealed in reusable and washable bags. It has different settings you can use depending on what your sealing, whether it is wet food or dry food or a keepsake. . It has a setting to seal bottles and jars to preserve and lock in flavor. I love that this machine is in my kitchen and I recommend this unit for every kitchen to save money by not throwing out food, etc.
AMart : Three Stars
works well for most foods, if something is bulky it is hard to side in vacuum slot.

...dl : It's Awesome!!!! don't hesitate!
Eliza : THIS IS AN AMAZING PRODUCT
I absolutely love this product. I use it almost everyday. It is so small and so powerful. I was amazed that the Frisper is so super easy to use. The bags are thick and can be used up to 12 times---and you don't have to make your own bags and it is a huge money saver. YAY!!! I buy chicken, fish, etc when they are on sale. I don't have to worry about freezer burn because they are sealed like shrink wrap.
We eat salads several times during the week. I bag all of the lettuces, fresh vegetables, cheese, onions, even tomatoes. My produce is always fresh--just as if I had bought it that day. Because this product is so easy to use, I just open the bags, get out what I want, reseal them, turn the Frisper on, and can work on my salad while the bag is sealing. Because of the ease of using, I now Frisp just about everything. Throwing out food is now a thing of the past.
I also frisp dry items in my pantry. Nuts, crackers, etc. Everything is fresh.
THANK YOU OLISO!! I LOVE YOUR PRODUCT.
Mythic : Small and great for RV or Boat living.
I have a 21' motorhome so what kitchen gadgets make it aboard is a pretty stringent vetting process. I have a huge FoodSaver unit now and while that is a good unit it won't make it on the road with me. Just too big. The Frisper is doable though.
If you have accessories from a FoodSaver like a mason jar sealer or the food storage containers they should work with this too. The ports appear to be the same size.
I absolutely LOVE the pantry bags. They're perfect for stuff like cereal where you get a giant box with 2 cups of product in it. The pantry bags keep it crisp, dry and compact, and they stand up in the cabinets. Very handy. I have a fridge and freezer in my motorhome so it's nice when I run across a good farmer's market to be able to stock up my freezer and have everything sealed nicely. So far, I'm thrilled with it.
UPDATE: Well, I spoke too soon. The pantry bags that I was so excited about don't stay sealed. I just checked the pantry and SIX out of seven are not sealed. So far the other frisper bags are still sealed, but the failure of the pantry bags is disappointing. So if your primary reason for purchase is those bags I'd wait and see if they improve them. If you primarily want the more traditional freezer bags and a compact unit this is still a good buy.
