product description
Smokemiester BBQ Smokers Convert a Covered Grill into a Hot or Cold Pellet BBQ Smoker/Grill. For pellet grills works for pre-smoking and cold smoking only. Smokemiester BBQ Smoker is unique, it requires NO AIR PUMP, it makes its own draft. NEEDS NO POWER. Smokemiester installs, burns, and delivers pure dense smoke from the outside of covered grills, smokehouses, etc. The heat that's generated from the burning process is carried away in the air, leaving just smoke for COLD SMOKING. Installed on a covered grill, Smokemiester makes the perfect HOT BBQ SMOKER. It's easy to install, simple to use and SELF CLEANS WITHOUT REMOVAL. It has a burn screen that allows free smoke circulation and prevents outlet tube clogging. Precision made with 304 Stainless Steel. Coated with (1200°F) paint for visual appeal. Lower lid design gives precise smoke control. Wooden knobs, can be used without gloves when smoker is hot. Unique pullout burn screen, no special tools to install or remove. Lids and ash pan swing out of the way for lighting and cleaning. Installing Your Smoker: You will need a 1 1/8" hole saw to drill a hole in your BBQ below the burners, insert outlet tube and secure with nuts supplied. Before use with food a first-time start-up is required to burn off any residue. Smokemiester Start Up: Open both lids on Smokemiester BBQ Smoker and swing ash pan to the side. Make sure that the stainless-steel screen is in the correct position, covering the outlet tube. Place approximately 1 cup of food grade wood pellets, or wood chips, or a combination of both inside of Smokemiester BBQ Smoker. Light from the bottom with a torch until pellets/chips flame, and swing ash pan back into position. After 5 minutes add up to 1 more cup of fuel, close both lids on Smokemiester BBQ Smoker, then in 5 to 10 seconds reopen the lower lid (damper) half way, now you are smoking. After a few minutes you may begin adjusting the smoke output by opening or closing the lower lid. Made in USA.

Questions about Smokemiester BBQ Smokers convert a covered grill into a hot or cold pellet/wood BBQ Smoker, no power needed, takes no grill space, grill and/or smoke, all-in-one unit, 304 Stainless Steel / Black
Q:
I want to use this on a portable gas grill, however don't know how heavy the unit is once loaded with pellets as to not tip over the grill. Any Idea?
Answer: The unit is small and light, about 3 pounds, so as long as your portable grill has a solid base I wouldn't imagine it would tip, even fully loaded. I don't know which grill you have, but you could probably counterbalance it with your propane tank, but I doubt it is necessary.
Answer: The unit weighs a little over one pound when loaded with pellets.
Answer: The pellets are extremely light weight. The weight would likened to wood shavings, since the pellets are compressed shavings/saw dust.
Answer: Hi. It weighs a tiny bit less than 2 pounds.
Q:
Will this work in conjunction with a Brinkmann Electric Smoker, if so what would the 'conversion/attachment' require in terms of assembly and start-up
Answer: Hi Katie,
Q:
I have a chargriller model 2929, can this be installed on it. If so best installation ideas
Answer: Absolutely! I used a step drill bit, and bore a hole to the diameter of the smoker tube, and it works very well. There are great installation videos of this little guy on the Smokemiester website and on the youtube.
Answer: Should fit on there nicely. Try to put it opposite of the chimney and as low as possible..just drill the right size hole and you’ll be good to go
Answer: Mount it low, opposite of the chimney. Great answers from our customers!
Q:
How is the quality of it?
Answer: Great quality
Q:
Can this be used to make a smoker out of an old refrigerator?
Answer: Yes, but you will need a 3/4 inch electrical coupling and a 3/4 inch nipple 1 inch longer longer than the thickness of the wall of the refrigerator to have room for the nuts that are supplied with the smoker.
Answer: Yes. But you will need a heat source, unless you are using it as a cold smoker.
Q:
I have this installed on an electric masterbuilt. the hotter the masterbuilt gets, the slower the smokemiester makes smoke. is this normal?
Answer: I believe you may have mounted the Smokemiester too high and the superheated air may be reducing the smoke output. Can you send me a picture of your set-up? You can send it to my website, Thank You.
Answer: curious about you using it on Masterbuilt? I want to get this but not sure it would work. Did you just mount to side where the chip tray slides out?
Answer: On any smoker it's my experience that you want to smoke under a temperature of 200. I haven't tried anything higher than that.
Q:
Can this be used with the coleman lxe road trip gas grill? if so, where would i drill the hole, and if on the outside how does the smoke get inside?
Answer: I don't recommend putting a smokemiester on your grill, due to the design.
Answer: Looking at your grill online I do not think so.
Q:
Can this be used on a green mountain daniel Boone for cold smoking only
Answer: I adapted my Acorn Smoker/Grill for cold smoking. Like the Green Egg, the Acorn is an "egg" type unit. I used the adjustable air inlet port on the Acorn to take the Smokemiester. It was the only way. The Daniel Boone, however, might require drilling a port. The Smokemoester web site has videos with instructions on how to drill a hole, add a threaded pipe component, and mount the unit. All those items can be obtained at Lowes. If it's too scary for you, get someone to do it for you. You won't regret having the Smokemiester ever! I cold smoke lots. Salmon and cheeses are easy. Go for it!
Answer: Yes, Smokemiester can be used on a green mountain daniel Boone for cold smoking, and pre-smoking.
Answer: If you can drill a hole into your to attach it, it will work for cold smoking.
Q:
Will this work with a weber charcoal grill?
Answer: Hello, Yes the Smokemiester work very well on the Weber Charcoal Grill. You use the indirect method, with the coals on one side of the grill, and the Smokemiester on the other side. This way the burning coals do not burn up the smoke, and you will get your desired flavor. The Smokemiester also works for pre-smoking and cold smoking on your Weber Grill. Thank You for the question.
Answer: Absolutely, when I bought my first one I installed it on my Weber Charcoal Grille and its worked brilliantly. I now have one on both my gas and charcoal grill.
Answer: it should. you just have to drill about a one inch hole in the back of the grill
Answer: Definitely! I have mine attached to one.
Answer: Yes.
Q:
I have a mes 30in smoker, where would the best loction to mount it
Answer: I mounted mine on a weber gas grill by drilling a hole in the back of the grill and using a pipe thread tap i was able to screw the pipe on the smokemiester into the grill worked good.
Answer: Hi Brian,
Answer: It would help with an answer if you had a picture of your smoker.
Q:
I need an adapter for a big green egg. How do I get one?
Answer: I have a few prototypes, if you order a Smokemiester and let me know that you have a BGE I can include it in the box. Thank You, Ken M.
Q:
can you add fuel to this while it is already smoking or do you have to wait till it goes out and relight it?
Answer: One of the advantages of Smokemiester bbq smoker is that it installs & burns on the outside of any covered grills. You can add pellets during the smoking process while the smoker is hot, at anytime, without opening the smoke chamber, & losing smoke and heat. We installed the wooden knobs on the outside of the top lid so it can be used without gloves, and our smoker does not take up any grill space. This smoker would be a great addition to every covered grill in the world.
Q:
Can this be used with wood chips instead of pellets?
Answer: I find it works best using chips in combination with some small chunks. The smoke seems to last longer that way.
Answer: Yes, absolutely! I've used both separately, or a mixture of the two together.
Answer: Yes you sure can, as a matter of fact I use both together. Don't soak the chips just use dry.
Answer: Yes, but you have to soak them
Answer: No I don't think so. I have never tried.
Q:
How much fuel does this hold and how long does the fuel last? I use an a-maze-n tube and get aprox 4 hrs of smoke out of about 2 cups of pellets.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Hi Joe,
Q:
Can i use this remotely mounted and connect to a wsm through a lower vent using tubing? really don't want to drill a hole in my smoker.
Answer: I have never tried to mount the Smokemiester on a wsm,but if there is an up draft ( which i believe there is) then if you mount the Smokemiester to a stand, and plumb it with some tubing, i don't know why it wouldn't work.
Answer: No. It is intended to by attached to your grill.
Q:
Will this fit a master built electric smoker?
Answer: Yes, it will work great! We have quite a few customers that have installed a Smokemiester on their vertical smokers, both gas and electric. See youtube: Smokemiester Installation and First Time Use, for installation tips.
Answer: You have to drill a whole in the side but yes it does fit a electric smoker. Works great for cold smoking cheese and fish.
Q:
I'd like to attach this to the side of a '70's working refridgerator for cold smoking. What hardware (other than the drillbit) would be needed?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Depending on the thickness of the refridgerators walls you may need to get yourself a 1/2 inch by 6 inch pipe and a 1/2 inch joiner. It would be steel pipe available at your Lowes or Home depot.
Answer: even on my grill I had to get some extra pipeing. it's easy galvanized pipe that plumber uses. I just took it with me and got what I needed.
Q:
what type of metal is it made of?
Answer: Steel. The paint does burn off and the unit does rust -but it really works well. So, although it isn't perfect, I would buy it again.
Answer: Standard steel, I think 14 gage.
Q:
can I use chain saw wood chips or saw dust
Answer: Not unless you want your food to taste like chain saw bar oil. Cut down some Hickory or Apple trees and dry and split the wood then cut into small (1/2” x 2” pieces) and put in the minster with some pellets
Answer: Wood chips can be used but NOT saw dust.
Answer: You can use wood chips, small wood chunks, and pellets, but you can't use sawdust. Thank you for your question.
Q:
Is install difficult? Do you have to drill a hole in your BBQ? Also, can this thing smoke for extended periods like 5 hours? Thank you.
Answer: Yes, you have to drill a hole, unless there is already one in the appropriate location, and is of the right size. You may have to add to the wood chips (easily done) for an extended smoke period of 5 hrs.
Answer: You have to drill a hole in your grill and add pellets for a five hour smoke time.
Q:
i want to add this to a vertical electric smoker(smoke hollow)its smoker tray does not produce much smoke do you see any issues
Answer: No, I don't see any issue, mount the Smokemiester near the bottom, on either side, but not too low, or you will have an issue lighting the Smokemiester.
Answer: I took a look at the Smoke Hollow 30" Electric Smoker. The specs say it of a double walled welded construction. You may need to drill out the outside wall large enough so that they can insert the mounting nut through that wall and tighten the nut against the inside wall. This will also allow the pipe to rest against the outside wall for stability. I found a 11/2" Step Drill Bit a Harbor Freight pretty cheap that did the trick. Good Luck!
Answer: I think it would work great on anything. Only installation must is to make smoker penetration below heat source on a Smoker with any flame for a heat source, with a electric smoker it is non issue.
Answer: We attached it to a vertical gas smoker. We use it only As a cold smoker. When I talked with company they said it would well in conjunction with a grill as long as it was installed below the heat source.
Q:
I have a masterbuilt electric smoker. are there any special attachments i'll need to install this where the wood chips container would normally go?
Answer: I am not familiar with the cold smoker attachment box on your Masterbuilt, so since I have no experience on installations on the wood chip loader on your unit, I can't advise if the installation would work. The outlet tube of the Smokemiester is approximately 4 1/2 inches long and 1 inch diameter.
Answer: This is designed to be attached to the wall of the smoker. You simply use a 1 1/8th hole bit and drill thru the wall of your smoker where you want the smoke to enter in. No special attachments needed.
Answer: I drilled through the housing opposite and lower than the heating element. Smoker works much better when there is heat to draw the smoke. I think it would work going through the smoker box but you would need to remove the handle and drill through the tray.
Answer: Need approximately 1.250 inch round hole
Answer: We don’t know. Returned item as it was not what we wanted. Went with a Traeger instead. Sorry couldn’t be of more help.
Q:
Has anyone tried installing one on a pellet grill? If so, how did it work?
Answer: I only work on pellet grills for pre-smoking (before you start the fans and burner) and cold smoking. Smokemiester "The Smoker That Really Works"
Q:
I have an indoor smoker I am looking to replace the smoke generator on. Is this product suitable for indoor use?
Answer: Smokemiester BBQ Smoker CAN'T be used indoors
Answer: I would say no.
Q:
Are you shipping Model 1 (shown in pictures) or Model 2, the latest version?
Answer: We are shipping Model 2, I am going to be updating the photo soon.
Q:
I don't understand the concept. Do you still get heat from your grill PLUS add pellets to this smoker? What actually does the cooking?
Answer: Good question. The Smokemiester only puts out smoke. So you can cold smoke, smoke and grill/bake or a combination of doing both.
Answer: The heat from the grill will do the cooking. You want to cook at a really low temp so that your meat has a lot of exposure time to the smoke if you are smoking the meat. The smoke will add little to no heat to the grill. It works great. If its not for 'smoking' and you want it just to get some smoke flavor in your gas grill then its not necessary to cook at the low temps.
Answer: For the cooking process, you need the heat from your grill. The smoker adds the smoke needed for the smoking process. Yes, you add pellets to the smoker. There are many different kinds of pellets and chips to get the desired smoke taste you want. IE. Apple, mesquite, pecan. It is a great addition to our grill and get the smoke you want, with out have to have an additional large piece of equipment.
Answer: The Smokemiester is attached to your grill via a hole you drill into your kettle or propane barbecue. The grill does the cooking, and this attachment does the smoking.
Answer: The heat comes from your bbq. Just keep it on low. I love my smoke meister Check YouTube. You will find videos there
Answer: The grill does the cooking. The smoker only emits the smoke. A lot of smoke!
Answer: The grill does the cooking. The smoker only emits the smoke. A lot of smoke!
Q:
How does this work or smoke?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: You attach it to your grill. Load it up with wood chips or pellets of your choice.
Answer: Works/smokes great
Q:
What is the recommended range of volume of smoke chamber that this product would be used for?
Answer: The smallest BBQ that our smoker is attached to is a Q300, and largest unit that we know of, that has a Smokemiester attached to it is a customer in Norway's smokehouse, we don't know the dimensions, we also have a customer who attached it to a 300 gallon tank, he says he has plenty of smoke
Q:
Weber gas grill has a shelf on the side. Is there a 15" pipe extension so I can mount it to the side beyond the shelf or can I attach it to a pipe?
Answer: You can add a 15", 3/4" pipe extension, but you will need to add a bracket to support the Smokemiester. It will be a little more time consuming to install, and to keep the outlet tube clean, because this would be a custom install. There are videos showing different installation on Weber's.
Q:
i want to add this to a vertical electric smoker(smoke hollow)its smoker tray does not produce much smoke do you see any issues

Q:
Can the Smokemeister be fitted to and work with a Brinkmann 5 burner gas grill an if so where should it be mounted on the back of the grill?
Answer: It works best if you mount the smoker were you get the best draw so the smoker works best. it is usually the side but can be enhanced with a small fan in small burst periodically.
Q:
I what to cold smoke using a insulated vertical smoker it has a 2" ball valve for the air in take. Can this be attached to this valve?
Answer: Can you take a picture?
Q:
Does this make carbon monoxide in the smoke?
Answer: The carbon monoxide would be a byproduct of pretty much anything you use to smoke (i.e. wood pellets, chips, etc). In fact, your BBQ is already producing carbon monoxide whether or not you have a smoker attached, but so long as you are grilled outside there is effectively no danger of CO2 poisoning. If it helps, this product does not contribute any additional CO2 to the smoke that is being produces by any fuels used in the cooking and smoking process.
Answer: i have one of these smokers. i'm quite sure anything that makes smoke also contains carbon monoxide. that would also apply to charcoal or wood. i don't believe it's an issue due to it being in the form of a gas and being in an outdoor setting is released into the atmosphere as opposed to what you're cooking. i'm no scientist but i would certainly think the quanity of carbon monoxide released is very small to start with. i don't like to down people or their products but i've not had any luck with the one i purchased and i'll leave it at that.
Answer: Certainly. All combustibles produce carbon monoxide except for hydrogen.
Answer: Yes
Q:
without power how do you light the wood?
Answer: 1.The easiest way is to use a propane torch, 2. a little charcoal lighter fluid (1oz.) maximum works also but not that preferred, or 3. a few chips and a long bbq butane lighter. The fastest and easiest is the propane torch, lighting from the bottom with both lids open.
Answer: I used a charcoal chimney to light larger pieces of hickory and would add the smaller damp chips periodically.
Answer: Fire... via match or lighter
Answer: Use a torch.
Q:
This product is not offered on amazon.ca and amazon.com says this product will not ship to me in Canada. How can I get one in Canada?
Q:
Would this work by attaching to side of a grill, and above the burners/grill rack, like into a rotisserie opening? or grills other than Weber? I've notice that my grill sides look like their ceramic coated, not sure this would work.
Answer: Hi Peter, The Smokemeister works extremely well when mounted slightly below the cooking grate. There needs to be enough air flow through the grilling chamber along with a vent for it to effectively generate a significant amount of smoke. I have it mounted on a charcoal hot smoker and am impressed with its ability to truly cold smoke salmon etc. A gas grill as you describe might be more difficult to make an attachment. The smoke tends to rise depending on the ventilation so mounted above the grill rack would not produce a quantity of smoke compared to mounted below the rack. Ernest K
Answer: No, this smoke generator needs to be below the burners, or it can be used as a pre-smoker, or a cold smoker. Then it can be mounted on the side above the burner to smoke the meat first then grill it. I may get a second one to mount on the side just for that purpose...
Q:
What flavor of wood pellets are included with this item?
Answer: We include apple pellets with our smokers.
Q:
What kind of drill bit do you use to make the 1 1/4" hole?
Answer: Hole saw for drilling door knob holes in wood/metal doors comes in different sizes you can buy a 1 1/4 at lowes
Answer: 1 1/4inch hole saw
Answer: I could not find a way to install it on my grill so I had to return the Smokemeister for credit.
Q:
I'm new to smoking, so what is the advantage of this,if any,as compared to a smoking tube which is less exspensive?
Answer: The advantages of the smokemiester are that you can fill it at any time without getting burned, it smokes longer than a tube, and you can control the smoke output. In addition it takes no grill space, and once lit, and burning, it does not go out until it is out of fuel.
Answer: It all depends on what you are smoking. Most smoking is slow and low. If you do not mind babysitting the tube and be ready to re fill it every hour nothing.
Answer: I was new also when I bought this . And thought it was a cheaper way to try smoking. And I also bought the smoke tubes also. I liked the smokemeister better because I had little more control on the smoke.
Answer: Hey Ms. Lopez. I would need you to describe what type of smoker "tube" you are referring to in order for me to answer your question.
Q:
I have Masterbuilt Electric. How can you install via exterior chip tray?
Q:
I want to use this for cold smoking in the big green egg, will it work?
Answer: I am not familiar with the green egg and how it works but if you can get an airstream draw to pull the smoke in it should work. but this is designed to be bulk head style mounted through the cooking vessel.
Answer: Yes, Smokemiester works great on a big green egg, you just need an adapter, which I can provide.
Q:
How do u make it a hot smoker?
Answer: Install the Smokemiester on to your charcoal or gas BBQ and turn it on lowest setting to make it a hot smoker.
Answer: "It" is not the smoker per se. It only generates smoke and would be attached to a smoker of your chosing.
Answer: If not installing in a grille or a smoker you will need to add a heating element to your cabinet.
Q:
So what creates the smoke from the pellets? Is there an electric element to get the wood burning or does one put some lit briquettes in it or what?
Answer: Hello,
Answer: I used a lit charcoal bricket that seemed to get the pellets smoking
Answer: It must be lit. There are great videos about doing so on their website and on YouTube.
Answer: Go to this site and look under Installing. https://www.smokemiester.com/installing.html
Answer: You have to light them on fire. We use a propane torch.
Answer: If u need to ask this question you probably shouldn’t be buying this item.
Product reviews of Smokemiester BBQ Smokers convert a covered grill into a hot or cold pellet/wood BBQ Smoker, no power needed, takes no grill space, grill and/or smoke, all-in-one unit, 304 Stainless Steel / Black
Bob : Smokemiester- constant smoke over time while cooking, easy to use
I have smoked for 40 years and have always not liked the time it took to add more wood or today chunks or chips. This product is the answer. It works to give a controlled amount of smoke over a long period of time. I just purchased a custom built smoker that is natural gas driven and have been using a smoke box next to the flame for smoke. The problem was that I had to be there to add chunks every 1.5 hours. I am able to control my heat with no or very little variation but the demands of adding wood was too time consuming - enter the smokemiester. The first question out of box was where to mount. Instructions say below the flame, so that is where I mounted mine. I had a small adapter built to go below the air vent under the flame that would not effect my air control for the smoker (picture attached). I used stainless steel clamps to mount the unit. It works great and does not effect my air control on smoker. Like anything else the smokemiester takes getting use to in how to set the slide that controls incoming air and speed of burn, but easy to figure out. Also, it will need to be cleaned just like your smoker. I have found that most meat takes in smoke for the first three hours and when I have a full load of meat on I add additional chunks for first 1.5 hours with the smokemiester taking total control after that. For chicken and turkeys (my family favorite) too much smoke can be a problem, so I use only the smokemiester for 6 hours - just right and I don’t have to baby sit. It does what it is promoted to do and you pay for a good idea and quality product. I may add that when I first took unit out of box that I had a problem with small slant to pipe that carried smoke away. This slant is for a reason and has creosote drain back into unit. The owner Ken and his family responded immediately to my questions by email - great customer service.
Amazon Customer : Four Stars
Good
walter : Does a fine job
I purchased this about 2 months ago , after a learning curve, depending upon using pellets or chips it work very well
kenton otos : This thing is awesome
I used the smokemiester to generate smoke for a homemade smoker I just built. I wanted the option to set the temp and walk away. that I accomplished by wiring a thermostat controller to regulate temperature. But I still needed something to generate smoke without having to pull the pan and add chips every hour and in doing so let all the heat out in the process that takes a while to build in the first place. This thing WORKS!! Tons of smoke.. The smoker I built is very air tight other than the vents so it barely uses any pellets at all when dampened way down. it's been smoking for 1.5 hours now on the first cup of pellets that I put in it! And that was my first time using it and getting it dialed in. This is a simple awesome product and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. If your looking for a hassle free smoke generator that will smoke for multiple hours without adding fuel this is what you want. The owner Ken was happy to answer any questions I had and was very helpful. Shipping was fast and well packaged.
Kevin M Citizen : I was very happy on how it performed in my new propane smoker ...
Purchased this product from seller. I was very happy on how it performed in my new propane smoker it produces great amount of smoke for hours. I used the product twice and after the second time the lid had came off. Most likely because it was a bad weld. I contacted the seller through email and the seller responded the same day apologizing for the defective unit and offered to replace it for whatever chose I wanted also allowing me to keep the defective unit still. The new unit arrived quickly. Now this is what I call true customer service. Thank you very much!!!
Sincronicity : This is just a price review here, too. ...
This is just a price review here, too. Not more than an hour ago, I found an empty 16oz beer can alongside the road and made my own for the price of three screws I already had in my basement. Sorry, but I'm a cheap retired guy and I find the price is a lot too much for what it is.
Kevin : We smokin now
Installed this on an old Weber gas grill and turned it into a fantastic smoker. Works beautifully.
Sasha Clark : Works amazing!
This little smoker is AWESOME!! It is totally worth the money and works so much better than expected!!
Riv2359 : This saved me $1,000 by NOT buying a separate pellet smoker!!
I was ready to spend around $1,000 on a pellet smoker when I saw the Smokemiester on Amazon. I read the great reviews with some skepticism, but I decided to try it. I bought the extended version for $169 that states it will provide smoke for 24 hours! I have a Masterbuilt electric smoker, and it works great...with one exception: overnight smoking. I've smoked briskets overnight in it, and they come out great, but not smoky enough because I did not add wood overnight. I bought the Smokemiester to fix this problem. I was able to install it in under 5 minutes, and all I needed was a hole saw bit and a wrench. I smoked two chickens and two pork loins with it the first night, and they came out FANTASTIC!! The Smokemiester put out more smoke than I ever had with the chip pan that originally came with the smoker. I used pellets, but it states that you can use chips or chunks also. It really is as easy as the other reviews say, and it really works as well as they claim. Cleaning up was a breeze. I can't say enough good things about this unit. I'm sure that it works great with a regular grill, but with an electric smoker, it's really "set it and forget it".
Jason : Franken-Smoker is now a Super-Franken-Smoker!!!
Short story, it’s simple, it works. Very well. Longer version: I love my franken-Masterbuilt smoker (rednecked double stacked awesomeness) however getting any usable smoke from this thing is an exercise in futility. That said I sprung for the Smokemiester! All of the instructions exclaim “MUST be installed ABOVE flame”. As most stack smoker owners are aware, this isn’t possible most of the time. Just the way they’re made. I installed this as low as possible in the fire box (front left lower corner) and regardless of how low I set the temp, the column of heat pulls the smoke in! IT WORKS!! 3-5hrs of SOLID SMOKE!!!! Add more pellets and keep going!!! I love this thing!
Tolerable pain points: there are no fancy bells and whistles here and quite frankly, you won’t/don’t need them. Pellet residue will cake up the sleeve and gum up the lid making it difficult to open after use. Some warm water applied when cool will help free everything up and a quick wire brushing will get you prepped for your next run. The ash pan only swings out so you can’t just dump the ash, you have to sweep, blow or vacuum it out. Again, all tolerable for the level of output. Love it!!!
2 years later: still up and running. This thing, when maintained, just won’t quit. Still love it!!!

This is just a price review here, too. Not more than an hour ago, I found an empty 16oz beer can alongside the road and made my own for the price of three screws I already had in my basement. Sorry, but I'm a cheap retired guy and I find the price is a lot too much for what it is.
Pasha : Does what it should...
Solid product, good seller communication.
dreamin47 : Very easy to install so simple to work
I wish I would have found this years ago. Their photo is not fake this is exactly how mine works. Very easy to install so simple to work. I was amazed. Thanks Smokemiester for a wonder product, I will be buying another for my second grill.
John : I could have paid to have something like this fabricated for way less
haven't used it yet, but it is well made. Paid way too much for what it is. Never again will I pay that much. I could have paid to have something like this fabricated for way less.
Ben Boeker : Produces a lot of smoke
Put this on a 40x40x72 smoke house and it works good.
Deborah : This by far is the most reliable cold smoker available .
I was amazed the amount of smoke this puts out for the size .it smoked for 3 hours with one full of pellets on my wine barrel smoker .So far I have smoked cheese, salmon and pork belly and it all turned out perfect . I do 3 hours on the cheese and 6 hours on the salmon and then put it in the oven @ 250 for an hour depending on the size of salmon steaks you use.
James Hubbard : Excellent smoke on a gas grill
Devise is well made and makes smoked meats easy and tasty on a gas grill. I have a conventional “bullet” smoker that I use for the big stuff like brisket but the Smokemiester gives excellent results on smaller quantities of chicken, pork, and beef with comparable results on a gas grill. Setup and clean up is much easier than on a conventional lump charcoal smoker. I like my Smokemiester so well I got one for each of my sons.
Harvey S. Cohen : Tons of smoke, and very easy to use
Tons of smoke, and very easy to use. I mentioned in my original review that it seemed to be rusting too much. The manufacturer noticed my review and contacted me. The unit I received had a bad powder-coating, so they shipped me a new one. The new one is fine, so I've added a fifth star. I've tried all kinds of smoke-generating devices and seasonings over the years. This is the one that really works. I love it.
Craig konrady : Cold smoke made easy
For those that understand cold smoking this will make a great addition to making great foods
Ricky : Stop wondering and just order it! It's awesome!!
Truth be told I should have written this review a while ago. But the good news is I'm writing it after owning a smokemeister for about a year, so it will certainly be a fuller review.
First of all, I absolutely love this thing. The install was a piece of cake and with a little trial and error, it's become my go-to way of preparing dinner.
Let me tell you how I got here. I have friends that own expensive pellet barbecues. I have a Weber grill that I love and no desire to have a second barbecue, let alone one that I have to plug in. So I went looking for a solution and found the Smokemeister. Right away I was impressed because I had a question about install and called the phone number on the website. Ken the inventor answered the phone!! Sorry, but it's 2017 and that type of one-on-one customer service is long gone. But, not when you buy a Smokemeister. He was a huge help and my love for this thing began right then and there.
Now here's some stuff you need to know from me using it for about a year: When you first light the pellets, you really need to be patient and let that burn get all the way through. Don't rush this step because you're hungry. You'll end up extinguishing your flame too early and lose your smoke. I like to use gel starter fluid. I light it and let it burn for 3 to 4 minutes and then use a steel BBQ skewer to stir the pellets, mixing the fluid all the way through. Then I let it burn another 10 minutes and I'm good to go.
Then once I close both doors and extinguish the flame I open the bottom one about halfway, maybe a little more. That gives me a perfect smoke. But word to the wise: my bbq sometimes gets a little cross breeze. If that's the case for you, you'll need to adjust that bottom door accordingly or you'll burn through your pellets much faster than normal.
Lastly, about every 4 - 5 times I smoke, I use that same steel rod to clean the smoke tube between the box and my BBQ. You can get a fair amount of crusty ash build up in there sometimes and before you know it, you got smoke leaking from everywhere except where it's supposed to be because that tube is blocked. When it happened to me, I just took the box off and cleaned it with soap and water and a steel brush. But it was one heck of a mess and a hassle that you can avoid with a little proactive maintenance.
That's about it. This thing is awesome and I highly recommend it. Last tip: I actually prefer Costco bbq pellets over Traeger. They smoke better and hey, they're cheaper. But, I can't recommend the Smokemeister enough. Just recently, I cold smoked plain burger patties for 90 minutes before grilling them and my guests raved about their burgers. This thing is legit. When the time comes to replace my beloved Weber I will only do it with a BBQ that will allow me to install the Smokemeister!
JOSEPH H. : Five Stars
AAA+++ it makes serious smoke.
Kevin : We smokin now
Installed this on an old Weber gas grill and turned it into a fantastic smoker. Works beautifully.
Titohov : Smokin'
Installed the Smokemiester on my 8 year old Weber Genesis. Only took a few minutes to get it installed.
So far very happy with this smoker. I previously used smoker boxes that I would position over one of the burners of my grill. This was a huge pain in the butt as I'd constantly have to babysit the thing. It would take forever to smoke (if at all) and then would run out of chips. The smokemiester solves these issues. I like how the unit is mounted to the outside of the grill so I don't constantly have to open up the lid to fiddle with the smoker.
Filling the unit up with pellets will last long enough to smoke ribs for 4-6 hours. When you start it up you light all of the pellets on fire and let it flame for 4-5 minutes. Then you shut the lids to extinguish the flames and then open the bottom lid to allow a little airflow. After it's going, you really don't have to do anything to it - pretty easy.
One observation - this thing smokes like a mutha when slow cooking ribs around 200-225 degrees. But if I'm cooking something hotter, like over 300 degrees, for whatever reason the smoke has hard time drawing into the grill chamber. They tell you to mount the sucker under your flames which I think is supposed to help draw the smoke up into the grill. I'm not sure what it is about cooking hot, but only a little smoke goes in. Maybe I could try to drill more holes and position it elsewhere to see if it would help, but I'm not sure how many holes I want to put into my grill. I usually use this for low and slow cookin anyway so no big whoop.
I give this thing 5 stars for what it can do. It really adds a whole another dimension to your gas grill. Minus two stars for the price though. WTF? $120 for this, really? This should cost half that. I'll add a star back for the name Smokemiester. To be honest, I just like saying it. The wife teases me now - "gonna fire up the miester are ya??" So I'll give this four stars.
Dav5555 : Not for use on a pellet grill/smoker
I bought this to enhance the smoking capability and flavor of my pellet grill. Based on the description I expected similar effectiveness as the powered smoker add-ons but this was lacking due to the way pellet grills/smokers work. Pellet grills have fans that provide continuous airflow to the burn pot and thus maintain a positive pressure inside the smoker. Because of this the smoke from this unit is blown out of the bottom of the unit and doesn't even enter the smoker and is useless for the purpose intended. It will work moderately well as a cold smoker add-on but does not provide comparable performance and function to the add-ons that have the air pump or other means to force the smoke into the smoker. Otherwise, the unit is solid and well constructed and should last if used in the right application such as addition to a gas or charcoal fueled grill. I found the 1 1/8" whole to be a bit oversized - perhaps it was larger than intended due to the whole saw cut having some wandering when cutting.
Brett Bernier : Excellent product. SmokeMeister smoke pot made in the good ...
Excellent product. SmokeMeister smoke pot made in the good 'ol USA. It uses food grade hardwood pellets and will smoke for 8 hours on 2 cups of pellets. I made the smoker myself out of solid sugar pine using a 3" rubber boot flashing for the roof. Hardware is recycled from 2 old ammo crates. Purchased the stainless racks from Amazon.ca as well. Now all I need to do is go fishing!
joseph : The Smokemiester will help me be the Smokemaster:)
Installed this on my Weber Spirit (middle/back just below burner). Cooked a 6lb pork butt for pulled at 225 degrees for 7.5 hours, applied smoke for about 6 hours. I used a total 2 cups of hickory pellets mixed with some apple wood. This little smoker pumped in just the right amount of steady smoke for this duration with the meat having the perfect amount of smoke flavor and it melted in my mouth. I have read that too much smoke can make your meat bitter tasting but definitely not the case here. Next on the list is Baby Back Ribs. Great product!!
walter : Does a fine job
I purchased this about 2 months ago , after a learning curve, depending upon using pellets or chips it work very well
Jamieson : 1 year and still smoking
I've had my Smokemiester smoke generator for over a year now and it is still a mean smokin' machine. I had stopped barbecuing for a while before I picked the Smokemiester up and I got it to reinvigorate my grilling, and I can definitely say now that it has completely rejuvenated my menu! I have the smoker hooked up to my Weber Q 120 (the folks at Smokemiester were helpful when I contacted them about how to attach to an unusual unit like the Q) and now I use it at least twice a week, Wednesday nights and a weekend afternoon usually. A handful of pellets lasts the whole cooking time and produces a nice, pleasant smoke. Initially I just made burgers and steaks, but I've been moving towards a healthier diet with chicken and fish recently and they still taste great after a good smoking (who knew healthy could still be good, right?) The unit is easy to clean, too; it is as simple as the standard operation, just light some pellets and then brush it out once they are burned. I highly suggest you pick one up and give it a try! You'll be as happy with it as I am.
Todd Akin : Works great.
Works great! Easy to install.
