BUBBA first emerged from the coast of California in San Diego—a knife tough enough to withstand the grueling saltwater conditions. Now, we’ve expanded—reaching freshwater and saltwater fishermen all over the world. Our iconic, Bubba Red “Non-Slip Grip” handle and premium razor-sharp steel blades continue to stay at the forefront of our fillet knives.

ULTRA FLEX The extreme flexibility stands out among its competitors. The sleek, sporty blade cuts precisely for detailing and plucking out bones. | TAPERED FLEX Our most iconic style fillet knife. Perfect for cleaning all types of fish. Flexibility allows for more precise filleting around bones while providing enough rigidity to slice through heavy meat or cut through the bones of fish. Ideal for salt or freshwater fish. | FLEX The semi-flexible blade is more lenient than our Stiff fillet blades and is a great option for cutting through heavier meats such as tuna and/or wahoo. | STIFF The construction of the stiff style fillet knife has little flex, making it controllable and great for any large game fish. It doubles as a great utility knife for meat carvers as the 2mm- wide blade is ideal for precision cutting. |

Answer: Good question, I keep my Bubba on my 24ft. boat, yet all the lakes that I fish in Northern Wisconsin are fresh water. It should not be a problem if the blade is kept dry. use a good quality silicon or light oil at times. You will enjoy your Bubba , Regards & good fishing. Walleye Hunter
Answer: Salt water will Rust anything but if you keep it clean and dry and maybe a little bit of some sort of knife oil were Whip and oil on it it should help it quite a bit
Answer: I DON'T KNOW AS MINE ARE KEPT INDOORS AFTER USE
Answer: The sharpened edge may as it the only part of the blade that isn't coated.
Q:
what should I buy 7"flex or 9"flex? usually filte red, trout, grouper snapper tuna,?
Answer: 7". Have found the 9" can be to big on some fish. It flexes easier then the 7 and makes it easier to cut yourself. I already experienced it. I suggest buying a protected glove, knife resistant as the bubba blades are extremely sharp.
Answer: Either one will work. I have the 9" and use it to clean Dolphin. It really matters
Answer: To do all those fish I would go with the 9”. But I also filte the whole fish on one side cutting threw the ribs. Then filte the ribs and skin off once the main filte is off the fish. If you filte from the back down to the ribs then the 7” is what you want.
Answer: I would buy the 9 it is a little more flexible which helps with bigger fish. I would also get the sharpener
Answer: I'd buy the 9" for that great big one I tell fish stories about! Just in case ;)
Answer: As a rule of thumb fresh water fish require a 7" inch blade yet not always. The bottom line ,What is the girth of the fish that your are working on. A bigger girth fish a longer blade is the rule to cut by.Regards, Walleye Hunter
Answer: The 9 inch would be my recommendation
Answer: 9”!
Answer: Bought for the boyfriend. He stated easy to handle and to manage
Answer: Nine inch.

bogarts69 : AMAZING
Purchased MANY knives in the past 2 years and this one by far is the BEST!
D. S. Barber : This is the best filet knife. Period.
I bought the 9" tapered filet knife. When it arrived I thought it was a small Samurai sword, the 9" is that big. That said, it's incredibly sharp and has just the right amount of flex in the blade. I can remove the skin from a Yellowtail filet and lose next to zero meat. I love this knife.
Heather King-Smith : Great knife
Works great
Scott McFarlane : Very sharp
Awesome for yellow tail, sea bass, halibut and tuna....so far it has worked perfectly.
perfect storm : If you fish... You need it!
I held of buying the bubba blade due to its cost. But then after going through countless knives from. west marine I wised up. Every serious spear fisherman or deckhand has one.. when I got it I felt like a pro. The meat. and time I saved in one outing paid for itself. Make sure you buy a sharpening steel! A $12 investment to keep that knife how it should be
kyle fenoglio : Great Knife!
This knife does great on all of the fish I have cleaned. It has held it's edge very well.
Ron C. Baran : SHARP!!!!
I was hesitant on getting the bubba , but glad I purchased one. Great knife for Reds and bigger inshore fish. Will see how the blade holds up this fishing season.
Michigan : Coating flaking off--very concerning
I purchased 5 bubba knives for work as we do a significant amount of filleting of fish. I purchased 3 of the 9in flex, a 7in flex, and a 6 inch wiffie.
Overall, all the knives performed well over the course of the day. We processed about 500 fish of many different species including Carp, Northern Pike, Walleye, panfish, Perch, Lake Trout, Large and Smallmouth Bass and Catfish.
The knives did not need sharpening throughout the long day and came very sharp out of the package. The 7 in seemed to be the most versatile, but the 9 performed better on the large Carp (20lb plus) and large Northern Pike (30in or so). The Wiffie was the favorite for anything small including the bass. If I had to choose one size, it would probably be the 7in flex. Having more than one size is preferable if you work through as many different species as we do.
Anyway--on to the issue. The coating is flaking off one of the knives (only 1) which is of concern. We didn't sharpen the knives, so the cause is not from our abuse or a poor sharpener. It didn't happen on the other side of the knife or any of the other knives, so it may be an isolated issue. The concern is how much will flake off, and what does the non-stick coating consist of. **SEE PHOTOS**
The second star I removed is for poor customer service. I sent an email over a month ago, with my concerns, and have heard nothing. I expected better and had waited to submit this review until I heard back--but nothing so far. Will update if I hear something from someone.
***UPDATE
I have heard back from the manufacturer and they were very helpful and replaced the knife. It was determined by the manufacturer that the coating flaking off is an isolated incident. We will see, but I have replaced the star that I removed for poor customer service.

Moore : Good
Good
Stephanie Kelly : Fantastic Knife.
Everything is great about this knife. Not one bad thing to write. We use it for everything; from meats to vegetables. It works great on watermelon too.
Karlene : GREAT knife!!!
This is such an awesome knife!!! It works so good and it is so sharp!!! This is a must to add to your knife collection to use on all kinds of different meats.
Scott McFarlane : Very sharp
Awesome for yellow tail, sea bass, halibut and tuna....so far it has worked perfectly.
Amazon Customer : It holds a sharp edge
I’ve used many different fillet knifes and this one feels so good in my hand. It holds a sharp edge for quite some time before I need to take it across my steel. A very good investment for my fishing equipment.

Great knife. Very sharp and flexable.
Anthony Ochoa : Cuts filets with ease
