Answer: Plastic
Answer: Plastic
Answer: Plastic
Answer: It’s plastic, but mine has stood up to a lot of abuse.
Q:
How many yards of 100lb test will it hold?
Answer: not sure , I have never loaded with that heavy but what I have read online ~250 yards of mono
Answer: About 100 y
Q:
what kind and weight of fishing line should I use with this? I will be fishing for snapper from shore
Answer: 20 to 30 lb line works well
Answer: I use very braided heavy line for the bulk of the roll. Adding leader line appropriate for the fish expected.
Answer: I use 50lb mono. The the thicker line makes it easier to handle without getting cut.
Q:
hole demission id hole
Answer: 6-1/4” ID , about 2” thick and back ring is about 1” deep
Q:
I have a 20lb walker that I need to lower and raise from my 2nd story apt. Would this hand reel be able to handle that?
Answer: The reel comes without line. I use it with parachute cord rated to 350 pounds. it coils around the reel just fine. If you are capable of pulling the walker up. the reel will support the weight.
Answer: 20 pounds??! That's an obnoxiously heavy walker!
Answer: I don’t see why I wouldn’t if you put strong enough line/rope on it.
Q:
Please don't laugh, but will this work for dog fishing...by which I mean using a thinnish twine to use as a forty foot long line to train a puppy?
Answer: We have dogs and puppies , I believe this will work for what you are thinking and could always use it to fish with later ;)
Answer: Sure
Q:
In the description it says you offer a 6 and 9 inch reel how do you know which one you are choosing.
Q:
how much 200lb test line will fit on this
Answer: Not much, maybe 75 yards at the most . I got a reel made out of plywood which can bold 500 yards as I fish up to 600 ft deep.
Q:
Is there any difference or pros and cons to the diiferent sizes? or is it just a larger or smaller reel?
Answer: The smaller sized ones have less line capacity.
Answer: Nope I have both the large and small ones and they both work great. I use the small one for my insure hand lines and the larger ones for my deep sea planers
Answer: Bigger reel easier for fishing.. more grip
Product reviews of Challenge 50153 Hand Reel, 9-Inch
Lin Holt : Terrific, easy to use fish release reel
Works very easily at putting fish back down safely where they belong. Easy to use...great product! I would recommend it to any fisherman.
Greg Keats : Nice YoYo
These work and are large enough to get a good grip onto.
David L. Ehnebuske : Functional — sort of
This reel is pretty poorly manufactured. The parts of the mold used to make it must fit together poorly. The result is many prominent seams and sharp bits of thin plastic flashing that seeped between the cracks during manufacture. It can be made functional with a piece of sandpaper and some work, as others have said, but it will snag the line wound on it and be uncomfortable to hold if used as delivered.
Oh, and it's not a 9-inch reel. At its largest diameter it's a little more than 8.5". The diameter where the line wraps around it is about 7.25". That's a perfectly reasonable size, but it's not 9".
David Fortier : drag a line from a sailboat
works just as needed
Donald N. Womack : Fun fishing.
I'm an infrequent fishermen. The gear was always a problem. Now the yo yo feels more natural to me. It's easy to feel fish bitting when the line is on your finger tips.
Greg Keats : Nice YoYo
These work and are large enough to get a good grip onto.
Brien : Hand line reels
Great handreel for the money, I also use them for storing electrical testing wires
Darrell Tate : A different way to fish
This was a gift for my daughter, she said she had one when she lived in Miami, she said she likes it even doe I can’t make sense out of it , Guess I’m to used to usein a rod and reel.
J. S. Radford : Not for backpacking - is HUGE
Have not used and likely won't. I bought for backpacking with hand lines. Maybe it works great but this thing is HUGE. Not for backpacking; more like for trophy fish use. Weighs nothing, though.
Crazy1 : Good product

Gerardo U. : Buen tamaño, buen agarre
Buen material, excelente para pesca pescar en mar si no quieres comprar una caña muy grande.
The Great One : I love it
If you don't k otw how to use it don't buy it!
Donna : Fishing yoyo
Just what my husband wanted.
Mark A. Lowell : Pleased with the purchase
Even this item makes me homesick for Bonaire.
Joe Hernandez : ReliableProduct!
Having a fishing pole real break on me while out fishing without a backup initiated why I purchased one of these convenient reals to use. For the price, I was pleasantly surprised as to how sturdy and reliable this item was.
Donald kennard : Exactly how described
Haven’t used it fishing yet but as soon as you grab ahold of the ring (reel) you know it’s going to be perfect.
Tree Hugger : Does what it is supposed to
Technically, I won’t be using this for fishing. I pull fish up from over 100 feet down, and their air bladders expand. They have to be lowered to below 60 feet before they compress enough for the fish to swim. I have a release mechanism but it is a pain to remove the rig on my pole, attach the mechanism, hook the fish and lower it, and finally reattach my rig and start fishing again. I’ve set up the mechanism on this, which fits nicely under my kayak’s seat and can release one fish while lowering my line to catch a legal sized replacement.
This is solid plastic, not flimsy. It cut easily so I could notch it to hold to rig. It’s survived several trips so far and functions just as I envisioned it.
Andrew jermakowicz : Good
Good but not as good as the ones in Perth WA
C L Jones : Four Stars
Oh yes it was wonderful
Michael Scarn : Best Cuban yoyo reels
Line flows off of these yoyos better than the others for some reason allowing longer casts... When you first get it inspect the reel for any imperfections and sand them smooth. I drill holes on the back of the reel to store the hook... I've caught tons of fish with mine and it is a blast!
hikertrash : Caught a SHARK!
I caught a small (3-4ft.) blacktip shark in a kayak, bit through my leader before i could land it. The reel held up great, I takes some practice to cast but it's super fun and responsive, you can feel every nibble. The casting lip had a few bumps that a smoothed out to have a better cast. Any deficiencies in this reel is likely from user inexperience and not an issue with the product..

Way lighter & way better than your average Yo yo winder. Love these. Perfect for 500’ of 150# line.????????????????????
Donna : Fishing yoyo
Just what my husband wanted.
george l anderson : I have used and still have spinning rods for fishing from the beach but i really enjoy the simplicity of the hand reels
I purchased this to take fishing on the one or two trips to the beach my family takes each year. I have used and still have spinning rods for fishing from the beach but i really enjoy the simplicity of the hand reels. I have mine filled with 50lb mono that is just large enough not to cut into my hands. I tend to use a large 4oz sinker on a "fish finder rig" setup with a Gamagatsu circle hook. Setup that way this real easily casts out into the surf and catches just as much as i would have caught on a spinning reel with the same setup.
weedeater64 : Get the Gator Buckets, NOT this one.
I got my first ever yoyo a couple of weeks ago. The Gator Bucket 9". I quickly decided to get some more and decided to try other brands to compare. I ordered one of these and two of the 6" all in the same order.
The 9" came today, not shipped all together. Took forever. The box is large enough to hold six or more. There are stickers on the part where the line goes. It is considerably smaller than the Gator Bucket.
The diameter at the bottom of the line channel is probably the same, but the walls smaller and the width is smaller. It probably has half or less the line capacity. I have 200' of #12 braided seine twine on the Gator with room for a good bit of mono on top of that. I doubt I'll get half that on this one.
The Gator Bucket feels much better in the hand. It fills my average size hands up comfortably, while this one is decidedly uncomfortably small. This one also has those little finger undulations on the inner grip ring. Ya, I hate that. They are just pokey.
In the picture this one looks like the Gator Bucket, but it is not like it at all.
Get the Gator bucket, or at least not this one.

Amazon Customer : Fishing hand reel= nice fighter kite reel
It works great as a fighter kite reel. Lots of room for line and the hand grooves make for a comfortable hold. I use it everyday and it holds up to a beating
Dale L. Cobb : Easy
These are easy to use. YOu hold them in one hand and control the string in the other. ou tilt it to allow string off during a cast or to tire the fish. You have total control without gears, ball bearings, mechanical latches, etc. It's inexpensive - no rod required. It's easy to transport and keep in the car. I don't get tangles. It casts well though I would not fly fish with it. Kids even do well with it after some practice runs. I love that I have a set and everyone in the family can fish using them.
Q$ : Five Stars
Works great.
